  • Did you know that...when the police radar starts...you just have to go at max speed and in the center of the road, the police won´t catch you

  • activision remake please!!!

  • So this is Test Drive for the Atari 8bit?

  • @1xWertzui: (If we don't count in Top Drive which is currently under development...)

  • @Pajcus Este v jednej..Speed Run. /watch?v=NzZuO5gOPew

  • THIS was one of the greatest games ever made.

    How great?

Been playing it for almost 25 years and I'm still not bored with it.

  • kochalem ta gre :D

  • @szuvax

kurcze, pamietam! az sie lezka w oku kreci :]

  • I remember this great Game ... hours and hours gamplay with my friends. I Love it.

  • I really loved this game on the 800!

  • If you go max speed, you can actually pass by the patrol car and ascape it! That was my approach. Fantastic game. Spent hours playing it, gone to every city, in every driving condition. Amazing what a good progammer can do with 64 kilobytes of memory. Now people have gigs of memory, and they complain... What a shame

  • I remember the original full name: The great american cross country road race... AKA "American Race" in my Country

  • Wow its the M6 in rush hour!

  • The sounds reminds Enduro... :) I love it!

  • how many sleepless nights i wasted for that game haha

  • i spent hours and hours playing this game !!!!

  • This was one of my favorite racing games back in the day on my Atari 800. It combined the best elements of Pole Position and Pitstop, so there was quite a bit of strategy involved. You had to deal with weather elements, road construction, rush hour traffic, fuel, and of course, being pulled over for speeding!

Since you could choose the starting time of your race, if you planned it carefully you could avoid rush hour during important legs (usually the final one) and be in good standing.

  • Had this on my Commodore 64. Looks almost the same.

  • This game made me learn my left and right

  • one of atari's more insane games & one of my faves. U really felt a sense of accomplishment when u finally saw the city limits

  • This games owned. I swear I avoided one wreck later in life due to toning my driving reflexes from this game. Good memories :)

  • i wonder how they made this smoothly turning logo at beginning on slow 8bit and low memory computer?

  • it has 1.79 mhz thats not slow =P its the same as in the nes

  • I always thought that Rad Racer was heavily inspired by Out run... But it bears more resemblance to this one.

  • 'Tis the sequel to Enduro.

  • Much faster than the C64 version.

  • My favorite game of all time. Probably because I spent so many hours playing it.

  • Try playing this with Eric Clapton's "Behind The Mask" playing in the background. I've forever associated that song with this game.

  • did you know, that when the police radar is flashing, you don't have to slow down to 60mph. You can speed up to the maximum, and then the police car passes you and nothing happens. You just have to look out, not to collide with the police. This was my solution for the game :D

  • Wont work. If that works for you, somethings wrong with the game youre playing.

  • No no! gedzior is right. I also use to do it that way.

  • yeah true, speed up to maximum but only at - I think 240 mph - if you are slower 239 mph for example, then that you get stopped by the police officer

  • Film Zajebioza :P

  • those sound effects are great lol

  • great game, spent ours playing this

  • sure it was Hours xD

  • brilliant. I used to always run out of gas.

  • lol i luv old games i still hav the NES and super mario with it =P

  • Wasn't this called "ENDURO" on the 2600?

  • This is a sequel, or a spiritual sequel at least.

  • This was one of the greatest driving games ever created. I used to be amazed when a new city would be viewed in the horizon!

  • I played this a lot on the C64. Loved it.

  • wise goy!!!

    lol

    Nostalgia =(

  • DRUUUUUUUUUUUUUIIIIIIIIII! DRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. Nice sond efects ;PPPPPPPPP

  • Haha. Your opening three minutes shows more success than I had in a young lifetime of playing this game. I think actually understanding the basic concepts of driving would have helped. But I was like 7.

  • Wow! I remember this game.

  • I remember playing this game! Man, the sound affects are bad, lol! Was it this one or Night Driver where they had a foggy night drive that was impossible to see the frigging road?

  • This was a very good game. While Pole Position may have had (slightly) better graphics, there was not as much strategy involved. The obstacles like gas usage, weather, police, time of day as the race wore on made this fun. One trick I always used was changing the start time of the race, so I wouldn't run into the time costly rush hour traffic on the final leg.

Of course, playing this on the AtariWin800 PLus emulator, you never have to worry about collisions ever again. :)

  • One of my favorite games! Thanks for uploading it!

  • awesomeness!

  • Wow !!! This was one of the first pooter games I had and it's amazing to see (and HEAR it - that sound is REALLY GOOD) it again after such a long time. Glad you included my favourite snowy section and reminded me of the forgotten night stage.

  • old good times....it was one of my favourite games

  • goodness this isnt good advert for the Atari's ability. By 1985 the Commodore 64 had overtaken the Atari 800 as a better games machine: Summer games II; Mission impossible, way of the exploding fist.

Atari had some good games for it but the volume of good games was on c64 side.

Although I must say International Karate for the Atari 800 was very good.

  • I had this game. Damn thing used to keep crashing whilst loading

  • Yihhhh ! All my 800XL games used to do that. You could lessen the chance if you wound the tape header up before you started loading - but there was still a bit of a risk when you had to flip the cassette to the second side....Heh - after your FIRST 45 minutes of waiting.

  • nice gameeee :D:D:D:D:D

  • I loved Enduro for the 2600, never knew there was a sequel for the Atari computers :(

  • nice

  • I dident notice its from activision. It must be the sequel to Enduro!

    Nice!

  • This game is similar to Enduro (atari 2600)and outrun.

It's surely inspired by those two games.
