@16secRicer I put together a turbo kit for my e36 M3 for under 4k. This includes a lowered compression motor, a DBB PT6262, a custom FMIC setup, TiAl BOV and WG, a clutch that can hold up to 550WTQ, turbo manifold, oil lines, full vibrant 3" exhaust, the best tune you can buy that retains the stock DME, injectors and a blowthrough MAF setup. With a good driver and wider tires in the rear, i could easily run 11's. Civics are much cheaper to turbo, so youre wrong.. DIY fabbing goes a long way.

Theres nothing wrong with muscle i like them. but point of the matter was, anyone could pick up a cheap honda and spend about 5-7k to make it run 11s, only if you know what youre doing. And if you know anything about h2b builds, i pretty much have on sitting in a EF and i hang with the new mustangs, not to mention its stock w/ full interior, and my car isnt riced.
@16secRicer people who spend over 10k on turbo parts will run into 10s. and you dont know anything about what the f22 is capable of. And yes you're right about ebay shit, which i dont buy from. But if you know anyone who can manufacture you some custom pipes you can easily spend less than 10k on a turbo set up. I ran a ls-vtec t3/t4 turbo that made around 300whp for less than 4k altogether (money spent through over time and acquiring free parts) but i fried a piston after a year of abuse.
@16secRicer there is one honda motor that is reliable for boost up to i believe 20psi without any internals be changed and thats the f22. The srt4, wrx and evos were built for turbo, its not like they came without turbo and you could just slap on a turbo on it. same with the 2jz in the sc300s they are comparable but they dont have the same internals. Don't get me wrong i dont have anything against any cars, but reliability is out of the question for any car cause shit happens.
@16secRicer i dont think he spent more than 10k on that civic. b18c (2k) internals maybe, if he had any; it would probably consist of port and polish, valves and retainers. maybe high compression pistons all the in the range of 5-7k.

Honda civics are a very, very popular race car, especially on the club racing seen, motorkhanas, hillclimbs, rally cross, sprints, circuit etc, etc. I know becasue i race against them. They are amazing at cornering, with little mods needed. American cars are not known for their cornering/ handling ability in fact they are renowed for being god awful at it. Put it in a gutted early 60s falcon and you got a 6s car. theres truth in the saying " no replacement for displacement". With alittle know how and skill. you could make a 700+HP naturally aspirated BB that runs on pump gas. wouldnt cost much either. you find BB all in WA state for under 300 Bucks. do most the work yourself and you got a 700hp for under 4k

Even a Supra with a 2JZ needs serious modification to run 10s. The Viper may cost more but it legitimately can run 10-second 1/4 times and still be streetable and reliable. eighth mile drags... Of course the hamster powered car beat the Viper. Hamster powered care are decently quick off the line but no top end! The Viper launches hard but not as quick as a Honda. Now, in the quarter mile, that Civic would have been TOAST!!

@oldskoolmuscleguy true, But the money it would take to build that 1000HP 4cyl. i could make 1000HP BB for probably well under half the cost. Put it in a gutted early 60s falcon and you got a 6s car. theres truth in the saying " no replacement for displacement". With alittle know how and skill. you could make a 700+HP naturally aspirated BB that runs on pump gas. wouldnt cost much either. you find BB all in WA state for under 300 Bucks. do most the work yourself and you got a 700hp for under 4k

@diablo6211 I disagree, there comes a point where V8's and I4's have the same hp that it all depends on the person operating the vehicle and the person tuning the vehicle, v8's are strong but heavy, I4's lack of strength are remedied by a light chassis...unless a v8 is a rocket dragster, its an even fight for the I4's..

If your talking about 2 cars that make the same HP, Then yes. It comes down to mostly drive, But if the guy say with 1071HP & 1237TQ BB in a 2200Lb gutted falcon and knows how to drive. Races a guy in a 1086HP & 860TQ I4 in a gutted civic and knows how to drive. My moneys on the BB every time.

@L1LC0MPT0N - What you fail to recognize is that REAL gear-heads know that a true 10-second 1/4 mile Honda needs $10-20k in it to get it running that quick, and the only one I've ever seen wasn't streetable, it had 10" drag slicks on the front and could only run straight-line 1/4 mile. Even a Supra with a 2JZ needs serious modification to run 10s. The Viper may cost more but it legitimately can run 10-second 1/4 times and still be streetable and reliable. NOT happening with a Honda, sorry...

Just search for quick hondas there are civics with 500hp + at the wheels and can do in excess of 200mph. There are plenty of japanese cars that are used for drag and can do sub 7 second pass, the enzo wouldn't touch them.

@azonicj7 You're right, anyone can put a crap load of money into a car and get it to rocket down a quarter mile drag strip. But there are some problems with that. 1.) If you are in a civic, you are still going to look like a deusch. 2.) The viper would have caught it had it gone on for any longer. 3.) Pure horse power won't get you anywhere on a real race coarse. It takes suspension and skill to take what people who don't drive civics call, A TURN!!!

In Touge or even Circuit, it comes down to WHO CAN DRIVE! I would rather bet the faster driver than a faster car. 1000hp can't take you to the bottom of a mountain any faster than a 245hp car.

@ballsrburning Hondas tend to be less expensive to get some decent performance out of. Which is why they are so popular with tuners, for around $10k, you can get the car, and enough parts/tuning to build a fun, reliable car. Not sure that a standard $10k build would be enough to beat a viper, but, it would definitely beat a lot of other cars, and be a ton of fun to drive either way.

Yes you do need to post a response as you clearly said any car can beat any car, and since F1 cars are cars, you pretty much just said that a civic can beat an F1. Also it does not boil down how much money you throw at it because there is a limit on how much you can tune a car.

I have never made reference at all about the cars performance on track or over a larger distance, it's a quarter mile race. The F1 is a purpose buit race car, only for racing, there was never a road legal version, it is not the same. I am suprised I have to point that out.

lol People buy Vipers because they are beautiful. People buy Hondas to take themselves to college. Yeah, I'm a fanboy...of cars in general. Those little civics can be very fun to build up...but after that, what else are they good for? Especially after gutting the interior, removing the A/C and heater, and then swapping out with an engine that isn't exactly good for being a daily driver.
