I'm one who believes that the racial IQ gap is real and consistent, but is not genetically fixed. Cultural values, economics, access to education, and proper nutrition play a huge role. But "selective breeding" could also help. Illegitimacy, fatherless households, and low education is the norm for blacks. But imagine if ALL women suddenly refused to breed with any black males with criminal records, and only with intellectual types instead? In 20 years--significant gene pool improvement.

So all we had were cultural memes of antiquated peasant farmer traditions passed on. The most interesting part about this research is the relationship between culture and psychology. What it demonstrates is how racial prejudice is internalized. However, racism is internalized this way because it is already predominant in the culture. Change the culture even slightly such as by electing a black president and the interalized racism changes as well. This is a great example of how subtly racism influences people.
It is amazing research, but it isn't surprising. Other research has shown similar psychological responses. Immediately after boxing matches, people who look like the losing fighter are more often beat up. So, I wonder if whites did worse on tests after Obama's election. It would be truly interesting, however, if both blacks and whites did well after Obama's election.

But the sad thing is that black students on average don't work harder in the intellectual realm. They work harder in other activities including sport and they excel or gain notoriety. So it is part genetic and part culture.

Of course, if anyone studies harder, they will do better on school tests. I.Q. levels are a different subject, where Whites and Asians test much higher than other races. Totally makes sense. Minorities often adopt a mentality that makes us less abitious. But when you drop that mentality and you work hard then the sky is the limit. I'm not a supporter of Obama but the good thing about him getting elected is that many black kids have realized that they can acheive their goals.

Well, a combination of many things and of coarse it doesn't happen in a vacum. I once had a guidance councellor tell me that I couldn't be a lawyer (A GUIDANCE COUNCELLOR OF ALL PEOPLE!). I live in Canada but I understand the same problem exists in the US. We have the same problem of inner city public schools getting less govt funding than public schools in the suburbs. Obama should be pressured by the black community if he doesn't address these issues or any regarding racial disparity.

I'm a psychology student myself and am not suprised by these results. Rewarding effort over achievement is probably the most important thing you can teach children, as then they will put their all into everything they do without feeling like a failure

Yeah i know how that works. Right after my first grade teacher told me i should be run out of the country and killed or imprisoned, my scholatic career was pretty much flushed. It severely damage my ability to feel like part of anything. If a kid is treated fairly, that counts for a good deal, but if a kid is universally condemned that is not a good thing. It has to do with acceptable prejudice as carried out by agents in the protecting hierarchy. i'm glad they are feeling and doing better.

To me its obvious. Blacks and Hispanics are the two races of Americans that no one gives a shit about, they are more or less forced to live in poverty where the youth develops a survival mentality. In turn this creates a culture that values education very little. I think its something like 1 out of every 7 black children grow up without a father....you expect those kids to instinctively do well in school and stay out of trouble? Get real.

They are less represented in TV commercials, movies, ads, etc. They hardly ever make the news, they're kind of invisible. I'm one who believes that the racial IQ gap is real and consistent, but is not genetically fixed. Cultural values, economics, access to education, and proper nutrition play a huge role. But "selective breeding" could also help. Illegitimacy, fatherless households, and low education is the norm for blacks. But imagine if ALL women suddenly refused to breed with any black males with criminal records, and only with intellectual types instead? In 20 years--significant gene pool improvement.

So all we had were cultural memes of antiquated peasant farmer traditions passed on. My ancestors were dirt poor and uneducated, but--as you could guess--placed premium value on hard work, education, honor, obligation and group unity. America for was their Land of Opportunity, so they conceived of their saga differently.

The most interesting part about this research is the relationship between culture and psychology. What it demonstrates is how racial prejudice is internalized. However, racism is internalized this way because it is already predominant in the culture. Change the culture even slightly such as by electing a black president and the interalized racism changes as well. This is a great example of how subtly racism influences people.

It is amazing research, but it isn't surprising. Other research has shown similar psychological responses. Immediately after boxing matches, people who look like the losing fighter are more often beat up. So, I wonder if whites did worse on tests after Obama's election. It would be truly interesting, however, if both blacks and whites did well after Obama's election.

So you admit that blacks and whites are physically different. I agree. This being so, is it not logical that blacks and whites also have different brains? If blacks and whites, who are 2 different races, and who are different athletically--i.e., muscularly-- then it logically follows that our brains, which are physical, also have differences in their mental outputs. This output is measured in I.Q. tests.

You don't seem to be getting the larger point: Just as leaping ability can be tested and recorded with measurements, so can intellect be tested and measured on an I.Q. scale. These 'tests' that the video discusses do not demonstrate intellectual equality. In fact, the researcher giving the tests are treating black kids as if they are dogs being trained to perform a new trick. Like they must be tricked into doing better on tests. If I were black, I'd be insulted by this video!

But these tests that he's talking about are just ordinary course work--plain ol' school tests. These tests do not measure I.Q. levels. Of course, if anyone studies harder, they will do better on school tests. I.Q. levels are a different subject, where Whites and Asians test much higher than other races. This video is very misleading, giving the impression that all races are equal, when clearly they are not. Who invented computers and put men is space? Answer: White men.

Except, perhaps, some sort of ebonics based test, or some sort of test based on the founding fathers of gansta rap music. However, if whites were allowed to study for these tests, they would then out-perform blacks. Where as the other videos posted at the same time had thousands of views. This is why i love young turks. Their content is diverse. Even when they were/are covering the Israel/Palestine problem, which I believed they sided more with Palestine they brought an Israeli historian on the show to give a 100%, uncensored, uninterrupted, unedited, factual account and perspective of Israel's history. They give their opinions while still trying their hardest to analyze situations without bias. This is how journalism should be. Voicing your opinion is fine just cover both sides.

Totally makes sense. Minorities often adopt a mentality that makes us less abitious. But when you drop that mentality and you work hard then the sky is the limit. I'm not a supporter of Obama but the good thing about him getting elected is that many black kids have realized that they can acheive their goals.

Well, a combination of many things and of coarse it doesn't happen in a vacum. I once had a guidance councellor tell me that I couldn't be a lawyer (A GUIDANCE COUNCELLOR OF ALL PEOPLE!). I live in Canada but I understand the same problem exists in the US. We have the same problem of inner city public schools getting less govt funding than public schools in the suburbs. Obama should be pressured by the black community if he doesn't address these issues or any regarding racial disparity.

I went to a predominately white school in middle school, I got( and still get) all A's. other black students would put me down and call me 'oreo' and 'uppity' for making good grades

I'm a psychology student myself and am not suprised by these results. Rewarding effort over achievement is probably the most important thing you can teach children, as then they will put their all into everything they do without feeling like a failure

Yeah i know how that works. Right after my first grade teacher told me i should be run out of the country and killed or imprisoned, my scholatic career was pretty much flushed. It severely damage my ability to feel like part of anything. If a kid is treated fairly, that counts for a good deal, but if a kid is universally condemned that is not a good thing. It has to do with acceptable prejudice as carried out by agents in the protecting hierarchy. i'm glad they are feeling and doing better.
