the southern praying mantis version of that combo, would be charp sau an upper cut or a knee, your opponent throws a punch and you catch it, and go from charp sau into gow chi
Seven star mantis style. I got one on one instruction. Found it very useful for killing mosquitos when camping. my Seifu despaired of me because I would never hit him more than half power. I am a hippie peacenik martial artist. Took it to become better dancer and get in shape. My Seifu wanted a sparring partner. I never strike in anger. My self defense consists of sitting next to the bouncer.

For that you might be not the best represtative figure out there. I do appreciate you do not mock about with the Kungfu. It's real and people who practice it will know that immediately. Great job. Keep up the good work. I prefer to mix with the Tiger and fist. Or the styles known as Tsoi Li Ho Fut Hung.
The thing I find most interesting about kung fu is that most of the techniques are not so useful in sport like kickboxing or mma, but in real life it can be quite effective. Its amazing what difference there is in those strikes (especially to the head) just without the 4 oz gloves. Also the fact that most of those fast strikes are meant for the eyes/throat helps lol
Man your class is amazing and you teach a lot of moves in a shot, these are moves we would spend a lot of time to learn in a school, but here we can learn them in a single shot. Thank you very much teacher. You are a very dedicated teacher and deserve our best compliments. Congratulations for you!!!
awesome, pretty balanced because of his knowledge of all three styles.
I really do not want to mess up with you. But i think many ppl who didn't see this movie would because they think you are thin but at all you have good skills =D
@rugedandraw Generally, after 1-3 years (depending upon the school) of background and general Kung Fu, you choose a more specialized animal style based upon your physical and mental traits. Tiger and Dragon styles requires a lot of strength and brute force, while Crane and Snake are better for smaller, more agile people. Leopard (or Panther, depending again on the school) is sort of a middle ground between agility and strength.
I'm very surprised. When I was a kid, I took Tae Kwon Do, and thought different martial arts were variations of what I learned. But I've been looking up the different styles of Kung Fu lately, and it's like speaking a different language. Now I'm interested in taking Kung Fu!
Hey Maskdeferder I was wondering if you could tell me wich type of kung fu or martial art I can take cause I want to take something based on tiger style fighting and i just know of Fu jow pai and 5 Animal. Could you please help me?? thank you.
MD, good video. Beautiful jump kicks, and overall great technique. I would like to point out something that maybe you already noticed. When doing the front high kick, or flick kick as you called it, you bobbed your head a fair bit. This is a telegraph and will tell your opponent what kick you are about to hit with. Bad for fighting or sparring. I thought you might like to know that. Other than that, beautifully done. *bow*
Thanks for posting this but 5 animal Kung Fu is bullshit in my opinion. Human Being are not Tigers, snakes or White Cranes. We don't have claws or beaks. Find a good boxing gym learn how to throw a good punch. Then take a year of Karate...learn a front, side, groin and roundhouse kick.
Actually you know what, my comment might have been a bit ignorant, I watched the rest of the video and now I realize what a Crane style of strikes can do with YOUR speed.
is this like kong-fu,? cuz i started taking classes for a couple of months and they toght me about thetiger , the crane, and the dragon. and also are u going to show how to block, the punches?
i noticed a comment regarding sanshou and it being more effective for fighting. i think maybe you are just not taught traditional kungfu properly the tecniques arent simple because other skilled fighters have the capacity to be profound. i teach shaolin kungfu for fighting and it is quite effective aswell as efficient dont waste your time on martial sports theyre not suited to actual combat. wongkk. c o m thats where to visit if you like real kungfu or are interested wong kiew kit explains it
Quick question: I recently signed up for lessons of Tiger Style Kung Fu. I am also interested in taking Tai Chi, to improve breathing, smoothen movements, and feel at one with this energy referred to as chi. The Tai Chi school offers two classes: one is more of the martial art, and incorporates sanshou training, while the second teaches forms. If I am already taking a Kung Fu class, and take the Tai Chi forms class, is there great benefit with the sanshou class for Tai Chi?
Sanshou will teaching you fighting application. Its not as fancy as the forms and traditional styles but it much more modern and effective for the present time. Its like kick boxing but with kung fu methods and theories of fighting. If you like that and want to know how to use kung fu techniques to fight then this would be a good class. There will be much more conditioning and sparring most likely if you take the class.
@Maskdefender Thank you for this explanation! But what I also forgot to ask was this:
I am studying at two places: One teaches Tiger Style Kung Fu, and is divided into 3 classes a week (two for Kung Fu and one for Qigong.) The other is Tai Chi (which is divided into two classes in the week: one practices the traditional forms, and the other contains Sanshou.)
Would studying at one of these places interfere with doing the same in another, from the point of physical training or getting confused?
That depends on you. If you can learn many different ones at the same time then it should be alright. I personally recommend you choose to do one at a time though. Still if you can handle more than one than I would go with doing both. If you can focus and differentiate the styles that is. If not then stick to one style at a time.
@Maskdefender I looked at a video and you're good, if you could lay down another and that it is more about the tiger style, such as stances, because what you show is very good, but stances are more important.THANKS
Being an MMA fighter, i find this rather fascinating :) I practice Krav maga too, and i usually punch with my palm roots. I must try and use some of these "claws" :)
dud ethis is sick i love the kung fu styles and this is a very great video you help me to learn new tricks great ^^ will you do the other styles to? but anyways you made great videos keep it up *subbed*

man those kicks were awesome! i just wish they didnt hit with the foot. ive accidently kicked people with my foot, instead of the shin, when sparring and have had swelling so bad i could barely walk afterwards. i know, to a degree, you can toughen the body but the foot has just too much going on inside of it to really toughen.
WOW!!!!!! yo u'z da shut fa real... where u from!!! i think i need to train wit yo ass for a while to kinda lik upgrade wat i already kno...... iz there any capoeria in your blood(even tho its not one of da deadliest formz of martial arts)

i really want to know more about the tiger style i cant really find videos on it
i learn some basic thai boxing but i still love tiger style the most but sadly there is no place to learn can u show me more? ya maybe show us more of your leg movement rather then only your upper body as i can only learn the top part but dont know any of the lower movements THANKS^^
i really want to know more about the tiger style i cant really find videos on it
i learn some basic thai boxing but i still love tiger style the most but sadly there is no place to learn can u show me more? ya maybe show us more of your leg movement rather then only your upper body as i can only learn the top part but dont know any of the lower movements THANKS^^
I have just watched a few of your videos and what i have noticed is for you (please do not be offended) being thin, you have some power and i can see you are barely trying, is this chi?
Yes Chi is the overall simple answer. But hardly anyone explains what is really happening to create chi. It takes a lot of time and practice to cultivate Chi which is basically the internal transfer of force in the most efficient way project it into the target without any loss in power. I'm in college studying to be an ESS (Exercise and Sports Science) Major and go into Kinesiology or Biomechanics. To learn how the body moves and produces forceful power effectively. To analyze what we call Chi.
@Maskdefender can you recommend any finger strengthening techniques for tiger throat attacks? i sometimes hit a board with my fingers in eagle claw/tiger claw position but i dont know if i am doing it right?
So far I've found many different factors that contribute to this production of energy. The ground, fast twitch muscles, organs, heart, bones, positioning, torque, multiplying energy chain, closed loop control in nerves. nerve firing muscle memory reflexes to the neuromuscular spindle each muscle fiber. recruiting new motor units, increasing CSA (Cross Sectional Area) or Atrophy of muscles for more mass and easier movement. but not to much increase in CSA. Correctly sequenced muscle contractions.
@Maskdefender These videos are very good i think the explanation followed up by the repetition is great and by any chance are you a Taoist or Busshist
@Maskdefender I think it's call isometric strength I read about it not to sure what book but, apparently Bruce Lee had it as well, and you are my idol to making my kicks faster thanks to your training video.
@bizzyfingers its also called lean muscle, the people that pump iron and weights all day are not very strong. theyre just good at lifting weights. Kung Fu is not about growing unnatural muscle like that. Thing is strong.
@bizzyfingers You build a different kind of muscle when you're a practitioner of kung fu. You can train and train and become stronger and stronger and not visibly gain any muscle! Be careful of the thin ones!
Great vid! I like how you make everything sound "intuitive." Many people make the 5 animal styles sound so complex when they're really pretty simple. As Grandmaster Chiu Chi Lin says "Hung Gar is easy" lol
Thanks for posting this, it shows some of the subtleties of chinese arts' movements that those unfamiliar with them would probably miss watching most videos.

My kung-fu teacher teaches us Tiger, Crane, Leopard, Dragon and Snake :D
I'm thinking about doing Leopard because it's fast and I can hit hard with my palm. (says he)

good job mate. focus the qi for creation. not destruction. the old ways of violence you demonstrate are excellent. but saddening.

I have just watched a few of your videos and what i have noticed is for you (please do not be offended) being thin, you have some power and i can see you are barely trying, is this chi?
bizzyfingers 1 year ago
Yes Chi is the overall simple answer. But hardly anyone explains what is really happening to create chi. It takes a lot of time and practice to cultivate Chi which is basically the internal transfer of force in the most efficient way project it into the target without any loss in power. I'm in college studying to be an ESS (Exercise and Sports Science) Major and go into Kinesiology or Biomechanics. To learn how the body moves and produces forceful power effectively. To analyze what we call Chi.

Thanks

@bizzyfingers its also called lean muscle, the people that pump iron and weights all day are not very strong. theyre just good at lifting weights. Kung Fu is not about growing unnatural muscle like that. Thing is strong.
NightmareSTD 1 year ago
@bizzyfingers You build a different kind of muscle when you're a practitioner of kung fu. You can train and train and become stronger and stronger and not visibly gain any muscle! Be careful of the thin ones!

Great vid! I like how you make everything sound "intuitive." Many people make the 5 animal styles sound so complex when they're really pretty simple. As Grandmaster Chiu Chi Lin says "Hung Gar is easy" lol

Thanks for posting this, it shows some of the subtleties of chinese arts' movements that those unfamiliar with them would probably miss watching most videos.
