Cool : I love how Joe is able to play perfectly on a guitar without vibrato, and I love the introduction of the minor pentatonic scale at 2:38 (playing it back from the 6th chord 6th fret) and at 2:50 (down from the A string 15th fret and back at 3:07). Great performance, I like this version from Surfing,If you listen on every Album from Joe there is always songs with this minor pentatonic scale, played up or down or random, like salt or pepper on your sunny side up eggs. Cf. Super Colossal

what pedal settings was he using when you recorded this? I have a digitech rp90 and i'm sure i can't play this (not even dream with it) but i sure can have that sound, and that would be a great begining.

@anirban747 Well, I have to disagree. I you ever hear the Big Bad Wah, Satchurator combination, it's unique, and very harmonically active. And it sounds NOTHING like this. Sure, you know it's him playing, but you can't his "sound" from that equipment.

this tone comes from the DS-1 + eventide h3000 d/se + wha + whatever, but it could be easily emulated with a little settings (+12) on the "pitch section" on your multi-fx.
I have a korg ax3000g and i get the tone doing this :)
Of course Joe wasn't offensive to you or your guitar. Only stupid people could think like that. Maybe was the neck as you say, or the strings, the Scale/Length, the action, etc. There are many things to feel a guitar painfull, but he wasn't offensive at all, you can see that on his face. I had the chance to meet Joe back in 2002 or something, on a G3 tour here in México and he's such a nice and down to earth guy. Joe Satriani is my god. He has been since the early 90's and he will always be.
All I can say is that it's really in the fingers, even it's a different guitar it still sounds like Joe. I am proud to say that I share the same name as Joe! Long Live Joe Satriani!

Technique is in the fingers. Without good technique, you wont sound good, no matter how good your tone is.
With good technique, you can have a crap tone, but still sound good because technique is more important than tone.
To have both good technique and tone is best.

what pedal settings was he using when you recorded this? I have a digitech rp90 and i'm sure i can't play this (not even dream with it) but i sure can have that sound, and that would be a great begining.

It is yet again proved that great tones lie at player's fingers.No amount of fancy gadgets and state of the art equipment can help you to develop your own signature tone..

@anirban747 Well, I have to disagree. I you ever hear the Big Bad Wah, Satchurator combination, it's unique, and very harmonically active. And it sounds NOTHING like this. Sure, you know it's him playing, but you can't his "sound" from that equipment.

@dangerdong hehe Joe was playing through a digitech rp 200, and very possibly with a "patch" created by himself :)
this tone comes from the DS-1 + eventide h3000 d/se + wha + whatever, but it could be easily emulated with a little settings (+12) on the "pitch section" on your multi-fx.
I have a korg ax3000g and i get the tone doing this :)

Of course Joe wasn't offensive to you or your guitar. Only stupid people could think like that. Maybe was the neck as you say, or the strings, the Scale/Length, the action, etc. There are many things to feel a guitar painfull, but he wasn't offensive at all, you can see that on his face. I had the chance to meet Joe back in 2002 or something, on a G3 tour here in México and he's such a nice and down to earth guy. Joe Satriani is my god. He has been since the early 90's and he will always be.
