@halofan38 Try a regular USB memory stick first. Microsoft pushed an Xbox update in April 2010 to support them as removable storage. If it works, then you don't have to buy a memory unit or transfer kit.
This video is legit. I still use this procedure on AC2 and AC: Brotherhood.
@farrella111111 Yes. I believe that ever since the Xbox 360 feature update of April 2010 you can use a regular USB memory stick. That will save some money on hardware/software. Otherwise, the process remains the same. It also works on AC Brotherhood.
@olliekid12 No, you misunderstood. AC1 and AC2 are independent games. Doing something in AC1 won't help you in AC2.
The same *process* works to replay story missions in each game. This process is illustrated on AC1 in this video. While you're replaying AC2, backup the savegame before each assassination. It doesn't take much time and then in the future you can replay missions without restarting the game.
@Jak35ter In AC1 you can do it from the Animus menu (i.e. when Desmond lies down on the Animus). Use the right thumbstick to highlight a previously completed memory block. Select it. Scroll to the bottom left and choose "Replay". Confirm.
AC2 only lets you replay certain memories such as tombs. The procedure shown in this video works for both AC1 and AC2. It lets you go directly to pretty much any point within a Memory Block/Sequence.
@stevan96 Not sure I understand your question. On AC1, there are achievements for doing different types of side missions: Defender of the People, Disciple of the Creed, etc. Doing all the Investigations can also help you plan a successful assassination. See my video "Beginners Guide to Assassinations".
@nikkicamps This process is to enhance replayability. On AC1 it lets you *replay* an assassination immediately, without spending 45 minutes doing Investigations, etc. On AC2 it lets you replay assassinations period. Without this process, you'd have to start a new game.
It doesn't take much effort if you do this from the start. I've only played AC2 one time (officially), backing up savegames as I went. Since then I've replayed assassinations dozens of times.
@SilEnCeEYEKeElYu I think you misunderstand what a savegame file is. It represents a snapshot of the state of the game: where you are, what you've already done, and what remains to be done next.
If you want to replay a whole memory block, copy the savegame at the beginning of the MB (or just choose "Replay Memory Block" from the Animus menu).
@SilEnCeEYEKeElYu The procedure in the video also works with two memory units. Just designate one as your "transfer" unit and play off the other one.
I think Microsoft released a patch that allows you to use regular USB memory sticks as storage devices now. Those will plug into a computer without any special cable or software.
do you know if there is anyway to replay missions on AC2 regularly. with out doing all this? I heard people saying something about using the DNA section to replay missions but I looked into that and didn't see what they were talking about. Any Ideas?
Story memories cannot be replayed. However, all side missions and Assassin tombs/Templar lairs can be replayed at any time after first completing them: 1. Pause the game to go into the Animus Desktop Menu 2. Select 'DNA' 3. Move to the right of the story sequences until you pass the part that says 'Secondary Memories' 4. Select the category of memory you want to replay 5. Select the specific memory you want to replay 6. Press the button corresponding to 'Replay Memory'
This video is for Xbox 360 only. IanXO4 did the related video for PS3 but it only works on AC1.
The situation is grim for AC2 on PS3. Ian's workaround for replaying assassination missions is to back up his whole PS3 hard drive to an external USB drive. It takes about 15 minutes per backup or restore.
Let's hope that Ubisoft provides a patch to allow any memory to be replayed (not just tombs, contracts, etc.) It's a feature in high demand from customers.
I made this video a year ago when there was only AC1. The procedure works the same way on AC2 for Xbox 360. Only the filename is different, as explained in the annotations.
Is there something you don't understand about applying this to AC2?
Is there anyway to do the same for the PS3? Say, placing a usb memory stick and then copying the contents of the memory stick in your PC. Hmm, I just wonder?
That works on AC1 (ask ianxofour for details) but not on AC2 because the savegame is encrypted. The only known workaround for AC2 is to backup your whole hard drive to an external USB drive. It sucks.
I am playing AC1 now, and I bought AC2 already to play it later next year. However, what you are telling me sucks since I have read that AC2 has similar glitches where people cannot continue the game. Humpback!
At least AC1 has Replay Memory Block. On AC2 you're supposed to start a new game to replay story assassinations. Then they took away savegame copying on PS3.
The glitch where people get stuck in Sequence 11 has already been patched.
The main thing is to hook up your Xbox to the internet. I ran a Cat5 cable to my router. Some people use wireless. From Xbox Dashboard, go to System Blade, Network Settings, and Test Xbox LIVE Connection. If that works, proceed to "Join Xbox LIVE" on the Dashboard. It's pretty straightforward.
You get 30 days of Xbox LIVE Gold for free. It starts as soon as you join. After 30 days, it drops to a Silver level membership. You can buy 1, 3, or 12 month Gold membership cards on Amazon.
This is by far the biggest flaw of Assassin's Creed. Never mind the the repetion, this flaw involves REPLAYING that repetition. Seriously, how could the developers allow this? I loved the game, so don't get me wrong, I just can't believe I had to wade through the crap of the game to get to the best parts. I'm seriously hoping this obcenity is addressed in the sequel. Good video none the less, you're very clever to figure all that out! ;P
damn! The "loading screen" on the xbox takes so long time! On my PC the lady (or animus) dosn't always have time to complete her line before you start...
That's correct: two out of six on Memory Blocks 2 and 3, three out of six on MB4 and later. Isn't that what I said in the video? You should backup the savegame any time after completing the minimum number of investigations.
Suppose you want to repeat the assassination of Talal:
With this procedure it takes roughly 5 minutes of gameplay (talk to Rafiq and run to Barbican).
Without the procedure, about 45 minutes (talk to Al Mualim, cross Masyaf, cross Kingdom, enter Jerusalem, do two investigations, run to Bureau, talk to Rafiq and run to Barbican).
The time differential is even greater on Tamir and Robert de Sable (Arsuf). If you're going to replay assassinations as often as I do, the procedure is worth it.
ahh ok thanks, I guess I was having so much fun killing templars that I didn't remember how much time it was XD but this is a good guide to use for other games too right?
It's only cheating if you use someone else's save files. As mentioned in the video, Xbox has a mechanism that ties save files to your gamer tag to prevent achievement cheating. The procedure I outline involves completing the whole game yourself and then playing parts of it again. There's nothing cheaty about that.
The label on my CD says "XChange 360" but the installed application is "XPort 360 V1.04". I don't know what the difference is.
Sometimes it's particular about opening my Memory Unit. The application will crash just after I click OK to open. It usually works on the second try, though.
I don't know. Will try it out and get back to you. My hunch is that it must be called "assassin.sav" and it must be in folder "00000001".
I once tried creating a second folder called "00000002" and sticking another assassin.sav in it, but the Xbox identified it as "Corrupted Marketplace Content". My goal was to put multiple savegames on the memory unit and avoid running back to the computer.
The good news is that AC will recognize the save file regardless of what it's named. Bad news: If there's more than one save file, it picks the "first one" (either alphabetically or by date added, not sure which).
So you can keep multiple save files on your memory unit (same directory, different names). They all appear as "Assassin's Creed Saved Game". If you know which is which, pick one and copy it to hard drive. First, delete all other save files on hard drive to force it to pick yours.
Thanks Abosol. This video was hard to put together because the elements came from so many places: Xbox, PC, digital photos, microphone, etc. The lip sync at the beginning was particularly ambitious.
