These other singers are mere wannabe's. Not even close to the range of Perry.Of course, in all fairness, Perry is now 61 and he might not be close to where he used to be(we'll never know unless he decides to record again) either way he will never sing with Journey again (unless they do some kind of "Hell Freezes Over" tour and that is highly unlikely. Either way, it would be nice to see him do some sort of material just to see if he still has it.

@rjtimes Steve Perry was ousted in 98 because he had a degenerative bone disease in 1996 and postponed their comeback tour. But the band waited 18 months for Perry to return but he couldn't cause of the bone disease and he was replaced with Augeri.

It's not about comparing Steve Perry with other singers who sing his songs...It's about whether or not that singer sings the song well...In this case, I think this guy does.
Augeri is a god. I saw him with Journey in 2002, and was damn near perfect. His voice is very close to Perry, but I think its a bit smoother. He doesn't quite have the highest notes, but in concert very few singers due.
This is from a DVD, there was some post production but its pretty true to what I heard live.
I love Steve Perry, but Journey can still be Journey without him, i think this guy is a damn good replacement for Perry, and in my opinion he has the same, but slightly softer voice as Steve.

No, Arnel Pinada is not Steve Perry. No one is, when Steve left there was no hope of him ever being exactly duplicated. Arnel is an amazing vocalist, and the closest possible to the impossible task of replacing Steve. Arnel nails the same notes, and while he doesn't sing the exact same, he sings uniquely and accurately.
Arnel can't hit the notes like Steve Perry or even Steve Augeri. I've seen way too many performances with Arnel Pineda and is voices cracks like a school boy going through puberty. I recall the Super Bowl XLIII and he sounded horrible (and no it wasn't a equipment malfunction, it was his voice showing it's weaknesses.
he sounds a lot like steve.. not quite as good obviously but close.. no ones ever as good as the origionals... but honestly guys that guy sounds a lot like perry and u know it.. its not his fault he was born with a great voice that sounds like steves... im sure he still appreciates perry.. i mean this is music its all about coming together

Augeri is a god. I saw him with Journey in 2002, and was damn near perfect. His voice is very close to Perry, but I think its a bit smoother. He doesn't quite have the highest notes, but in concert very few singers due.
This is from a DVD, there was some post production but its pretty true to what I heard live.

I love Steve Perry, but Journey can still be Journey without him, i think this guy is a damn good replacement for Perry, and in my opinion he has the same, but slightly softer voice as Steve.

@brissima I thought he did sing new song in Journey new revelation. Neil mention something in Ellen show they added the new song in their new album, you have to buy the album to hear it. Journey Band own the right to play their song. Steve P has left the band....and so as the others Journey lead singers. It is show business they have to find somebody!

No, Arnel Pinada is not Steve Perry. No one is, when Steve left there was no hope of him ever being exactly duplicated. Arnel is an amazing vocalist, and the closest possible to the impossible task of replacing Steve. Arnel nails the same notes, and while he doesn't sing the exact same, he sings uniquely and accurately.

Arnel can't hit the notes like Steve Perry or even Steve Augeri. I've seen way too many performances with Arnel Pineda and is voices cracks like a school boy going through puberty. I recall the Super Bowl XLIII and he sounded horrible (and no it wasn't a equipment malfunction, it was his voice showing it's weaknesses.

arnel never copied steve's voice. its his natural voice but the similarity is just coincidence. i noticed though that arnel can get higher notes than steve. both are great singers!
