Great video I was just at the craft store and noticed the paint brushes and felt how soft and comparable they were to makeup brushes Now I know I can use them for that yay :)
omg you are like my angel. i go to school and wanted quality brushes but for cheap. i dont like it when the strings come out the brushes so i was like i am going to HAVE to get MAC but now i don't
Also a great brand not expensive is REAL TECHNIQUE they are so nice and cheap the best is they are cruelty free they are synthetic try them they are at ulta and amazons

Wow this was really interesting I was looking for the name of a specific Mac brush I wanted and some tips and absolutely never thought about paint brushes. And I shop at michaels ALOT!! Thx for the tips!! Defently would love to see more
hey, whats a dupe for the mac 217 i want that brush so bad cause i heard so many great things about it, but if i can find something for half the price or less i would much rather get it if it does the same job.
hey koren i have a question, can u use eyshadow brushes also as like a concealer brush or a lip brush???because i have an elf brush and it says its a concealer brush but its so small i could use it as a lip brush
Thank you very much for taking the time to make this vid! I'm a new Bare Escentuals customer & am starting to build my makeup & brush collection. I've heard both MAC & Bare Escentuals brushes- but was looking for comparable cheaper alternatives. I'm going to check out Michael's before I buy any more brushes, since watching this!! Thanks again!! :)
This is really helpful. I bought a 1/4 Loew-Cornell Maxine mop brush for general application of eyeshadow and a Simply Simmons 1/8 angle shader for eyeliner. They didn't disappoint :)
On this day, 4yrs ago this video helped a college girl who had just started out with makeup and wanted to be beautiful without going broke. Today it is still helping young women on a budget. Amazing.
Did I get a bad xxl round mop brush, or is it supposed to be that way! Please let me know and thanks! By the way I spent about $48 dollars on all my brushes and I am so happy with them! I could only buy about 1-2 MAC brushes with $48 bucks. Your video was so inspiring...you saved me so much money...thanks sooooo much Enkore! XOXO
I just ordered about 8-10 Loew Cornell brushes off a website called Hofcraft.com (great website btw, live in WI and got my brushes in about 3 days). Anyways I ordered the XXL Loew-Cornell Round Mop Brush (#277) and the hairs fall out of it like crazy..kinda disappointed. On the website it says that these round mop brushes are made out of black goat hair. I ordered the 1/4, 3/8, and 1 inch maxine mop brushes (made of of white goat hair) and the hairs don't fall out of those.
i once bough crayola brush sets just for to paint but i have one that looked like an angled eyeliner brush and i use it for my eyes and its amazinggg<3
THANK YOU for making this video!!!! Really great to get a professional's opinion on MAC alternatives! You definately have more credibility than a random teenage girl who just likes playing around with makeup for fun.
Thank you sooooo much!!!! This helped me out a lot!!! You are the best! Much respect and hope you keep it going with your videos! I love them all! Maraming salamat po!
I use my Ecotools and Real Techniques brushes (and a random one I got at TJ Maxx lol) and altogether, they probably cost me $35 altogether (I have about 10-15 brushes). I can honestly say I haven't had a single problem with them and I couldn't imagine paying the crazy amounts that some people do for brushes. Save your money, buy EnKore's suggestions or a set of the brushes I mentioned, and spend it on actual makeup.
heeeill yeah i wanna save money! i LOVE mac but im not coughing up that much for freakin brushes with three fancy letters on em. thankss, but no thanks haha.
thank you sooo much for this video!!!! offf to Michale's!!! =D
I love this video i always am looking at brushes but not mac but they r still pricey but not as good of a quality and now i have some gr8 advice now thx i will have to get some of those!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Omg! Last time i was at michaels i started to wonder if paint brushes would work for makeup, but i wasnt sure so i didnt purchase any. Thank you soo much for this video! So helpful. :)
Loved loved this. At the end of the video you were about to talk about the Lowe Cornell brush you use for foundation but you couldn't find it. Can you tell me which Loew Cornell brush you use for liquid foundation? Thanks, Jen
Omg! This is very helpfully! I just started using makeup and when I went to go buy some brushes I had to close my mouth! Lol they are so expensive, I will be using paint brushes.
31 people need to stop acting so uppity and appreciate what EnKore is doing for all of us. He does NOT have to take his precious time (in which I and the other 2000+ people appriate) to tell us an alternative. He could be out making the people we adore fabulous. Don't be so ungrateful!
@ShesSoRoyal so true. Well said. Come on people stop being so ungrateful to him. This advice he's providing free of charge, he's doing all the leg work so we don't have to. How can you be so harsh and critical? Be thankful and appreciative of his work! Didn't your parents raise you to be grateful, well-mannered individuals?
i love this comparison. i am new to make up and brushes. i do think mac brushes are abs. ridiculously expensive. i can never afford them. =((( I can not look into my micheal's craft store for these Loew Cornell brushes!:))) thanks Enkore! u're the best!
Thank you for this video, I think that many people would love to hear this information.
After watching this I just had to do a little counting.
If you wanted to buy all those brushes, MAC or painting, buying the MAC ones would cost 271 dollars. In my opinion that's quite a lot of money. But if you bought the painting brushes, it would cost you 60 dollars (59,9 actually). 211,1 dollar save is pretty much if you can get the same result.
Thank you Koren! I thought it was just me. I recently bought some brushes at the crafts store and I was talking to some girls about it and they acted a bit hostile about it. Don't take me wrong, I still treasure dearly my just starting collection, but some of them, like the eyeliner brush, for $20 versus $2, one might wonder.
thanks for sharing enkore... its so great for me to know that i can use craft brushes for applying make up, it is really hard for me to spend so much money for mac brushes....
ew. paint brushes are for PAINTING.... pretty sure that there are finishes on the fibers and tephlon coatings on most of the natural hair of the paint brushes that are NOT good for or made for the face. just saying.
@oORockMyHoleOo don't knock it till you try it!!! I use paint brushes for my makeup all the time, I found that they work sometimes better than real makeup brushes.
i love videos like these. not every tool and piece of makeup has to be high end. alot of times AC Moore has these 30-40% off and if you really want a deal in my sunday paper they run special coupons 50% off one item!! so check it out you can buy a set for what MAC charges for one brush
Well I'll buy two of each craft brush, since I'm also an artist. Who knew artists and makeup artists could use the SAME brushes? This makes the MACs look pathetic in a sense...
wow this is a great video! thank you so much for posting this i will totally buy these brushes next time i go to the craft store! i was shocked when i saw how similar these brushes are to the mac ones. almost identical!
And to think I go to the art store regularly and I never even thought of using those gorgeous paint brushes for makeup. Thanks for the idea and sharing your knowledge
Hi Enkore, some weeks ago I saw a video of yours where you shown how to make a lipgloss. You also filled a lipgloss container with your 'potion'...I wonder if it was a new container or an old one. if so, how do you open it? thanks a lot
WOW, who knew an ordinary craft store could be a substitute for the mac counter?
I even picked up a flesh toned acrylic paint, it pretty much gives me the same finish as MAC's studio fix fluid foundation, only difference is its a little harder to remove - so I also picked up a regular solvent paint stripper. Bargain!
@CuppaTea4Me My word, your skin is either made out of steel or you don't realize the damage you're causing your skin with acrylic paint clogging your pores AND using paint solvent; I really don't get why you think it's such a great idea.
@StratfordOnGirl I'm pretty sure CuppaTea4Me was kidding. :P Just so you don'g wait up worryin' about them. I also think it was pretty funny. :P
I'm a special FX make up artist (as a hobbyist) and I am never surprised by what people in the trade are willing to put on their face. I've got sensitive skin, so I always prefer to make my own face paints but...I'm SURE someone out there is using paint remover on their skin. XD The world is a funny place.
But if you're not, as long as the brushes are made of the same fibers and are the same measurements, they're great dupes. Like he said, they're highly regarded in the art community, and MAC brushes are basically paint brushes for the canvas of the face, so for people on a budget, there's nothing to lose.
Thank you so much for doing this video. I wished I had seen this before I ordered my Mac brushes last week on ebay. I still think I got a pretty good deal, however, I will consider this when I need to purchase more. By the way, how many sets of brushes should I have for my own personal use?
You answered all my questions. Apparently you are the only one on youtube who compared these brushes. I was also thinking of using painting brushes but I could never get a hand on them. Sounds really reasonable!
i went to the crafts store today and picked up some the paint brushes you recommended. i loooove the maxine's mop brushes! unfortunately the xxl and large mop brushes were just too rough for my liking, which i was kind of bummed out about because i really wanted a powder brush. thank you koren for the alternatives!
@muichih If the brush is too rough, try dipping the tips of the brush into olive oil and let it sit overnight, then take the brush and swish the excess off on a napkin. That should make it softer to the touch. Good way to clean your brushes too.
Thanks a lot!!! I am building a brush collection and can't afford all the MAC brushes, this really helps! Now I can use the art brushes and replace them with MAC ones as they wear out
hello Koren... I am a fan here in the Philippines... I would just like to know if you have an idea on where exactly I can buy Loew Cornell brushes here in Manila?
Great video I was just at the craft store and noticed the paint brushes and felt how soft and comparable they were to makeup brushes Now I know I can use them for that yay :)

And to think I go to the art store regularly and I never even thought of using those gorgeous paint brushes for makeup. Thanks for the idea and sharing your knowledge

Hi Enkore, some weeks ago I saw a video of yours where you shown how to make a lipgloss. You also filled a lipgloss container with your 'potion'...I wonder if it was a new container or an old one. if so, how do you open it? thanks a lot

would you say there are any craft store brushes that are comparable to a kabuki brush?
gracesbracesarefit 1 year ago
WOW, who knew an ordinary craft store could be a substitute for the mac counter?
I even picked up a flesh toned acrylic paint, it pretty much gives me the same finish as MAC's studio fix fluid foundation, only difference is its a little harder to remove - so I also picked up a regular solvent paint stripper. Bargain!
CuppaTea4Me 1 year ago
@CuppaTea4Me My word, your skin is either made out of steel or you don't realize the damage you're causing your skin with acrylic paint clogging your pores AND using paint solvent; I really don't get why you think it's such a great idea.
StratfordOnGirl 1 year ago
@StratfordOnGirl I'm pretty sure CuppaTea4Me was kidding. :P Just so you don'g wait up worryin' about them. I also think it was pretty funny. :P
I'm a special FX make up artist (as a hobbyist) and I am never surprised by what people in the trade are willing to put on their face. I've got sensitive skin, so I always prefer to make my own face paints but...I'm SURE someone out there is using paint remover on their skin. XD The world is a funny place.

@CuppaTea4Me I hope you're being sarcastic <:(
But if you're not, as long as the brushes are made of the same fibers and are the same measurements, they're great dupes. Like he said, they're highly regarded in the art community, and MAC brushes are basically paint brushes for the canvas of the face, so for people on a budget, there's nothing to lose.

you never said what kind of brush from loew cornelle was a dupe for 129 what's the size?

Thank you so much for doing this video. I wished I had seen this before I ordered my Mac brushes last week on ebay. I still think I got a pretty good deal, however, I will consider this when I need to purchase more. By the way, how many sets of brushes should I have for my own personal use?

Thank you so much for this video!
You answered all my questions. Apparently you are the only one on youtube who compared these brushes. I was also thinking of using painting brushes but I could never get a hand on them. Sounds really reasonable!

i went to the crafts store today and picked up some the paint brushes you recommended. i loooove the maxine's mop brushes! unfortunately the xxl and large mop brushes were just too rough for my liking, which i was kind of bummed out about because i really wanted a powder brush. thank you koren for the alternatives!
muichih 1 year ago
@muichih If the brush is too rough, try dipping the tips of the brush into olive oil and let it sit overnight, then take the brush and swish the excess off on a napkin. That should make it softer to the touch. Good way to clean your brushes too.
