That's a pretty good video. I'm encouraged. I've always thought that I was crazy because I tend to bite off more than I chew. Some contributing factors to success are persistence and originality. Many successful people are also religious, military affiliated, and have a college education. As someone who wants to be a military chaplain and maybe a counselor, college professor or full-time pastor, later, those are some good success traits!
Great advice. Parents try to overprotect their kids too much. Someone told me the best thing a parent can say as their kid's going off to school is "Make lots of mistakes!". Btw, you have gorgeous lips.
yes good advice...all the money books ive read always say give 10% of your money away,
give to get back, but has to be done in a unconditional way..the thing is people are always 10% away from what they think they should have..no matter how much they have.its a hard thing to do, you would have to go without something in order to do it....but who does that..no many
great advice. one of the things i do is listen to all points of view. older people are great sources of info. but also people outside a certain field or people new to the field can have fantastic ideas because they arent stuck on the same paradigms as seasoned professionals.

The idea of Success made a lot of sense in my 20s, a little more in my 30s, some less in my 40s, a lot less in my 50s. Now, I think your best advice here is to listen to those older than you.
The Old Man Speaks:
Your definition of success determine a lot. I would say first, you have to understand what that word means to you. Then you can go on to achieving it. Having said that, a healthy relationship with success means being able to put all the pieces back in the box....at the end of the game.
And for all you women out there, don't ever date this guy, he will pretend he's such a nice decent guy, but instead he has a second agenda, he's very insecure as a man and he needs to mess up women's lives. This guy is a f... moron, he's acting like he's all that great, but this guy is not only a criminal, he's very sick too. He stole a lot of money using 10 creditcards, the banks and IRS are after him big time and now he's trying to sell his house which is under a trust cause he's getting scared. This guy is a criminal first class so don't think he's all so good, he may know how to invest on the market, but he plays an unfair game.
Thomas Edison taught us how important failure is. It took him approximately 10,000 experiments to invent the perfect set-up for the electric light bulb. Feedback then adjust. When A pilot flies to Europe his course is a straight line. But his journey involves 'course correction' You constantly criss-cross the line you are supposed to follow, never following it exactly. If someone says they have never failed they've probably never tried much in life. Have U ever read 'Think & Grow Rich'?

@nld1960 Our debt has now surpassed $13T & will soon be $14T to 100%GDP. After that it will go into a debt super cycle. This debt does not include Freddie/Fannies debt of $6.3T. So the real debt is now $19.3T. This does not include $60T of unfunded liabilities such as SS, Medicare, etc. This brings our total obligations to $79.3T or about 5.5 times our GDP. Our consumer spending is 71% of our GDP. It is impossible for the US to ever pay this massive debt through taxation or any other way.
this video would be a good self helpy sorta video if it went beyond the preemptive actions of being successful. all great information to almost be good at something.
Lorax2013... You said more in 3 1/2 minutes than my shrink told me in six months! Thanks for the excellent video and it's obvious you've helped others too!
its a shame people aren't truthful and are always beating around the bush, I find people should be more straight to the point and be honest. Its how I've improved and the way I like it. For the record, I'm not afraid of being corrected. Secondly, I stand corrected that I believe we should all share and help each other improve instead of being self.

Some religious authorities do their best to think for people! So, if 80-85% of the people in the USA are religious, what's that say about Americans ability to think for themselves? In proverbs the bible says, "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding!" Another short ver. is "Take therefore no thought for the morrow!" WHAT'S KIND OF MESSAGE IS THIS??!! Get real christians, STOP BEING SHEEP IN A PASTURE and try living in reality for a change! (continued)
Stop paying your preachers to think for you and THINK FOR YOURSELVES FOR A CHANGE! You may be pleasantly surprised with your new perspective on life!
Great video (sorry I see nothing to criticize)! We, in fact, learn from our errors not from that which we already know. Everyone must be encouraged to acknowledge and accept their errors in order for them to learn from the errors.
that was a timely useful video. you helped me help a couple of young teens. listening to your explanation helped back up what I tried to teach them. Failure is a stepping stone and criticism is useful as a tool for self improvement. Thanks, Ramona
may your karma be reflected and your love rewarded.
I think when everybody starts thinking about everything they do, before they do it, there would be a lot less trouble in the world. Seriously, try to take some time before you anwser sometimes, don't auto-respond. Try to break all your paterns, as they take the joy out of new experiences, and make yourself live everyday like a NEW day. Not the same as the 4 days before! And do follow your positive idears, unless your a mental patient, and just be happy!
is how capitalism works on a fundamental level. and, while for mr. lorax here, it might be a reliable personal indicator, for many "positive emotion following" is just a way we limit ourselves by avoiding real problems that exist within ourselves. Go to any of the rising number of rehab centers across america and ask the people what the results are of "following positive emotion".
thanks again for all the great vids. my father was just dignosed with esophageal cancer
and would LOVE to hear your opinion in b-17 laetril. specifically by way of apricot seeds. I am very confused about the truth on this topic. thanks again
should i stay at a high-paying job working very long hours and being bombarded by stress-inducing negative comments if succeeding at the job will bring little satisfaction because i have no interest in the job other than that it's high-paying, or should i quit and do another job which pays about 1/10 as much but guarantees two days off a week and is enjoyable enough that i would do it for free anyway since it doesn't feel like 'work' at all?
I think I learned more in college from working at the alumni foundation and talking to professionals and old people than reading textbooks and taking multiple choice tests. lately Ive been learning more on youtube and from nature than following conventional wisdom and group think taught by institutions bound by collectivism and pure rationality instead of intuition and creative thinking that fosters critical thinking skills. In other words think for yourself and live a life of no regrets!
cool vid. you've probably given this info before but could you give us a list of very useful books to pick up? (I've read you recommend How I found freedom in an unfree world). Do you have more? :)
Being succesful is not necessary at all. Nobody really succeeds in life because everybody gets old so fast and dies. That's why nobody listens to old people. When you are old, success doesn't even matter. You are still old, sick and soon to be dead.
I prefer the idea of living beyond failure/success dichotomy.
You can only succeed or fail if you create goals. Failure is mostly a human creation. Can you imagine a tree or a bird failing? Or clouds, winds, oceans failing? Human beings created the stupid idea of "goals", then they collect failures/success, like a pendulum.
No goals, no failures. No expectations... no disappointments, that's much more in tune with Nature, and we are part of it.
@sunamori6765 So the male ram who just lost a battle to another more alpha male in order to get the goal (alpha female) does not feel a sense of failure?
By taking such a naturalistic approach you're assuming that the basic flow of nature is all that matters. From that view, we came from nature and we feel positive emotions when we accomplish goals set for ourselves, spend time with our families, improve our surrounding environments/communities, and do those things we associated with the word "success". We're simply acting on nature's gifts (of course, I feel it goes beyond this and we carry responsibility too).
I also find it it funny how you use a pendulum as an example of something that goes against nature. You can find a natural ebb and flow in nearly every aspect of nature. On a simpler level, a pendulum just obeys the natural laws of the universe in its' simple harmonic motion via its interaction with gravity.
@lorax2013 Thank you, I read most of the books you recommended on your page and it has changed me for the better. I especially loved "How I found freedom in an unfree world". All your videos have been so helpful to me. Much appreciated!!!
@lorax2013 And for all you women out there, don't ever date this guy, he will pretend he's such a nice decent guy, but instead he has a second agenda, he's very insecure as a man and he needs to mess up women's lives. His game will take just as long as you'll let him. This guy is seriously sick, stay away from him.
One thing that helped me was to realize that "failure" is not a perpetual state of being, at all. The only way to fail "permanently" is to never get up again after you've fallen. The more you can shorten the time between falling and successfully getting back up, the more failures you can learn from/move beyond. You could have dozens in the same amount of time as one sloooow painful failure you refuse to deal with and get mired in. Ask me how I know... ;)
Absolutely awesome upload. People would be very well advised to take the suggestions here. When I was young I did care to spend all my time with my peers. The simple reason was that my peers gave me next to nothing in the way of wisdom, insight, learning, life lessons. It was always much older/mature people who gave me very very valuable lessons. To this day I treasure those lessons.
Excellent advice on chess for the young and seeking knowledge from older people about what to be careful of in life.
This may sound crazy but getting fired from my first job taught me how to not react to people who are giving me a hard time in the work place. Don't react immediately to any provocation - it almost always is in anger and ends up being a strategic mistake. Take in the info, put it at the back of your mind, process it later and decide what type of response it merits.
Words of wisdom. Thank you so much. As someone who is one course away from gradating with a technical diploma, I was not even able to get a single interview. However, your tips are motivating, and helpful. A lot of us are indebted to you.
@TheAstonMartian I hated my job. I KNEW I could do better. I quit in full awareness of the tight job market. I felt there is NO WAY I could not pull the rabbit out of the hate. I put on my best suit. I located every place that may need me. I blindly stumbled on a place who needed someone. They interviewed me right there. I now work for that company. 7% wage increase. I start to cross train MRI in a few weeks after demonstrating my superior xray skills. I KNEW I deserved better.
isn't there a standardized means of taking an x-ray i.e. put the guy in front of the xray machine, dial in the power or set some configuration and hit a button.
@orangedac Yes, that is how most techs will approach rendering an xray image. Yet most techs have no underpinning reason for radiation dose adjustment or positioning adaption. Do not take my word for it: Ask ANY medical imaging professional why the distance is square in the inverse square law. The vacant visage will tell you all you need to know.
@nepentheanYour story is very inspiring.I'm getting ready to move acrossthe country to make a new life for myself.I DON'T hate my life here,I just know it's time to move on.It's very scary but your story makes me feel less fearful. Thanks!
@nepenthean I understand what you are saying. I am not really interested in my field, but I can use the money. I don't even have a job to understand if I hate it, or not. Congratulations on your job. With me, I am not a professional, so my chances of being hired are even lower.
@TheAstonMartian Do not think you have lower chances. Are you male? If so, put on a NICE suit (women do most of the hiring, so they notice this shit), matching shoes, nice tie, matching belt. Present yourself in a professional way even though you may not be in a 'profession', so to speak. Introduce yourself to the hiring manager, speak with them if they have time, and offer them your resume. They might not have an immediate opening, but your impression will land you the next opening.
@nepenthean You have to change your approach in this market. Those who sit idly by and fire off resumes via email without making a STUNNING first impression will likely find changeless unemployment. NOT ONE person I have spoken with who has had difficulty in finding a job (any job) has thought of making a STUNNING first impression. If you do not have ONE set of nice clothes, get them now. I cannot overstate how significant this is. I wish you the best!!!
@nepenthean Well, right now the oil and gas is kind of filled up. I have already emailed some professionals who were able to give me some leads, but could not do much themselves, even though they wanted. In this line of work, we need networking, and I lack that since I do not know any industrial professionals. I also gave my resume to an agency, but have no leads on that.
@orangedac Thank you. Still trying. This was my second time working with waste management for 11 days during stampede, and it is really a shame that some of us have to work hard, and clean garbage for money, while others take it for granted, get drunk, and litter all around. Best wishes to you too.
love you videos. would like to see you extend this topic - maybe talk about some of the things you've learnt from older people/ self help books etc. you could tell us about some of the mistakes you made. keep up the good work
Very wise to refer to classics. How many current best sellers do not last more than the time of a fad. For those inclined on the darker side of things, there is also a phenomenon called the self-helplessness industry, which does for the mind what fashion magazines do to impressionable people's self-esteem: it capitalizes on one's insecurities and has no real intention of helping one permanently address it (quite the opposite, the goal is to set one up for the next best solution, soon to come).
You're kindof like a human version of HAl, the computer in 2001.You're so reasoned and tonally well modulated in your speech, which has a very calming effect on the listener
Second : I agree with most of what you say, Particularly I dont think we use the elderly well enough in society. Some of the best and most inspiring people I have worked with are people in their 60s. They are focused and have an innate knowledge of 'how things work'.
I agree 100% about not to be affreide of failure. How yang you started to play chess? I started at 5, my grand pa had 2000 rating at that time,so I had a very good teacher.
Sean Underground defines success based on how popular he is and how much money he is generating.
He makes points about how it's possible for everyone to be well off. He obviously doesn't understand the fundamental error in making that assumption in our current system. It's not only not possible, but mathematically impossible for everyone to have a high standard of living in this system. He doesn't even seem to care how well off his "clients" are; just that they don't tell him "I can't afford it"
That's a pretty good video. I'm encouraged. I've always thought that I was crazy because I tend to bite off more than I chew. Some contributing factors to success are persistence and originality. its a shame people aren't truthful and are always beating around the bush, I find people should be more straight to the point and be honest.

(continued)

Great video (sorry I see nothing to criticize)! We, in fact, learn from our errors not from that which we already know. Everyone must be encouraged to acknowledge and accept their errors in order for them to learn from the errors.

Good video.

"following positive emotion"
is how capitalism works on a fundamental level. and, while for mr. lorax here, it might be a reliable personal indicator, for many "positive emotion following" is just a way we limit ourselves by avoiding real problems that exist within ourselves. Go to any of the rising number of rehab centers across america and ask the people what the results are of "following positive emotion".

okay old people:
should i stay at a high-paying job working very long hours and being bombarded by stress-inducing negative comments if succeeding at the job will bring little satisfaction because i have no interest in the job other than that it's high-paying, or should i quit and do another job which pays about 1/10 as much but guarantees two days off a week and is enjoyable enough that i would do it for free anyway since it doesn't feel like 'work' at all?
zppz 1 year ago
I think I learned more in college from working at the alumni foundation and talking to professionals and old people than reading textbooks and taking multiple choice tests. lately Ive been learning more on youtube and from nature than following conventional wisdom and group think taught by institutions bound by collectivism and pure rationality instead of intuition and creative thinking that fosters critical thinking skills. In other words think for yourself and live a life of no regrets!

Being succesful is not necessary at all. Nobody really succeeds in life because everybody gets old so fast and dies. That's why nobody listens to old people. When you are old, success doesn't even matter. You are still old, sick and soon to be dead.

Lorax said: "a wise person learn from his mistakes and a very wise person learns from the mistakes of others"...

The word "wise" doesn't belong to that sentence. It should be "clever" or "smart"...
A wise person lives BEYOND the concept of right/wrong, success/failure... simply put: he never fails.

And in this he has succeeded in achieving his desire, that being to live beyond immuring concepts of success/failure.
nepenthean 1 year ago
I prefer the idea of living beyond failure/success dichotomy.
You can only succeed or fail if you create goals. Failure is mostly a human creation. Can you imagine a tree or a bird failing? Or clouds, winds, oceans failing? Human beings created the stupid idea of "goals", then they collect failures/success, like a pendulum.
No goals, no failures. No expectations... no disappointments, that's much more in tune with Nature, and we are part of it.
sunamori6765 1 year ago
@sunamori6765 So the male ram who just lost a battle to another more alpha male in order to get the goal (alpha female) does not feel a sense of failure?
nepenthean 1 year ago
@sunamori6765
Very nicely put and these statements ARE profound.
I hope to live beyond Failure or success. Thank you for this idea.
budedees 1 year ago
@sunamori6765
By taking such a naturalistic approach you're assuming that the basic flow of nature is all that matters. From that view, we came from nature and we feel positive emotions when we accomplish goals set for ourselves, spend time with our families, improve our surrounding environments/communities, and do those things we associated with the word "success". We're simply acting on nature's gifts (of course, I feel it goes beyond this and we carry responsibility too).
david0aloha 1 year ago
@sunamori6765
I also find it it funny how you use a pendulum as an example of something that goes against nature. You can find a natural ebb and flow in nearly every aspect of nature. On a simpler level, a pendulum just obeys the natural laws of the universe in its' simple harmonic motion via its interaction with gravity.

I KNEW I deserved better.

isn't there a standardized means of taking an x-ray i.e. put the guy in front of the xray machine, dial in the power or set some configuration and hit a button.
orangedac 1 year ago
@orangedac Yes, that is how most techs will approach rendering an xray image. Yet most techs have no underpinning reason for radiation dose adjustment or positioning adaption. Do not take my word for it: Ask ANY medical imaging professional why the distance is square in the inverse square law. The vacant visage will tell you all you need to know.

@nepenthean I understand what you are saying. I am not really interested in my field, but I can use the money. I don't even have a job to understand if I hate it, or not. Congratulations on your job. With me, I am not a professional, so my chances of being hired are even lower.
TheAstonMartian 1 year ago
@TheAstonMartian Do not think you have lower chances. Are you male? If so, put on a NICE suit (women do most of the hiring, so they notice this shit), matching shoes, nice tie, matching belt. Present yourself in a professional way even though you may not be in a 'profession', so to speak. Introduce yourself to the hiring manager, speak with them if they have time, and offer them your resume. They might not have an immediate opening, but your impression will land you the next opening.
nepenthean 1 year ago
@nepenthean You have to change your approach in this market. Those who sit idly by and fire off resumes via email without making a STUNNING first impression will likely find changeless unemployment. NOT ONE person I have spoken with who has had difficulty in finding a job (any job) has thought of making a STUNNING first impression. If you do not have ONE set of nice clothes, get them now. I cannot overstate how significant this is. I wish you the best!!!
nepenthean 1 year ago
@nepenthean Well, right now the oil and gas is kind of filled up. I have already emailed some professionals who were able to give me some leads, but could not do much themselves, even though they wanted. In this line of work, we need networking, and I lack that since I do not know any industrial professionals. I also gave my resume to an agency, but have no leads on that.

He doesn't even seem to care how well off his "clients" are; just that they don't tell him "I can't afford it"
paradigm667 1 year ago
