@scienterprize you cant really bluff beginners... real bluffs only work against pro's. further on its difficult to bluff in online poker because the guys there are under time pressure
if he had a good hand he wouldnt have bet enough to look desperate to throw ivey out of the hand, he would have checked or called at an earlier point to make ivey bet and make him get more money, if he had a good hand, he would want phil ivey to fold
@VicenzoV if he had 8-9(which is highly unlikely since phil has an 8 in his hand already) or 9-10..once again it's highly unlikely he would reraise the hand...it'd make much more sense to call on the flop and try to double up through ivey if he hit the straight on the turn...which is about a 10% chance...it makes much more sense that jackson has complete air trying to reraise and doing it so quickly each turn.
@SootedcardsRgud Having an 8 in your hand makes its HIGHLY unlikely for your opponent to have one? Ignorant remark. It makes it SLIGHTLY less likely, yes, but you can't make big decisions based upon such little information.
@VicenzoV For value? Really? How can he be sure Jackson doesn't have a K or an A himself? A reraise by A high or some crappy pocket pair might make alot of sense here. This hand is something the likes of we youtube viewers will never fully understand.
@MCHellraiser88 It's totally easy to understand. He knew he wouldn't raise him on the flop if he had a Jack. Worst case scenario is he has a seven. And Ivey has 2 overs to that. He also knew he wouldn't raise AGAIN if he had a Jack, so he shoved. An all-in MAY have worked since it's easier to shove with Q8 than call with it.
@airickeric You know what? I watched it again and I missed the fact that there was no preflop action. Any pocket pair, ace, ore even possibly a king in Jackson's hand would've led to a preflop raise. He wouldn't have raised with a jack, and like you said that leaves only the 7 being a possibility. With that being said, the odds of hitting a single specific card on the flop aren't very good. This all makes a little sense now after watching it. Heads up is one of my weak areas :(
@MCHellraiser88 Actually it was limped then raised by Ivey, dude. So you could actually put Jackson on a Jack or Seven preflop, since he didn't raise, and then just called. Those cards totally in his range. But Ivey knew he would slow play a Jack on flop, a Seven is possible, but Ivey wasn't a believer, and he almost doesn't need to because he has 2 overs as a back up. And as always, when you're betting/raising, it gives you 2 ways to win, by either a fold or winning at showdown.
Can an experienced player fathom a guess as to what Phil Ivey is thinking during this hand? Any analysis would be helpful. How does he know Jackson hasn't hit?
@onta1988 Just a guess, but maybe the way he errects himself, does a fake cough and covers the mouth just before the 4bet, and possibly some history of the players tells/patterns, and a cluster of other tells things too. Tells usually are inaccurate alone but when a series of weak tells come together you can almost be certain they are bluffing, I think Phil Ivey is a professional at this. I'm just learning all this stuff, I could be wrong.
