@bethbags Thank you for your heartfelt comment. Mujadara is also very nutritious, We usually serve mujadara as you said with plain yogurt or refreshing yogurt drink (tan). Mujadara is also served with green salad or simply with dry or green onion. Enjoy! Mariette
@erikafigueroadavila No, after cooking the brown lentil as demonstrated in mujadara video, measure the lentil liquid according to the type of rice you plan to use.For example: Two cups liquid for long grain rice, less liquid should be used for round grain or short grain rice. Follow the instruction given on the rice package. Thank you for watching the mujadara recipe video and we would like to hear from you. Please do share your experience with us.
@jazzfnnybnny12 Funny how we never forget what and how our mother cooked our preferred meals! The secret to a perfect mujadara, my mother used to say, (and she was a great cook) is to measure the lentil liquid to cook the bulgur or rice with iand if the lentil liquid is not enough add water to reach the liquid required. And of course the browned onion plays a big roll too. Mixed some with the mujadara and serve the rest on side. Enjoy!
@SmallWorldFilms You're most welcome. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. What did you serve it with? Although Moujadara can be served alone, it is traditionally served with the refreshing yogurt drink and, or, tomato salad. You can also serve all kind of pickles with moujadara or fresh green onions and fresh bell pepper.
@Thejandropandro I used # 1 bulgur. I am glad You are going to give a try to this delicious and healthy recipe. Moujadara is one of our preferred pilaf. We like it served with refreshing yogurt drink, Or tomato salad (you can find the recipes on our website or on our channel on you tube) You can also serve moujadara With pickles of all kind and radishes. Share your experience with us. We would love to hear from you. Enjoy!
@kbkushalutube You're welcome. Yes you cam substitute bulgur with rice and adjust the measuerment of the liquid according to the type of rice you're going to use. If long grain rice is used the measurement is same as bulgur. Share your experience with me. Let me know about the result and don't hesitate to ask any question you may have. I will be glad to help.
Thanks a lot for the recipe. I tried it with long grain rice and it turned out really well! I think I shall start cooking it regularly, and increase the proportion of onion!
@no2jedis I have added cumin to Mujadara before but I have never tried it with dried mustard. i will give it a try next time I cook Mujadara. Thanks for sharing.
@xxunique18 Seasoning is of course what you want the end result to taste like. Traditionally Mujadara is cooked without cumin or cinnamon. I have tried it with cumin and liked it, but I have not tried to cook this recipe with cinnamon. Let me know about the result. I would love to hear from you.
Hi, I cook this dish quite often. It's very tasty and healty. While boiling the lentils try adding some dried mint, a couple of bay leaves(you take them out before you drain the lentils) and a little sliced garlic. It makes it taste a lot better and richer.Kisses From Greece.
@catlovergal Thank you. I always use # 4 bulgur for moujadara or when I make bulgur pilaf. Bulgur # 2 will not work for this dish. If you have bulgur #3 you can use it, but reduce the liquid so the moujadara doesn't become soft and soggy.
@HowToExpo Thanx for that tip! I don't normally cook with Bulgar but it's never too late to start :) By the way, you have it down on the list of your recipe to use #2 Bulgar for this dish...you may want to change or update your info...that in itself kind of confused me. Other than that.....everything else was explained perfectly!
I have only seen it made with Rice. I will try this version. I love the host. She is great. I think I heard a dog barking in the back ground. That was really nice.
This looks great...How long do you cook the lentils and pilaf ? As well, is the heat on low or medium while cooking...These tidbits would helpful and greatly appreciated for the novice...
I've never tried this dish before so I have nothing to judge it against, but I can't complain about the result. I followed along step-by-step, and it came out very well, despite my complete lack of familiarity with nearly all of the ingredients, thanks to this great video.
Thank you for posting....a dish from my childhood that I still love--one of my "comfort foods". Eat it with plain yogurt of sour cream. Soooooo good

hi, trying your recipe for Mujadara for the first time, what are your thoughts for adding cumin and cinammon, or is it not needed?
xxunique18 8 months ago
@xxunique18 Adding cumin maybe, but I don't suggest you add cinnamon
to mujaddara. Let me know what was the result and if you used cumin or cinammon or both. We would like to hear from you.
