  • Great video I was just at the craft store and noticed the paint brushes and felt how soft and comparable they were to makeup brushes Now I know I can use them for that yay :)

  • Fabulous!!! What I like the best is that most craft stores have a coupon out every week for one product. Usually 40% off.

  • It's official. This guy is a genius.

  • omg you are like my angel. i go to school and wanted quality brushes but for cheap. i dont like it when the strings come out the brushes so i was like i am going to HAVE to get MAC but now i don't

  • Also a great brand not expensive is REAL TECHNIQUE they are so nice and cheap the best is they are cruelty free they are synthetic try them they are at ulta and amazons

  • I do the same thing and I have a list too on my blog janellelora.blogspot.com...its got prices and pictures and everything :)

  • @janellelora I looked on your blog but didn't see the list or the pictures, can you direct me? Thanks!

  • @janellelora never mind, I found it! sorry!

  • errr... OFCOURSE I'm gonna subscribe!

  • Well with MAC, you're paying mostly for the name haha

  • I don't understand who could dislike this video!! you're a genious :)

  • what about a dupe for mac 217 and also sigma f50 and f80?

  • amazing! :)! thanks!

  • Soooooo happy that u did this video!!! I'm new to makeup & really want to learn the proper way to apply it. I knew that I needed high quality brushes but I was skeptical about shelling out buckets of money just for practice. Now I can't wait for tmrw to get here!!! I'll be shopping in Michael's like I'm in Sephora!!!!

  • Wow this was really interesting I was looking for the name of a specific Mac brush I wanted and some tips and absolutely never thought about paint brushes. And I shop at michaels ALOT!! Thx for the tips!! Defently would love to see more

  • informative!

  • hey, whats a dupe for the mac 217 i want that brush so bad cause i heard so many great things about it, but if i can find something for half the price or less i would much rather get it if it does the same job.

  • @MissAngie8787

loew cornell mini mop 1/4 inch

  • Thank u for posting this! I love my MAC brushes, but they are sooo expensive. I used to take art classes and the brushes were so awesome.

  • U remind me of Mr.Ayala....do u know him? u 2 shuld be twins

  • hey koren i have a question, can u use eyshadow brushes also as like a concealer brush or a lip brush???because i have an elf brush and it says its a concealer brush but its so small i could use it as a lip brush

  • Thank you very much for taking the time to make this vid! I'm a new Bare Escentuals customer & am starting to build my makeup & brush collection. I've heard both MAC & Bare Escentuals brushes- but was looking for comparable cheaper alternatives. I'm going to check out Michael's before I buy any more brushes, since watching this!! Thanks again!! :)

  • Thank you so much! I love Mac... but I'm a returning student and this is extremely helpful! Thank you for all that you do!! :)

  • thumbs up if your watchin this in 2011

  • @mrsaz91316 FAIL. 3 weeks and still no thumbs up. LOL

  • @penguinluv11 Most likely the brand name. I know I wouldn't pay an extra $40 for a NAME >_>

  • This is really helpful. I bought a 1/4 Loew-Cornell Maxine mop brush for general application of eyeshadow and a Simply Simmons 1/8 angle shader for eyeliner. They didn't disappoint :)

  • On this day, 4yrs ago this video helped a college girl who had just started out with makeup and wanted to be beautiful without going broke. Today it is still helping young women on a budget. Amazing.

  • Excellent vid! Thanks for the helpful info!

  • This is really helpful! Thank you!

  • Did I get a bad xxl round mop brush, or is it supposed to be that way! Please let me know and thanks! By the way I spent about $48 dollars on all my brushes and I am so happy with them! I could only buy about 1-2 MAC brushes with $48 bucks. Your video was so inspiring...you saved me so much money...thanks sooooo much Enkore! XOXO

  • I just ordered about 8-10 Loew Cornell brushes off a website called Hofcraft.com (great website btw, live in WI and got my brushes in about 3 days). Anyways I ordered the XXL Loew-Cornell Round Mop Brush (#277) and the hairs fall out of it like crazy..kinda disappointed. On the website it says that these round mop brushes are made out of black goat hair. I ordered the 1/4, 3/8, and 1 inch maxine mop brushes (made of of white goat hair) and the hairs don't fall out of those.

  • Thanks Koren! I need to get brushes but I don't have a lot of money to spend.

  • Wish I saw your video before I bought a few brushes from MAC. Im going to a craft store next.. :P thanks for the vid!

  • THANKYOU SO MUCH. I am so happy that I am not going to spend a whole bunch of money on the MAC brushes, like I was planning too.

  • i once bough crayola brush sets just for to paint but i have one that looked like an angled eyeliner brush and i use it for my eyes and its amazinggg<3

  • THANK YOU for making this video!!!! Really great to get a professional's opinion on MAC alternatives! You definately have more credibility than a random teenage girl who just likes playing around with makeup for fun.

  • Thank you SO much for this video! It was so helpful *off to Michaels...

  • thank god you made this video! I always wondered how art brushes would work. I am glad to hear this! I am going to get some this weekend!!!!

  • i use an art brush for applying heavy eyeshadow it packs it on good!! my fav go to brush!!

  • Thank you thank you! Your advice and thrifty ideas are so helpful. =)

I've learned alot from you, and saved money for more makeup goodies

  • What about the 217 224 219 and 227!!!! :( uuugh

  • You are the best !! Ever!! Thank you very much I'm running to a craft store asap.

  • Thank you sooooo much!!!! This helped me out a lot!!! You are the best! Much respect and hope you keep it going with your videos! I love them all! Maraming salamat po!

  • I don't think I even own any "makeup" brushes, all I have are tons of paint brushes I use!

  • S.O.S. INGLOT BRUSHES , ARE THEY GOOD?

  • Thank you so much for uploading this. You're amazing. <33

  • Thank you so much.... you're awesome!!!!

  • awesome! thanks!!!

  • I use my Ecotools and Real Techniques brushes (and a random one I got at TJ Maxx lol) and altogether, they probably cost me $35 altogether (I have about 10-15 brushes). I can honestly say I haven't had a single problem with them and I couldn't imagine paying the crazy amounts that some people do for brushes. Save your money, buy EnKore's suggestions or a set of the brushes I mentioned, and spend it on actual makeup.

  • Loew Cornel is Rolls Royce of painting brushes! Awesome brushes! Good video, EnKore! ^^

  • I think most people just buy Mac brushes because when they do tutorials they want everyone to know they bought the expensive stuff.

  • i never used leow cornell. how soft are the brushes? or are they scratchy?!

  • Awesome. I thought I was the only one that used my painting brushes as make-up substitutes. Thanks for sharing EnKore :)

  • really great information, thank you! =)

  • when i use to buy paint brushes for school, i always thought they would make good make up brushes, but wasn't sure!!! this video is great! thank you!

  • heeeill yeah i wanna save money! i LOVE mac but im not coughing up that much for freakin brushes with three fancy letters on em. thankss, but no thanks haha.

thank you sooo much for this video!!!! offf to Michale's!!! =D

  • The first brush I ever used for eye shadow was a paint brush.

  • this is a really great bit of information! i love this! was wondering about it. thank u for a detailed n pleasant comparison... :)

  • Anyone knows a dupe of the MAC 219 pencil brush?

  • @hasita79

Loew-Cornell (S) Dome Round (green handle)

  • Jesuschrist!! This will save us a lot of money thank you so much!! :D

  • he is not gay he is just a boy makeup artist and thats all

  • awesome video!

  • I love this video i always am looking at brushes but not mac but they r still pricey but not as good of a quality and now i have some gr8 advice now thx i will have to get some of those!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Can you buy it at michaels arts and crafts

  • agh thank god, i thought i was the only one using art brushes!!!

  • Nice

  • ur amazing enkore! thanks! im definitely heading to micheals this weekend!

  • Shuba due dabu da deedelum dam!

  • Thanks so much, I absolutely hate paying a fortune for makeup brushes

  • I'm using hobby Oil painting brush #00 for my gel eyeliner (think it not even a $) , and it's as good as the expensive brushes ^ ^

  • Omg! Last time i was at michaels i started to wonder if paint brushes would work for makeup, but i wasnt sure so i didnt purchase any. Thank you soo much for this video! So helpful. :)

  • Thank you sooo much

  • i prefer the painting brushes

  • Loved loved this. At the end of the video you were about to talk about the Lowe Cornell brush you use for foundation but you couldn't find it. Can you tell me which Loew Cornell brush you use for liquid foundation? Thanks, Jen

  • MAC is WAAY to overpriced... I know its a good brand and what not but still it is WAY to overpriced

  • @penguinluv11 idk

  • thnk u!!

  • Thank u for providing specifics and a great comparison video! One of the best gurus hands down!!

  • Gr8 info, thnx so much!

  • this is so helpfull

  • Omg! This is very helpfully! I just started using makeup and when I went to go buy some brushes I had to close my mouth! Lol they are so expensive, I will be using paint brushes.

  • so altogether about 1500 on brushed :/ j admire how you've got successful enough to afford that

  • 31 people need to stop acting so uppity and appreciate what EnKore is doing for all of us. He does NOT have to take his precious time (in which I and the other 2000+ people appriate) to tell us an alternative. He could be out making the people we adore fabulous. Don't be so ungrateful!

  • @ShesSoRoyal so true. Well said. Come on people stop being so ungrateful to him. This advice he's providing free of charge, he's doing all the leg work so we don't have to. How can you be so harsh and critical? Be thankful and appreciative of his work! Didn't your parents raise you to be grateful, well-mannered individuals?

  • thank you!!! :)

  • thanks this video helped

  • you are AWESOME!!! :D thank you SO MUCH!!

  • thank you thank you thank you THANK YOU! for making this video!

  • i wish i can like this vdo a 1000000X!!!!! i hate utube sometimes because this vdo is so helpful!

  • i love this comparison. i am new to make up and brushes. i do think mac brushes are abs. ridiculously expensive. i can never afford them. =((( I can not look into my micheal's craft store for these Loew Cornell brushes!:))) thanks Enkore! u're the best!

  • 31 people are jealous of encore's knowledge.

  • WOW, this is amazing! Thank you for the info!

  • Thank you for this video, I think that many people would love to hear this information.

After watching this I just had to do a little counting.

If you wanted to buy all those brushes, MAC or painting, buying the MAC ones would cost 271 dollars. In my opinion that's quite a lot of money. But if you bought the painting brushes, it would cost you 60 dollars (59,9 actually). 211,1 dollar save is pretty much if you can get the same result.

  • Thank you Koren! I thought it was just me. I recently bought some brushes at the crafts store and I was talking to some girls about it and they acted a bit hostile about it. Don't take me wrong, I still treasure dearly my just starting collection, but some of them, like the eyeliner brush, for $20 versus $2, one might wonder.

  • thanks for sharing enkore... its so great for me to know that i can use craft brushes for applying make up, it is really hard for me to spend so much money for mac brushes....

  • so informative. love it!!! thanks a bunch!

  • OMG! Thanks for sharing. You are awesome and a BIG help:)

  • i SO LOVE THIS GUY! I'm so happy that he did the comparison.

  • wow..I should get the paint brushes too if it's soft to the skin.. nice sharing.. especially for someone who wants to save more money.. :D

  • This video was so helpful. Thanks a lot!

  • what size for liner??

  • OMG I feel so...cheated. I have quite a few MAC brushes but some of them I think I wouldn't have minded having a cheaper alternative.

  • So if you decide to go the paintbrush route can you use brush cleaner from MAC on the paint brushes or what should you use to take care of them?

  • okay so which one would be good for my 120 bh cosmetic matte 1st edition palette ?

  • ECOTOOLS AND BARE ESCENTUALS brushes are great and cheap also. I love them and the cute cases they comes with.

  • CAN you just post complete list of the loell cornell brushes and their equiv????

  • ew. paint brushes are for PAINTING.... pretty sure that there are finishes on the fibers and tephlon coatings on most of the natural hair of the paint brushes that are NOT good for or made for the face. just saying.

  • @oORockMyHoleOo don't knock it till you try it!!! I use paint brushes for my makeup all the time, I found that they work sometimes better than real makeup brushes.

  • @oORockMyHoleOo actually, paint brushes and makeup brushes are EXACTLY the same.

  • HELL YEAH I'M IN COLLEGE LOL. thanks!!! :D

  • I love you Koren! thanks for helping me save money :0)

  • thanks soooo much you are so helpful - been watching your vids for an hour and still not bored!!!!

  • Thanks for the 411. I'm definitely a diva on a budget. Ofter wondered if I could use craft store brushes instead of make-up brushes. Thanks again.

  • i love videos like these. not every tool and piece of makeup has to be high end. alot of times AC Moore has these 30-40% off and if you really want a deal in my sunday paper they run special coupons 50% off one item!! so check it out you can buy a set for what MAC charges for one brush

  • Well I'll buy two of each craft brush, since I'm also an artist. Who knew artists and makeup artists could use the SAME brushes? This makes the MACs look pathetic in a sense...

  • Hmmmm..... would I rather spend $59.90, or $333.00? SUCH a difficult question.

  • omgosh this is seriously soo amazing kan i get the paint brushes at walmart?

  • thsi video is amazing thanx 4 your time koren!!! :)

  • how does it compare with sigma brushes?

  • Man, Sephora must LOOOOOVE you! lol That was fantastic info!!! THANK YOU!

  • Man, Sephora must LOOOOOVE you! lol

  • woah, you must of spent 500- 1,00 dollars alone on MAC brushes

  • yes, i am a college student! yes i do want nice brushes! lol thanks!

  • MAC brushes are over rated and ove priced anyway.

  • thats a shame !!! MAC just got out done by PAINT BRUSHES

  • i got a simply simmons 1/4 angled shader and its work in my opinion BETTER than the mac 266

  • awesome thanks

  • Can you tell, is all brushes for make up need to be natural, i mean better to have?

  • do you have this in writting? it would be nice :D

    Useful info!

  • elf is even better, there like, $1.00 for all their brushes, and its really good quality, i still have mine from a year ago, i love em so much.(:

  • thank you so much! youre so helpful

  • wow this is a great video! thank you so much for posting this i will totally buy these brushes next time i go to the craft store! i was shocked when i saw how similar these brushes are to the mac ones. almost identical!

  • What's the title of the music you used for the intro?

  • You are brilliant. LOL

  • And to think I go to the art store regularly and I never even thought of using those gorgeous paint brushes for makeup. Thanks for the idea and sharing your knowledge

  • Hi Enkore, some weeks ago I saw a video of yours where you shown how to make a lipgloss. You also filled a lipgloss container with your 'potion'...I wonder if it was a new container or an old one. if so, how do you open it? thanks a lot

  • Oh my god I love you enkore! TIME FOR A TRIP TO THE ART STORE!!!!

  • you are ammmmmmaaaazziiinng :D !!!

  • I think I love you!

  • WOW! You saved me again!

  • would you say there are any craft store brushes that are comparable to a kabuki brush?

  • WOW, who knew an ordinary craft store could be a substitute for the mac counter?

I even picked up a flesh toned acrylic paint, it pretty much gives me the same finish as MAC's studio fix fluid foundation, only difference is its a little harder to remove - so I also picked up a regular solvent paint stripper. Bargain!

  • @CuppaTea4Me My word, your skin is either made out of steel or you don't realize the damage you're causing your skin with acrylic paint clogging your pores AND using paint solvent; I really don't get why you think it's such a great idea.

  • @StratfordOnGirl I'm pretty sure CuppaTea4Me was kidding. :P Just so you don'g wait up worryin' about them. I also think it was pretty funny. :P

I'm a special FX make up artist (as a hobbyist) and I am never surprised by what people in the trade are willing to put on their face. I've got sensitive skin, so I always prefer to make my own face paints but...I'm SURE someone out there is using paint remover on their skin. XD The world is a funny place.

  • @CuppaTea4Me I hope you're being sarcastic <:(

But if you're not, as long as the brushes are made of the same fibers and are the same measurements, they're great dupes. Like he said, they're highly regarded in the art community, and MAC brushes are basically paint brushes for the canvas of the face, so for people on a budget, there's nothing to lose.

  • you never said what kind of brush from loew cornelle was a dupe for 129 what's the size?

  • Thank you so much for doing this video. I wished I had seen this before I ordered my Mac brushes last week on ebay. I still think I got a pretty good deal, however, I will consider this when I need to purchase more. By the way, how many sets of brushes should I have for my own personal use?

  • Thank you so much for this video!

You answered all my questions. Apparently you are the only one on youtube who compared these brushes. I was also thinking of using painting brushes but I could never get a hand on them. Sounds really reasonable!

  • this was so helpful to me, thankyou!

  • Do you REALLY like these Loew Cornell brushes, or are you just showing us alternatives to use besides MAC.

  • thank you for this koren

  • ahhh, exactly what i was looking for!! thank you so much for this vid and your opinions! :]

  • Great tips on the brushes...thanks so much for this video! Very informative and never even thought about using regular paint brushes!

  • i went to the crafts store today and picked up some the paint brushes you recommended. i loooove the maxine's mop brushes! unfortunately the xxl and large mop brushes were just too rough for my liking, which i was kind of bummed out about because i really wanted a powder brush. thank you koren for the alternatives!

  • @muichih If the brush is too rough, try dipping the tips of the brush into olive oil and let it sit overnight, then take the brush and swish the excess off on a napkin. That should make it softer to the touch. Good way to clean your brushes too.

  • Do u have any bobbi brown brushes

  • woah it sounds ridiculous to pay more than $60 for a brush i mean even $19 seems like a lot

  • would the loew cornell 1/4 mop brush work like a MAC 239? or would you reccomend the 3/8 better? thanks (:

  • Getting my car keys and going to Michael's with my list of brushes i need to buy lol love you enkore!

  • thank you!!!! :)

  • Thank you for this post!!! I can't wait to go to Michael's tomorrow!

  • The store AC Moore is having a 40% sale on Loew-Cornell brushes starting this Sunday August 29, 2010.

  • what was the name of the loew cornelle that dupes the 129?

  • Awesome!!!! Thanks so much!!

  • do you know if there is a pencil/smudger brush from loew cornell? thanks

  • $62 for a brush!

  • just curious, is there an LC version of the MAC 187?

  • Thanks a lot!!! I am building a brush collection and can't afford all the MAC brushes, this really helps! Now I can use the art brushes and replace them with MAC ones as they wear out

  • Comment removed

  • what a helpful video!!!!!!!!

  • This video changed my life, lol! I have been using art brushes for years now and have turned my friends on to the same idea :) Thank you!

  • thank you so much for posting this up! .. i just recently found ur video hehe..

i've always wanted to use my paint brushes but i was doubting it and i was really shy . thanx for making this a review! =D
