You see, I was born in 1993, but I look like I'm born in 1996. Everywhere I go, I'm treated as an 18 year old, but deep down inside I feel like a 15 year old. I am discriminated everywhere I go. I am not allowed to play for my U-17 soccer team even though everyone is bigger than me!
In the USA, people can change their sex when they feel like they were born the wrong gender. Well I feel like I was born 3 years too early! I am depressed and am very sad...
I really love to see grounded, homosexual people who can express themselves, their points of view and feelings from past experiences the way you do, it really opens people's eyes to a reality that's just as obvious as any other, showing that we're all equals and there needs to be no judging of anybody for their sexuality. My respects.
hopefully people know Dr. Phil is so very close minded. but at least you got the mom who straight up called out the bull-shit belief/theory that a child's gender identity is something his/her parents can change or even influence. her personal story proved that no matter how badly she wanted her son to be a boy, she simply couldn't change his identity.
hi, im bi-sexual, but i have a friend who is currently about half way through the male to female treatment, i support it entirely, i myself would not do so, but i do support it, and i am glad you and my friend are not afraid to be proud of what you chose to be, i salute you, and some parents are very thick headed in their beliefs like yours were, but its happy to know there are a lot of parents out there who support this type of thing, many dont like the idea but they support it, youre awesome
I think it is absolutely disgusting that such a thing should be allowed to spread to parents through the media; to me, it's about as wrong as trying to tell parents that you should try to force your child to be straight. I bet Dr. Phil wouldn't have a special on THAT, in this day and age! At least I hope not. It does go to show that gay rights have come much farther than transgender rights. Oh my god! Spell check doesn't even RECOGNIZE the word "transgender".
I am surprised at how this video can get parents grown adults furiously typing on their keyboards words of hate. I adore this video and agree with everything you said. It's unfortunate youtube is just one giant warzone in the comments section. Being a transgender child is extremely hard My parent's tried to make me boyish too but here I am years later on my own and nothing has changed.
I watched the Dr. phil show. The woman with the trans son made the whole transgender community look bad when she was telling her story which a lot of people are shocked by and expecting everybody to be open minded, at the same time she wouldn’t open her mind to anything the Dr. had to say . She also made gays and lesbians look bad when she snickered, smirked and said “wow”.
Thanks for this vid i think it's so good and brave you did this and being open to people to talk about something so delicate and knowing people are brutal with the issues that gender identity has ( i find it so caveman-ish to treat peoples feelings about themselves as broken bones that can be fixed by forcing it into the "correct" position).I am ignorant about this topic, but i want to know if transgender children from the moment they are conscious about everything, they kno the gender they are?
@Phish78: Who are you to decide who makes whos parents ashamed. Perhaps you shoul leave and crawl back under a rock where people don't have to deal with you.
My sisters son is 5 now & since he was three he has wanted dresses & to be a fairy for halloween. He has even said "I no boy I a girl" My sister & I have talked about it & she and her husband have talked about it, if he is still leaning in that direction they are going to get a therapist & help him transition if it's what he wants to. I don't believe that gender exists, I believe we're people & should be ourselves without letting society interfere but i am very my sister doing whats best for him
I just saw your very candid video, and I to say thank you. It takes a lot of guts to put your face out there and say, look people, this is what's really going on. Rather than perpetuate prejudice, please just ask me about it. I hope your brand of guts is contagious. Because this detail shouldn't matter but does, I want to tell people reading that I am NOT transgendered, nor do I have transgendered friends or colleagues (as it happens). I just happen to believe that all humans are equally human.
First of It´s amazing that you diden´t yell at the end of the respond.
I myself have created my channel for that purpose that i WANTED to support TG/TS.
I almost lost my breath when the guys on right side were talking cos it was chocking what they were saying.
Now after a year of watching videos about TG I have changed my opinion on were the gender is "placed".So that I today thinks that the gender is between the ears and not between the legs.
I liked your video, and I think parents should hear the things you are saying. I did want to comment that, I saw the Dr. Phil episode you are talking about, and I don't think Dr. Phil was areeing with Dr. Nicolosi --the idiot who is behind the "ex-gay" travesty, and was the person saying the things you quote in your video. God bless you. Keep up the good work.
I'm sorry.I meant to write that I am NOT at all confused about what gender dysphoria.I typed too fast.I understand it and you cannot make it go away other than changing your sex to what you were meant to be in the first place. Now I dont disrespect Dr.Phil but I dont value his opinion as much anymore after learning his veiw on ths issue.I really thought he was going to see it the way that it truly is.
I'm confused at all about gender dyshoria. If my female body did;nt already match my female brain,I'd change it to match.I was suprised that Dr.Phil did'nt understand this. How would he feel if he were born into a female body when he has a male brain. Our true gender is in the inside.Male and female brains and chromosomes are not the same.
Dr phil is better than you he helps people eeewwwwwww OMG you transgender weirdo god made you as a boy not a girl you weirdo everyone who is homosexual and transgender have a mental issue
Is that the show that the Dr claimed the kid was spending too much time with the mom and not enough time with the dad? I found him to be silly. My Dad was not there much for me till I was an adult, and my Step dad didn't seem approachable. I am a big mama's boy but I love being a man. We are who we feel we are and must be. I loved how the mom got in his face about it.
i agree completely. the doctors on that show are hacks and clearly don't understand that this is just how people are. all the "bonding" and whatever in the world isn't going to change it.
i completely agree!!! i grew up in a very strict house hold. my father taught me from birth to be a perfect soldier but no matter how hard i tryd i couldnt ever get rid of the fealing that i was living in the wrong bodie. its not a illnes to be trans. Its a gift! i have finaly come to terms with being a transsexual and i have made the choice to transition. I actualy go into tomorow to the doctor to see about starting hrt. im so excited!
Being transgendered i know how difficult it can be to find cute affortable clothes.
Especially new girls like myself it can be really intimidating going into a girly store and want to get clothes. I wanted to let you know I sell most items from the WET SEAL website @ 25%OFF the list price. Just let me know what you need and i'll get it for you :) ! Ebay = myqmonkey1 or just msg me on here let me know if I can help.
Dr. Phil is a stupid ass who got lucky when he got a fucking T.V. show. That goes to show everyone that noone needs a smart mind to make money.I'll support you no matter what.GOD LOVES YOU! He wants you to fellowship with him. That beloved verse, John 3:16 states: that God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. The key word in the verse is 'whoever'.God loves trans people, too.
Right, sure, because all parents are morons who are desperately clinging to over the top stupid TV shows rather than deeply loving their children for who they are. Really, until you are a parent, don't assume what it is like to be a parent, or that parents are going to take their cues from TV land. That show tried to present two diametrically opposed sides to a multidimensional issue, and it didn't work, don't use it to put down the intelligence of parents.
I think you're completely misreading what I am saying here. I certainly never meant to attack the intelligence of parents, but people like Dr. Phil do have a surprisingly large following. I simply expressed displeasure with they way this was handled on his show... I certainly never said anything belittling all parents.
As someone who is actively planning on having children in the near future that would just be silly.
@infpdarling You would be surprised at the information parents cling to in a crisis. Your whole world is put upside down and you grab for ANY information to stabilize yourself, even if it means the world makes sense to you for only minutes. So yes, people cling to anything, including celebrity tv therapist.
That dr. Phil show was a bullshit. I felt sorry for the mother, who had to listen to this bullshit about how being too close to a son makes him want to be a girl. This so called doctor is so wrong.
Dr Phil is a moron and is only licensed to practice in one state. People naively presume that b/c a person has Dr tagged to the front of their name that they're informed/educated. Phil merely has a PhD which has nothing at all to do with medical school. He's not even psychiatrist. He a psychologist which means that he can only offer talk based therapies. He can't prescribe meds, diagnose diseases, etc. Unfortunately many people don't even realize the difference between a Phd and a MD
I have watched many Dr Phil shows and found him very supportive on Prop 8 .. and pro gay
marriage.. this show is very disappointing and I hope he knows better .. He should have taken over and not let it turn into this circus . I know we are Born the way we are .." If God had wanted me otherwise He would have created me Otherwise .. I am gay and know Your Life is much much more difficult than mine. I applaud Your courage and wish You all the Best in Life .. You are a Child of God Love
Obviously it works better when a girl wants to become a guy. Whenever a guy wants to become a girl it just strikes me as creepy because they never look right.
I agree with you on the bullsh*tery of that Dr. Phil episode.
I have a great relationship with both my dad and my mom, and I don't believe at all that if they would've made me wear a dress to school I would be any less of a guy.
I got VERY lucky. My parents never cared that their little girl acted more like a little boy, that s/he wore her brother's clothes or wanted to play sports. They don't know that I'm genderqueer, though I doubt that it would be much of a shock.
TransKids Purple Rainbow Foundation was started by the parents of Jazz, the little trans girl. They wanted parents of trans kids to know they are not alone and if you love your kids there are places to go for support and information. Thank you for another great Vlog :)
Hey, just wanted to say thanks for doing this, since a lot of the responses have been a bit less positive, I think you have a lot worth saying and I'm glad you do. The T isn't silent. :)
For all that the doctors were idiots on the show, I was pretty impressed by the mother and her dedication to her daughter, which is what will count in the long run.
Erin I am continually impressed by you and your frankness and givingness, and your devotion to being yourself.
For people who have commented below me: yes there is discrimination out there. But what is worse discrimination than being invalidated by your own family?

hi, I have a question for you. You said that since you were a kid you always wanted to be a girl, right? How does it make you feel to know that you are not a girl? that you will never be one. The closest thing you can be to a girl is a tran. Your dream of being a woman is never going to happen. So with that said, isn't that like living a lie? So when kids tell their parents that they want to be a girl, shouldn't the right answer be you are never going to be a girl!
I have a nasty habit of responding to trolls... so here I go.
First off, ya, there will always be certain things that I can't do. I can't have a baby, and that does make me very sad. That being said, I can still be a mom... whether that is via adoption or my partner giving birth to our child. And while it may not be everything I want, it's pretty close.
That's all I can hope for. Ya, I'll never change that I was born in the wrong gender, but I can get pretty damn close to fixing that.
I dont understand, You were born in the body of aboy, but with the mind of a lesbian woman? lol i dont mean to be offensive but are you a gay woman or what?
Its simple....lets spell this out. She was born into a boy's body but her mind, the way she thinks, processes things in her mind, the way she reacts and acts. Its all feminine. Its how her mind is wired. Its wired from the wrong body! But, there is still the attractiveness to women. No one questions a genetic woman who is lesbian beyond her being gay. Which as every day passes its more commonly accepted...

I have a question for you, how the fuck do you think that would make a person feel? Like the life isn't worth living, that every fucking moment is agony and that you wish some how you could solve this problem but you know you never can. Yes, that's how you feel, so I hope you are satified, you fucking ignorant cunt!
Actually, that wasn't a question... it was a broad, over generalized statement that all transwomen look weird.
Honestly though, if you saw me, or many of the transwomen who I know, walking on the street you would have no idea. I've had friends for over a year who have no idea.
Secondly, it's surgically easier for a guy to become a girl... easier to dig a hole than build a pole to be crude. But it is socially easier for a girl to be a guy.
@jrodt9 no beacuse i was born with a penis now i have a vagina i look all woman, a beautiful woman, i have a fully functioning orgasmci vagina and men go gaga for me and i have sex with them and they dont have a clue. i would consider that a sucess, so yes you can be a girl, or a boy. :> lol. hater!
@talleyho12 as long as i cant tell, why would i mind. if he told me after he usto be a she i would say, to me your a guy and i would date him if he was hot and looked all man!
@stefanybody well what if a women only dressing like a man had oral sex with you or something. if you say that you wouldnt care to this question then that means you really dont care which sex you have sex with. then you would be part straight . HAHAA
@talleyho12 if it looks like a guy it would make me straight as im a woman with a vagina moron. but when i found out he had a vagina and i would still be into it then i would be lesbain gay, but if he has a vagina i wouldnt be into it. i like penis. but i wouldnt mind had i not known he had a vagina. but wen i find out about the vagina thats when im no longer intrestesd, but if he had a dick then i would be okay with it. not everyone is trans phobic like yourself dum dum , ha ha ha
@stefanybody im not trans phobic, i just caught you on a technicality that you dont like the taste of. you said you had sex with guys and they dont even know you were a guy. So basicly you cheated them against their will .and you wouldnt like it if you were cheated like that so that makes you a liar and a hypocrite. ZIIINNNGG!
@talleyho12 its obvious your transphobic u sound angry lol. i never said that i wouldnt like it if a guy that has a vagina did not tell me, go back and read it dum dum, what isaid was once i saw the vagina i would no longer be intrested, but when guys see my vagina thats what there lookin for so they are still intrested. they hit on me and they wanna have sex wit me when im naked so theres no cheating them against anything. i dont need to share my past with anyone. im sure u dont share your past
@talleyho12 yes theres some guys that would not be intrested if they knew my past but the guys that i have told dont seem to care once they see boobs and pussy they almost always wanna fuck. its just sex anyways sowho the hell cares. im sure they dont tell me everything bout their past, so why the hell should i. men lie like dogs about being single wen they really have a gf or wife they lie like dogs so i dont feel bad t all. it actually feels good. its feels like revenge lol. haha
@talleyho12 oh goddd, go suck on your moms tit. u pussy lol. and there not fucked up guys for not caring. so fuck you too. why is someones past such a big deal to you. do u live in the past? im guessing so
@talleyho12 your shitty hateful attitude is the reason girls like me do not reveal ourselves to u in public! its obvious your a hater, try and convince me that im a guy cuz i dont have a uterus. bottom line i can get guys so im sucessful at my game and i get theri money too. i work at a stripclub and i have more customers than any other bitch, and i had uterus surgery for ur info. im sure ur mom cant use her uterus ur point is dum, i guess ur mom is a man now since her uterus is out of order lol
@talleyho12 wat argument did i lose? the argument u were having with yourself? lmao. i told u how it is. so u take it however u want, wat do i care wat a punk wit no money like u think. go find another trans girl to harass loser! u think ur gonna change us? hahah. fuktard
@talleyho12 the one that came in here cyber bullying the trans girl on here was your pahetic ass. i was defending her! your one of those shit talking internet cowards, lets see u say that in person. i would kicj your teeth in and cut your throat open and bite your fingers off,
@talleyho12 its so easy for u to come on here and talk shit about trans girls if u dont like them dont watch their videos u fuckin idiot. wat a weirdo.
i saw this edition myself in australia and i was so disgusted with that dickhead dr phil. he dosnt know what the fuck he's doing. he's a numb nuts acting like he's a doctor. it totally got out of hand. good on the mother for sticking it up that converts ass.
You're very beautiful, and very cool as well. Also do you wear silver earings? Because you look like silver earings (looping ones) would go very well with your look.
I stopped even listening to Dr. Phil after I saw the portrayal of tourette's on his show. It kind of showed that Dr. Phil is a show that portrays people with disabilities or gender identity issues as mutant freaks!
God, that must have SUCKED not having your body match your heart and mind. Especially coming from a religious background and having the courage to leave and do what you needed to do (transition) to lead a more fulfilling life..wow. Amazing. Kudos, chica!
i know it's hard and i also know it tis real. but i think it is what it is a disorder. i dont think our 'science' can tell us what causes it but Im sure will know one day. i m sure hormones have a huge role in this but there is more.
I agree with you on the parents getting the wrong idea w/ watching dr. phil show.
But, THANKFULLY there is youtube! Where parents, friends, and family members who know transgender people can go and watch REAL, unedited videos! This way they can hear all sides, no just Dr. Phil's (which I believe is based on what's best for his ratings!).
I just want to say thank you for putting yourself & your life out there for others to learn from.
What I don't understand is why transgender gets tied up with homosexuality. Homosexuality is about who you're attracted to. Transgender is about who you ARE. And those to me seem to be two distinct things. To always be linking them the way they so often are linked makes no more sense to me than, say, assuming that if you're tall you enjoy basketball.
Not rlly if you have a gender disorder than you see yourself as a woman, most woman see men attractive, 80% of transgender people or people with gender disorders are attracted to the same sex, If you have a gender identity disorder and are still attracted to the opposite sex of what you are born then you are technically a gay or lesbian transgender, because remember gender is not about whats down there its about whats in your head.
well a major step many transgenders take in realizing said transgenderism, is the realization that they are attracted to their "birth" sex, which, at the time, is recognized as their own, and so, it is seen as homosexual.
You have no idea how large discussions on this topic can get in groups of people who are openly attracted to pre-op MTFs. the "am i gay?" question comes up every 2 hours. at least.
Probably the last thing anyone really wants to read right now, but I'm a psych student and I chose GID as a topic for a paper to write. If anyone would like to give me some thoughts of their own on this, whether youve gone through it yourself, or just know someone... it would be greatly appreicated. I want to write the it from all angles. =)
too many people don't get what it means to be transgender. No matter how many times you try to explain, they think they do but they really DON'T get it.
I've spent so much time wondering why they don't get it but it's so time-consuming and pointless I give up on them. Fortunately there's a lot of transgender-friendly people who do
I never liked Dr. Phil, even when he first appeared on Oprah. He pretends not to force Western societal norms down throats, yet when someone comes on the show who clearly goes against them or his own personal moral standards, "how's that workin' for ya'll" is asked.
Why can't people just be who they are going to be and everyone else just open their minds and hearts for a wee second??
I am 65 and still transgendered from age 3-5 and 7-12 , really everyone (particularly-kids) can tell who you are when you are little -it has been a great journey - I still hide - and appear as male (when I am in fact - female). Maybe in heaven or the afterlife everything will be made straight, because (unfortunately body change by plastic surgery is still really crude)
my overall thoughts with transgenderism is still neutral in the end since it is such a controversial issue, but I believe in something called spectrums. I mean after all, I personally know some ex-trans ppl who actually (yes for real) got over their trasgenderism and accepted the body they were born as..without being miserable.
Do you really know how they feel? Sometimes the "acceptance" is just the person giving up on what they really want because their friends and family dont support them. and there is a difference between gender confusion and gender identity disorder.
Those that aren't discriminating, but only wish for their transgendered family member/or friend to try to accept the body they were born as. It is a living nightmare for both since both ppl care about each other but it is still a tragedy when someone rejects the healthy body they were given, especially when there is nothing physically wrong with it. Even more fearful knowing that your trans friend will still never become the opposite gender, and will have to endure hatred from society in general
hatred from society seems like something that society should change, not the other way around. the transperson should not have to hide to avoid violence...violence just shouldnt happen.
people can be so ignorant and supid in this america place
um who said anything about hiding? I don't think anyone should hide who they are, but that doesn't excuse the fact that their families will still worry about their trans kid who will endure hardship, discrimination from all sides of the spectrum. While parents should love their kids regardless of whether or not they are trans, violence isn't going to go away. That is reality.
I don't believe wanting to be the opposite gender is something to be ashamed about by any means, but I also don't agree that everyone should give in to the direct needs/wants of transgendered ppl. That isn't to say I am discriminating them by any means, but just like ppl who aren't trans should put themselves in the shoes of trans ppl, I think trans ppl should also try to put themselves in the other ppls shoes.
I would have to say that you have done well to make this video, because it promotes the fact that transgendered ppl should not be so hated upon. However, I'd have to say I don't completely agree with it all. I don't mean to offend you but, the statistics still remain that less than 20 percent of trans kids remain as trans adults. That is a shocking percentage, and while it is more so the issue for the individual, it is hard to ignore the generality.
Erin! This is an awesome video... so glad you made this video, which I think really speaks to the trans experience growing up. Of course it is different for everyone, but the whole having to fit in the box thing is spot on. It is a shame that many folks only experience the transsexual world through the media. Education, education, education! Thanks for making these great videos
i just saw that episode of dr. phil ( doctor me arse!), im so pissed. i was brought up to feel so ashamed of feeling feminine (boys dont do that! exactly im not a boy!) everything erin says here is so spot on. other people and there stupid beliefs make life so hard for people who already have enough shit to deal with!
Actually, he has a Ph.D in clinical psychology from the University of North Texas (1979). HOWEVER, he is not currently licensed to practice because an ethics board ruled against him in 1989. He has never completed the conditions imposed by the board, nor re-applied for license renewal. So he is not a practicing psychologist...he is listed as an entertainer/tv host and claims his advice is for entertainment purposes. Clearly, he draws upon his PhD, but should get a license again for credibility.
Good for you for speaking out. Trangenderism is often a hard experience for the non-transgendered to grasp - both due to prejudice and simple lack of familiarity. The more transgendered people who share their stories and points of view as you have, the more hope there is for the general public to see us as having a human face - and the more hope also for those struggling with their TG identity to find a road to expressing it.
Dr. Phil's "experts" were astoundingly misinformed. Oprah actually did a show on transkids a few years ago that was much better, even though I was in tears by the end of it.
I saw the Dr.P show, an the idea of giving a child more masculine roles and activities to identify with DO NOT WORK!! My father put me in Boy Scouts, Football, @ Basketball and all that happened to me was I got seriously beat up on the field and ended up having surgery over a sports injury at age 9 cuz I was slaughtered and HATED BEING OUT THERE!!! The shoulder pads were heavy, painful, @ I DID NOT like other boys running into me @ I cried an cried over it. I HATED FULL contact sports.
My question is "how can anyone be an expert on transgenderism if they are not trans themselves?" I'm with you on the Dr. Phil show; you can't force someone to be who they are not. Like you, I too was raised to think that my wanting to be a girl is wrong. My question to you is....how did you get the courage to go out in public dressed as a girl. I really need to get out there as a girl.
Sorry this is so long, but I also wanted to let you all know that MA is doing alot of great work for the GBLT community, and if you'd like to learn more, there is an online newspaper called Baywindows that has great coverage.
Hi, i'd like to say that as a transgender woman i totally agree with your statements, and i was also very upset with the opinions expressed on the Dr Phil show. The was another episode that he covered "Cop to Woman" and that was also very negative. I''m sorry for your difficulty growing up/coming out, and i share a similar experience. I am lucky enough to have a great support system now, and I hope that people won't let Dr Phil make up tier minds for them.
I am a M to F trans myself. I totally disagree with the opinions expressed on Dr. Phil. Trust me, the crap I heard on that show will never convince me that I am male. I would like to see these so-called experts live as a trans person.
grishno, i'm writing a paper on gender identity and how people can't function happily if everyone's telling them they have to act in a certain way, and i found a couple of websites saying just what dr phil did! you can't just force standards on people if that's not how they feel, and i'm glad you were able to overcome that..i'm wondering how that works though, why are some people born with a different gender in their mind than their body? why isn't everyone just born how they should be?

you're so right on! i saw these episodes on dr phil and i just couldn't watch the whole thing because i was just getting so mad and frustrated. ugh..it was horrible. like u say, the sad thing about this is that some parents of trans children will watch this and get the wrong idea and totally fuck up their kids life.
Dr. Phil is garbage. If a feeling is truly inside, you can do whatever to try and change it, but you will just end up in the same spot eventually. I have tried to beat down my "girl" issues all the time but I never win. They still rise back up no matter what. The only strange part about it for me is that I didn't always feel this way, but now the feeling are here stay. They aren't just going to leave. There are skater girls and girls who like and play metal, so that means nothing.
I am assuming that you are a M to F trans yourself. I am as well. I too have tried to suppress the girl in me since I was 14 years old and you are correct in saying that it doesn't work. We are who we are and the world needs to realize that.
I can answer this one. I am Transgendered. I was born as a boy and have wanted to be a girl almost all of my life. A Transvestite is what's more commonly known as a Cross Dresser.
Dr.Phil makes sense sometimes, but other times he's such a dumbass. An education doesn't give you a heart understanding! I didn't see the show but you're right about parents getting the wrong idea, who wants their kid feeling suicidal?...honestly
I totally agree with you. I was very close to my mother when I was younger (and still am) and I'm a ftm tranny. There was some pressure for me to act more like a girl. This made me really good at faking the opposite gender as well.
The Dr. Phil video made me really angry, however I was really pleased with the mothers reaction.
This is a very good video , I wish we could grow up being ourselves with out people telling us we´ll g going to hell , I had a total nervous colapse because of that when I was a teenager .
Believe it or not, my dad's girlfriend (in attempt to make my dad feel better [or so she thought]) decided to call Dr. Phil about me being trans myself...shortly after I came out. I guess she figured Dr. Phil was a good person to either 1) fix me [excuse me, i dont need fixing, im not broken] or 2) help my dad "cope" [that's a little humorous]. But yeah, needless to say, it never happened because I refused to go.
Even if someone thought, because of their religion or stigmas, that you were going to Hell, it is in extremely bad taste that they tell you that. Its none of their business what you do. Its a sin to judge others, and the Bible says that no sin is greater than the other, so you know what? They're going to Hell, too. They give Christians a bad name. As my neighbor, I love you. Don't worry about them, keep doing what you're doing and stay lovely and strong.
What you say in this video reminds me of how irritating it is to me that many feminists believe that Gender is just a scocial construct and has nothing to do with genetics. Absolute bulls*hit. Gender is first something your born with, (transgenders are clearly proof of that), and Gender Construct is what happens later when society tries to force you to conform to acting the a certain way based on what your genitals are. But society's beliefs doesn't change your genetic makeup.
This is not the first or the last show "Dr" Phil will do on this subject. He doesn't know his ass from a whole in the wall, o only ends up hurting people. Write Oprah, since she produces his show.
I know I'm going totally off topic here but I've found that thinking of painful events or time periods from your past as things that have made you who you are today makes it easier to accept that they've happened and to move on. Being resentful or bitter is not healthy. Ok... now that I've put my two cents in on that note... on to commenting the Dr. Phil thing. I admit, I used to like Dr. Phil. Now... I think he is an ignorant, opinionated asshole. Erin, let Isaac know I wish him luck.
Ugh. Dr. Phil is just a big joke. He isn't even a real doctor. I just can't believe people actually watch his shit. I heard he was doing something on Transgenders but I didn't bother watching it because I knew it was going to be shit.
Oprah and Dr. Phil have both been leeching off of transgenders lately. They need to either do it right or buzz the fuck off.
My girlfriend told me about the episode, and I didn't even want to watch it. Really, all of the discrimination in the world isn't hate; it's stupididy and ignorance, and people like Dr. Phil and your parents don't help that. My father is very understanding, he's just hurt by it because he still feels like he's losing me. The rest of my family, save for my little sister - they don't understand and they don't care to. But sadly, that's the world and that's what it's come to.
omg! i posted this big long blog post on the Dr. Phill blogs on his web site and it was deleted in one minute! it didntsay anything but an opposite opinion. it was completely biased and proves how wrong they are being.
and the worst part of it all that I had to join the Dr.Phil website club thing to post it! aggghh!
I need help... Please give me advice

My respects.
silandthemagpie 7 months ago
hopefully people know Dr. Phil is so very close minded. but at least you got the mom who straight up called out the bull-shit belief/theory that a child's gender identity is something his/her parents can change or even influence. her personal story proved that no matter how badly she wanted her son to be a boy, she simply couldn't change his identity.
glad you shared this though[:

hi, im bi-sexual, but i have a friend who is currently about half way through the male to female treatment, i support it entirely, i myself would not do so, but i do support it, and i am glad you and my friend are not afraid to be proud of what you chose to be, i salute you, and some parents are very thick headed in their beliefs like yours were, but its happy to know there are a lot of parents out there who support this type of thing, many dont like the idea but they support it, youre awesome

On another note, while I'm glad

I couldn't watch his show, but I've read about it. He's not qualified, and this show just showed it.
I was pampered with girly things as a toddler. Yet I always was a "tomboy".
Even Tyra Banks did good shows on transgender issues. Why can't this guy do it then?

Thanks for this vid i think it's so good and brave you did this and being open to people to talk about something so delicate and knowing people are brutal with the issues that gender identity has ( i find it so caveman-ish to treat peoples feelings about themselves as broken bones that can be fixed by forcing it into the "correct" position).I am ignorant about this topic, but i want to know if transgender children from the moment they are conscious about everything, they kno the gender they are?

The key word in the verse is 'whoever'.God loves trans people, too.
killerrodan 1 year ago
Right, sure, because all parents are morons who are desperately clinging to over the top stupid TV shows rather than deeply loving their children for who they are. Really, until you are a parent, don't assume what it is like to be a parent, or that parents are going to take their cues from TV land. That show tried to present two diametrically opposed sides to a multidimensional issue, and it didn't work, don't use it to put down the intelligence of parents.
infpdarling 2 years ago
I think you're completely misreading what I am saying here. I certainly never meant to attack the intelligence of parents, but people like Dr. Phil do have a surprisingly large following. I simply expressed displeasure with they way this was handled on his show... I certainly never said anything belittling all parents.
As someone who is actively planning on having children in the near future that would just be silly.
grishno 2 years ago 12
@infpdarling You would be surprised at the information parents cling to in a crisis. Your whole world is put upside down and you grab for ANY information to stabilize yourself, even if it means the world makes sense to you for only minutes. So yes, people cling to anything, including celebrity tv therapist.

That dr. Phil show was a bullshit. I felt sorry for the mother, who had to listen to this bullshit about how being too close to a son makes him want to be a girl. This so called doctor is so wrong.
youtuba87 2 years ago 3
Dr Phil is a moron and is only licensed to practice in one state. People naively presume that b/c a person has Dr tagged to the front of their name that they're informed/educated. Phil merely has a PhD which has nothing at all to do with medical school. He's not even psychiatrist. He a psychologist which means that he can only offer talk based therapies. He can't prescribe meds, diagnose diseases, etc. Unfortunately many people don't even realize the difference between a Phd and a MD

I thank you for your video!

hi, I have a question for you. You said that since you were a kid you always wanted to be a girl, right? How does it make you feel to know that you are not a girl? that you will never be one. The closest thing you can be to a girl is a tran. Your dream of being a woman is never going to happen. So with that said, isn't that like living a lie? So when kids tell their parents that they want to be a girl, shouldn't the right answer be you are never going to be a girl!
jrodt9 2 years ago
I have a nasty habit of responding to trolls... so here I go.
First off, ya, there will always be certain things that I can't do. I can't have a baby, and that does make me very sad. That being said, I can still be a mom... whether that is via adoption or my partner giving birth to our child. And while it may not be everything I want, it's pretty close.
That's all I can hope for. Ya, I'll never change that I was born in the wrong gender, but I can get pretty damn close to fixing that.
grishno 2 years ago 9

XBrodyXDalleX 2 years ago
Its simple....lets spell this out. She was born into a boy's body but her mind, the way she thinks, processes things in her mind, the way she reacts and acts. Its all feminine. Its how her mind is wired. Its wired from the wrong body! But, there is still the attractiveness to women. No one questions a genetic woman who is lesbian beyond her being gay. Which as every day passes its more commonly accepted...

I have a question for you, how the fuck do you think that would make a person feel? Yes, that's how you feel, so I hope you are satified, you fucking ignorant cunt!

its a real question, not a slap in the face to anyone, quit posting ridiculous negs on peoples comments people
vwguyaz87 2 years ago
Actually, that wasn't a question... it was a broad, over generalized statement that all transwomen look weird.
Honestly though, if you saw me, or many of the transwomen who I know, walking on the street you would have no idea. I've had friends for over a year who have no idea.
Secondly, it's surgically easier for a guy to become a girl... easier to dig a hole than build a pole to be crude. But it is socially easier for a girl to be a guy.
But why is that? Doesn't that seems odd to you?

What I don't understand is why transgender gets tied up with homosexuality. Homosexuality is about who you're attracted to. Transgender is about who you ARE. And those to me seem to be two distinct things. To always be linking them the way they so often are linked makes no more sense to me than, say, assuming that if you're tall you enjoy basketball.
ubermom 2 years ago 10
Not rlly if you have a gender disorder than you see yourself as a woman, most woman see men attractive, 80% of transgender people or people with gender disorders are attracted to the same sex, If you have a gender identity disorder and are still attracted to the opposite sex of what you are born then you are technically a gay or lesbian transgender, because remember gender is not about whats down there its about whats in your head.
smexTTS 2 years ago
well a major step many transgenders take in realizing said transgenderism, is the realization that they are attracted to their "birth" sex, which, at the time, is recognized as their own, and so, it is seen as homosexual.
You have no idea how large discussions on this topic can get in groups of people who are openly attracted to pre-op MTFs. the "am i gay?" question comes up every 2 hours. at least.

Maybe in heaven or the afterlife everything will be made straight, because (unfortunately body change by plastic surgery is still really crude)
kimclark2000 2 years ago
my overall thoughts with transgenderism is still neutral in the end since it is such a controversial issue, but I believe in something called spectrums. I mean after all, I personally know some ex-trans ppl who actually (yes for real) got over their trasgenderism and accepted the body they were born as..without being miserable.
jualkyn 2 years ago
Do you really know how they feel? Sometimes the "acceptance" is just the person giving up on what they really want because their friends and family dont support them. and there is a difference between gender confusion and gender identity disorder.
xRavenWolfx 2 years ago 2
Those that aren't discriminating, but only wish for their transgendered family member/or friend to try to accept the body they were born as. It is a living nightmare for both since both ppl care about each other but it is still a tragedy when someone rejects the healthy body they were given, especially when there is nothing physically wrong with it. Even more fearful knowing that your trans friend will still never become the opposite gender, and will have to endure hatred from society in general
jualkyn 2 years ago
hatred from society seems like something that society should change, not the other way around. the transperson should not have to hide to avoid violence...violence just shouldnt happen.
people can be so ignorant and supid in this america place
alejandrox3 2 years ago
um who said anything about hiding? I don't think anyone should hide who they are, but that doesn't excuse the fact that their families will still worry about their trans kid who will endure hardship, discrimination from all sides of the spectrum. While parents should love their kids regardless of whether or not they are trans, violence isn't going to go away. That is reality.
jualkyn 2 years ago
I don't believe wanting to be the opposite gender is something to be ashamed about by any means, but I also don't agree that everyone should give in to the direct needs/wants of transgendered ppl. That isn't to say I am discriminating them by any means, but just like ppl who aren't trans should put themselves in the shoes of trans ppl, I think trans ppl should also try to put themselves in the other ppls shoes.
jualkyn 2 years ago

Doctor Phil first isn't a doctor he doesn't have a degree and plus he's an idiot so...he has no idea what he's talking about.
mtf91tran 2 years ago

I was jock and I am a very successful male; but it never goes away. It is this cloud that has enveloped my brain and is always there.

Dr. Phil's "experts" were astoundingly misinformed. Oprah actually did a show on transkids a few years ago that was much better, even though I was in tears by the end of it.
Bardlettt 3 years ago
your right, thats a load of crap!
if you are TG/TS/TV or anything, you can't 'cure' it!!
why do some ignorant people seem to think that anything different is evil and wrong!
just because you dont understand it, doesn't mean its bad!

I didn't see that particular Dr Phil episode, but I'm sure it was typically dreadful.
Can you post againj soon Erin? I miss your posts.

I am lucky enough to have a great support system now, and I hope that people won't let Dr Phil make up tier minds for them.
clariskincade 3 years ago 2

Lauren3332 3 years ago
I am assuming that you are a M to F trans yourself. I am as well. I too have tried to suppress the girl in me since I was 14 years old and you are correct in saying that it doesn't work. We are who we are and the world needs to realize that.
TaylorT345 3 years ago 2
Erin I have a question.
What is the difference between Transgendered and Transvestite?
MeganDaShit 3 years ago
I can answer this one. I am Transgendered. I was born as a boy and have wanted to be a girl almost all of my life. A Transvestite is what's more commonly known as a Cross Dresser.
TaylorT345 3 years ago
Okay, thank you. That makes sence. :]
MeganDaShit 3 years ago
Dr.Phil makes sense sometimes, but other times he's such a dumbass. An education doesn't give you a heart understanding! I didn't see the show but you're right about parents getting the wrong idea, who wants their kid feeling suicidal?...honestly
ShaolinHero1 3 years ago
I totally agree with you. I was very close to my mother when I was younger (and still am) and I'm a ftm tranny. There was some pressure for me to act more like a girl. This made me really good at faking the opposite gender as well.
The Dr. Phil video made me really angry, however I was really pleased with the mothers reaction.

Oh and by the way, I actually got a call from the producers... so it felt pretty good to DENY Dr. Phil's invitation.

PS. Dr. Phil IS so godawful!

DarthYuYevon 3 years ago
This is not the first or the last show "Dr" Phil will do on this subject. He doesn't know his ass from a whole in the wall, o only ends up hurting people. Write Oprah, since she produces his show.
joneyhits 3 years ago
I know I'm going totally off topic here but I've found that thinking of painful events or time periods from your past as things that have made you who you are today makes it easier to accept that they've happened and to move on. Being resentful or bitter is not healthy. Ok... now that I've put my two cents in on that note... on to commenting the Dr. Phil thing. I admit, I used to like Dr. Phil. Now... I think he is an ignorant, opinionated asshole. Erin, let Isaac know I wish him luck.
rndmobscenities 3 years ago
Ugh.
MadeUnderground 3 years ago
My girlfriend told me about the episode, and I didn't even want to watch it. Really, all of the discrimination in the world isn't hate; it's stupididy and ignorance, and people like Dr. Phil and your parents don't help that. My father is very understanding, he's just hurt by it because he still feels like he's losing me. The rest of my family, save for my little sister - they don't understand and they don't care to. But sadly, that's the world and that's what it's come to.
LukeMonaco 3 years ago
Great video!!! It is so important for people to have parents and family members who are accepting and understanding of them.
My parents are accepting (though not immediately) of me (I'm gay) and that has helped me so much.
Anyways, again thank you so much for addressing Dr. Phil on this issue.
You are amazing!
