If you are reading these comments and are from my 350z Craigslist post this deck is awesome. Watch the video. I paid $1k for this deck and have the reciept for the install and deck and all other audio equipment.
This is still in my car and works well. This car is a convertible and in the sun as you wuld expct it's hard to see th screen. Top up and it's good. I only have about 13K miles on this car as it is a toy so I have not had it out enough to see sun damage. Still happy with this though.
no tv on mine - I thought about it but as my car is a soft top I didn't want the antena on the the car. Really I don't need half of what this thing does and probably only use the movies on long trips to car shows so my son can pass the time easier. I thought about TV but for me it would b a waste.
Great info man and it looks awesome.. I have a question, would it fit on my nissan altima 07 and will i still be able to use the controls from the streering wheel?
I am not sure as I don't know anything about the altima other than they are a pretty nice car for what they are. You might call an ovation or someplace that does installs and ask them??? If you have a 2 DIN place then i am sure they fit or an adapter kit is made for them though. I would assume with this technology there are ways to hook up the steering wheel controls....the remote for the thing is more complex than my big screen tv :)
As long as there are thieves, the hard working person can never have anything nice. i wanna catch em and cut their fingers off, then pour packets of hot fire sauce from taco bell on them. forgive me God, just venting on the internet.
Any suggestions on ways of hiding such an expensive unit from sneeky eyes and thief. I really want to get one of these but people steal everywhere. My number 1 reason for just passing this one up :(
my 8120 just got stolen out of a 06tahoe. They popped the door lock in on my driver side door. had it pro installed at an authorized kenwood dealer, along with jl amps, subs and speakers that was also taken. this is the best unit out there and you would love it. only complaint, takes about 15 secs to boot up after starting your car. you have to get at least a level 3 alarm. believe me, that shit is painful, especially coz my insurance, mercury, only paid me $1000 maximum for stereo equipment.
how is the sound quality on that unit? i was debating on getting this one or the alpine iva-w505...my main concern right now is what will sound better on my amps and subs that i have hooked up?
I got the Kenwood DNX-7120 with the bluetooth. Overall I like the unit, but I wanted the 8120...that's a bummer. Well one thing these aftermarket units is there is no Fast-forward or Re-wind on mp3 songs...so not good :( Just wish with the technology over in Japan so superior than USA's a person would think this would be up to par.
I have the 8120 installed in my Tacoma and the Bluetooth works excellent. The mic picks up your voice if you talk quietly and the sound quality is excellent.
Just purchased the dnx 8120 and getting installed next week. How is the ipod connected? Is there like an actual USB wire coming out from the back of the unit and connect to your IPod? Great review by the way!
Yes - there is a wire with a plug you just connect it into. I ran mine into the center console but many put them in the glove box. It really doesn't matter as once connected the controls are all on the radio. I can play movies etc off of it too which is noce so I don't have to mess with changing DVD's all the time. I think you can load pics on from the Ipod too but I have not bothered to figure out all of the features. This is way above the level I need but I like it quite a lot.
I have not because my phone is older than dirt and doesn't have that option. It's on myu list to upgrade now though. I do have a little mic. that is mounted up near the read view mirror and have heard calls from other's come through on the blue tooth and it sounds quite good on this end. I don't yet know how it sounds to the caller. I suspect fine as long as the top is up....once the top is down I imagine it would suck pretty bad but not because of the unit....just because of wind noise.
I wished Fry's had this unit, I have some instore credit from returning the Kenwood DNX-7100 and wanting to get the 8120 unit, but they only carry the 7120, which I have to purchase the bluetooth extra, but it's no 8120, but like I said I have store credit at this store, so I have to do what I gots to do.
There is built in blue tooth which I neglected to mention because my phone is so old it doesn't have it but the installers (Ovation on 82nd in Indianapolis) showed it to me and I will need to upgrade the phone. It's really nice for use when driving.
The full iPod controls from the unit are outstanding too. Playlists, songs, movied all right on the unit - no more fumbling with the Ipod on the road and it charges when in use so no more extra plug to charge it while usine the aux. input!
This is in my 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 replacing the stock Shaker 500 head unit. Nothing else was changed relating to the sound quality and there is a noticable change. The Shaker 500 had no dvd/nav but a decent sound for the stock unit.
This unit has an 11 band graphig equalizer that you just run your finger over and set the curve - it's impressive. As I learn more about this system I am more and more impressed.
Haha thanks for the parenting tip. He is 7 now and doing great having seen part 4 & 5 in the theater and on DVD

Have you used the bluetooth for this unit yet? How does it pick up your voice? Does it have like a mic you hook up to it somehow?
