  • What's the song called right in the beginning of the video? :) Thanks!

  • It`s weird. It`s like watching a documentary about yourself in a life you never lived with a beautiful wife i didn`t meet.

  • we love you FRANK

  • YES

  • love his quotes about humanity and his interpretation of bolero

  • all hail cockroaches and moss!

  • I like Franks take on "Bolero" around the 8:00 minute mark. His comments about people and God are a riot, and pretty spot on as well(Good humor always has an element of truth in it).Maybe we are just a mistake---a creature that somehow mutated and has too large a brain for its own good. ; . )

  • ZAPPA is right. the mafia is the mafia!!! whether it be the catholic church(aiding and abetting pediphiles), C.I.A.(wars and drugs), I.R.S.(with their "we r the enemy" premise), the bankers(again, "we r the enemy" premise), etc. These corrupt entities are all in the same ses-pool.

  • Frank aside, Ahmet is one WEIRD dude.

ICH BEWUNDERE IHN ÜBER ALLE GRENZEN BIS INS UNIVERSUM:...

  • ...so refreshing to see an articulate genius free from the torture of the creative burden...

    thanks uploader!

  • so true

  • ohhh myy god, i love him.

  • Thank you.

Is it available on one of Zappa's records?

  • A lot of wisdom from Frank once again.

Hm, does anyone know the title from the classical piece at the end (like the last 2/3 minutes)? It sounds incredible.

  • Bolero by Maurice Ravel

  • Truer words were nary spoken.

  • ok that was a mistype i meant 83 but even then i would have been wrong, dug up my "You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Volume 3" it was December 23rd 1984 in Los Angeles. Now that I have the correct information does anyone have video footage of this.

  • yes the song was on Chunga's Revenge and Them or Us, but I found the info of the when and where from the YCDTOSA 3 cd booklet. And I had to make sure I'm getting the one with Dweezil and Frank.

  • OK Zappa fans help me out here. On one of the "You can't do it on stage anymore" volumes Dweezil and Frank both solo/duet on sharleena and its amazing i have the album and all but is there a video of that out there as its something I'd love to see and have yet to find. it was in december 1973 in L.A if i remember the liner notes correctly so for any tapers out there please someone post it.

  • It was probably more like 1983 or more likely 1985 because the record is Them or Us and that record came out in 1984. Dweezil was 4 in 1973...

  • The 73 video from LA was probably from the roxy and elsewhere video. The sharleena jam with dweezil and frank was the only time they played together in 84.

  • papa zappa.

  • "If there is a God, he really fucked up when he made people." hahahahaha

  • man, his wife was hot back in the day.

  • totally agree!!

  • Can anyone please tell me the name of the Zappa-Score, from 4:27-4:48? Thanks, Matt

  • Strictly Genteel

  • Thanks man!

  • no problem

  • Bravo Frank. Thanks to the makers of this. RIP you genius. "Love of my Life". Gonna have to leave now before "Tears Began to Fall". There's a huge void to be filled, and there's no-one to fill it. XXX

  • "Bolero," composed by Maurice Ravel.

  • A reggae rendition of Ravel's Bolero.

  • which song? Sharleena?

  • Isn't Sharleena Tourette's Guy's wife? (RIP, TG)

  • "That a look at the people who've been Presidents of the United States so far. Could I do any worse? If I didn't know shit from shynola; Could I do any worse?" - I'm sure if he was elected, he would've made a positive impact during his reign. He's the most HONEST & REAL musician to ever live! Everyone else is just a fuckin' fake!!

  • Frank Zappa and Jimi Hendrix are the greatest musicians ever, the real geniuses.

  • your a nerd

  • You'RE an asshole.

  • yer momma, faggot

  • @franciscovaldevez FZ used to play on a Hendrix Strat. (The yellow one if I'm not wrong!) ^^

  • @ophone77 Of course he had to change the strings, to make it right-handed again.

  • One genius to another ... Vai's ad-lib @ 3:10 viz Uncle Frank is brilliant.

  • what;s the music at 4:40 ?

  • It's a piece called "Strictly Genteel" and comes from 200 Motels.

  • thanks

  • Andy Summers - I wanna be vicepresident... that fucking sarcastic idiot.

  • thanks do you know the concert or if its available on any of the broadway the hardway cds?

  • what song is that solo from around 1:07?

  • "Sharleena"

  • I really like Zappas version of Ravels Bolero, I have the version from Barcelona and also from Lund. 3/4 in reggae, nice!

  • My god! Are there no limits to the mans intelligence? Hearing him talk is almost frightening.

  • What on earth is Ahmet going on about??

  • The time Frank asked him to pull his finger. :P

  • pylgrym..you are an asshole. Are assholes allowed in christian heaven? If so...go there now. You've earned it.

  • Yeah, I'm sure he's being punished for all the beautiful music he created. Better to be a nobody on Earth so that one may gain entrance to the Kingdumb of Heavin...lol

  • how does it feel to be you, pylgrym, to be sick inside?

    see a doctor.

  • I SO miss him. There´s no one like him around today, I doubt there will ever be... One of the few who never confused show business with reality, yet fed both worlds with an incredible wealth of wisdom, knowledge and humor.

  • Part 4 is an incredible collection of information and music. Thank u for posting this whole doc.

  • 02:50 -Which Song it is ? Please help !

  • easy meat!

  • How is the narrator not a German speaker? He's Austrian, they pretty much speak German there.

  • "Failure is the basis of human nature" LOL! I have to remember this one.

After all, Zappa failed to treat his cancer....

  • he means you cant escape failure, it will happen, its part of life. There is perfection in the whole picture, which involves failures, with which there could not be a thing called success. He failed to treat his cancer, i would say whats your cancer? We all have something thats killing us. Peace!

  • And ur point is what arse hole?? Frank Zappa was a brilliant musician and of course a human being that fell to a nasty disease called cancer. Hope that you dont have to deal with a cancer form in your life eh FUCKWIT

  • Actually his doctors failed him. He was misdiagnosed - and when they finally caught it - it was too late. Zappa is not a guy that wanted to die - too bad - he was one of the greatest composers of our time and he would still be making great music today.

  • dude what Archmed zappa problem like what happend to him..?

  • "I'd work longer hours....and I'm awake." Great line about what he would do if president

  • Zappa is Mozart for a rock musician.

  • Nice comparison. I regard him as the Stravinsky of rock music

  • Mozart and Stravinsky wrapped into one..

  • Zappa is no Mozart. Mozart doesn't even come close to Zappa. Just listen to Sinister Footwear.

  • Sinister Footwear,an amazing composition.Sinister footwar on the you are what you is was a Zappa guitar solo that was then doubled by Steve Vai.

  • Which version on which album? There are two movements of Sinister Footwear and a lot of live variants.

  • what a guy.frank r.i.p.

  • The tune of reality with a political insight.

  • All rock musicians should have a belief in a (The) Creator. And imagine if only a small handful of Classical (Julliard trained) instrumentalists turned their talents to create the pure rock sound again! It would be a revolution ... again.

  • What was Achmed talking about? I heard what he said properly, I just don't get what he didn't want to talk about. And why did he talk about losing his virginity and "sucking on my prick"? I don't get that part.

  • His name is Ahmet (the titles are wrong), and he's describing mock psychic trauma suffered at his dad's hand (or part of his hand) via the "pull my finger" gag.

The gag entails a prankster asking a dupe to "pull my finger," and then passing gas--ideally loudly and profusely--at the moment the digit is tugged. Thus "rectal sphincter hell".

Ahmet's exaggerated claims of dimension-phasing make absurd sense, but by the time he gets to lost virginity & prick-sucking, he's jumped the rails. :-)

  • This 500-character limit for comments makes me crazy. To follow up on my exposition of the "pull my finger gag," see part 6 of this documentary for FZ's musical interpretation of the joke, expressed while conducting the Ensemble Modern in rehearsals for The Yellow Shark. Hilarious, even to Frank himself.

  • Yes, I saw all of the documentary's parts, and that musical recording of the "pull my finger" joke stands out in my memory. It was quite funny, even if it's somewhat base and crude humor. And the 500-character limit annoys me too - many a comment I have shortened due to it.

  • Just a weak attempt at trying to be funny & absurd.. Falling way short of his fathers natural talent.

  • although very charismatic and musically speaking a genius you gotta admit the guy seems an utter bitch

  • it's on many albums, at least on Lumpy Gravy, We're only in it... and Lost Episodes.

  • actually, "Take youre clothes off" is found on the "Lost Episodes" album, along with a lot of other weird stuff.

  • Zappa was a truly romantic, optimistic guy :)

  • Very cheerful, believed in the goodness of man. Always positive and happy....hehehe...

  • The composition playing during the "Papa Zappa" segment

    is called "Strictly Genteel".

  • snoopreg, The name of the song is "Take Your Clothes Off" and it's from the "Lumpy Gravy" album.

  • Thanks, although I don't want to sound like a broken record here, what song plays during the 'Papa Zappa' segment?

  • Its a few days after I saw it snoopreg so I may be thinking of a different part, but I believe that it's "Baby Snakes" off of Sheik Yerbouti. Fantastic song!

  • whoops, I was thinking of another video

  • What song was that playing during the smoking montage?

  • it was a live version of a song from were only in it for the money, sorry dont have the cd about.

  • @snoopreg

You've probably figured it out by now, it's an instrumental version of "Take Your Clothes Off When You Dance." This version is at the very end of the "Lumpy Gravy" record from 1968.

  • The human species... a dangerous monkey gone mad.
