At 1:25, he makes a magical sound of the guitar that I hadn't heard in anybody else's performance. Such a sonority makes a contrast in his performance that reveals the essence of this piece.
your a little slow....your watching a 360p Video of a Live concert and trying to Blame the lack of clarity on a Master because he didn't play the same tempo as the recording on the "Villa-Lobos Collection" cd you bought off Amazon. stfu.
@CaioCamargo86 e sao, so os brasileiros nao conhecem...Mundialmente falando, quando se fala em violao classico erudito, o primeiro nome que vem a cabeça de todos é Villa-Lobos
it's awesome but I think it's too fast breaking up the notes that should last a little longer for a nicer effect instead of a FAST effect, no one cares that you can play fast, only if it actually sounds the best when played fast which in my opinion is not in this song....
I really enjoyed this, though I would agree with many other comments: starts off too fast. Maybe increase the tempo in the major part, and the minor parts can be leading up to that. Great though! I've just started learning this.
Denis Azabagic is one of the best musicians I've ever heard of any instrument. I'm a very keen violinist but have been tempted to take up the guitar since listening to this absolute musical genius. Inspirational!
A very effective performance indeed, but suffers from the curse of contemporary guitar, he puts all the weight on the perfection of technique and somehow forget that plays music, I think that those two must go on together for some more touching melody.
it really sounds great but played way too fast especially the beginning! the beginning and the middle part are in the same pace in the sheet it says "Piu mosso" at the beginning of the middle part which means faster but still its as fast as the beginning because you cannot play the middle part so fast...
people tend to exaggerate at the beginning part.
but well.. just another interpretation of this great piece i guess.. but still its great! and a good quality
Tempo should be chosen according the accoustics, too: if there is more echo, the more time should be given to the sounds to start live before the next sounds. On fast tempos the effect of masterful technicue may just dissappear when you cannot here what a virtuoso is playing. Deep feelings, big art, cannot be easily brought out in a room with a long echo if you play too quickly. The player hears everything better by himself than the audience - sometimes it's difficult to weigh this.
Absolutly nailed, played alot faster than from other versions I have watched and also alot faster than I play it, but the tone was fantastic! Great stuff, inspiring :)
There's just no way you can watch this and not love what the guy has done with this piece. Musical beyond belief. Amazing tone and some shocking moments of beauty.
I find it stupid to say that another person should play something in another way. This person plays it the way he likes it and if you don't like it, play it in your own way. The more interpretations the better :)
If you drive by a forest quickly do you appreciate it more than if you get out and walk and take it in with the details and smells & sounds...all it can offer?
I find the playing here too macho...Brasilian Music for me is better played in a sensuous way. He just sort of bulldozes the forest over.
I think he is catching the most fundamental basis of structure. If you see each tree in too much detailed view, you cannot catch the overall shape of the forest.
I think he shows in which shape this Prelude is, with just the most important plots.
Crap .. this is subtitled as a "Hommage to a boy who returns home" (or something like that) - don't you think that boy is exaggerated to come home and can't wait?
I think he is playing it great. This piece is also so good that you can interpret it both slow or fast; he opts for fast version and I think he is doing it good.
I agree, Rexicano. In a lot of Azabagic's playing, it would be nice if he didn't rush so many of the passages. It just takes away so much from the listening pleasure.
I don't think he's rushing. A prelude is exploratory, like a caprice, so he's letting the melody lead the development. He phrases accordingly, very long, letting his legato (and tempo) connect the large-gapped line.
Notice he lets the melody linger slightly longer on key harmonic points. This exposes the large scale structures within the piece.
then it means you dont know, doesnt mean there arent. if you look at how he played Barrios's La Catedral then you know how much he knows guitar, and i dont argue, sorry wrong person
This guy is talking about how this guy doesn't do much for the tonality and articulation of the piece. It is true, there is a different dynamic to classical guitar that people just don't have a grasp on. But we're used to people ridiculing that which they don't understand.

An exciting and passionate performance. I know this piece intimately from playing it myself for years, but Azbagic makes it sound fresh.

Well spotted! This piece is very philosophical and in order to catch the very essence of music, the performer needs to slow down a bit.

Technically awesome, though.
