This is a wonderful message! I need to watch this everyday until I get into this habit. I'm very introspective person by nature. But, when depressed goes out the window.
i was very bipolar once. psychiatry made it even worse. but then i discovered smart drugs & started self medicating. i now understand that i wanted was more introspection.
I know, with me, paranoid psychoses were always insightful and being labeled as "crazy" by a majority that supports a world that is fucked up. People who are religious nuts or nations that are manipulated by leaders by fear to be proud of committing genocide around the globe and I think to myself, "And I am crazy?"
I've never been diagnosed with bipolar disorder but can see aspects of it's nature in my behaviour. I live in a rural area where mental instability is often criticized and cast aside. I'm not interested in taking mind numbing drugs to combat severe depression and so self empowerment is ideal for someone like me.
@lordcrobar - while I understand why you might not want to take what you call 'mind numbing' drugs to combat severe depression, there are cases where the depression is just so severe that it completely takes over a person's life & they simply cannot function normally & many also become suicidal. When it reaches this stage drugs are needed in order to try & help the person who is ill. This doesn't happen overnight. It can take months, even years to overcome or control their illness.
pro- and anti-psychiatry are both on the same side. They both want the symptoms to go away instead of harnessing them for good. Tom is trying to get them both to understand that we can turn depression, mania, hallucination, and delusion into gifts instead of something that we want to remove from our lives. Once bipolar is "in order,' you can see why making it go away is the wrong approach. If we don't learn how to control it, then it is in "disorder" and is harmful to us.
Tom does not have bipolar disorder, he has Bipolar In Order. Bipolar In Order does not need medication as there is no "illness" to remove. The new book, "Bipolar In Order: Looking at Depression, Mania, Hallucination, and Delusion From the Other Side" explains that and much more.
Hey, you're a great guy! I know this sort of thing works. I'm bi polar with PTSD and some hella anxiety, but I began reading this book: Feel the fear and do it anyways, from pain to power, because I am not gonna drug myself with brain damaging medication. It works, introspection works, taking charge is a mental decision, with or without handicaps, if you have handicaps, you just learn to be smarter. It's a matter of allowing yourself to be innovative, and smarter than the situation at hand.
thanks for sharing that...I have the same thing with ocd and adhd and panic attacks...nothing works...get worse...i have turned to the bible recently after learning strattera can kill you...it seems to be helping 2...but i needed guidance on reading it....i might do this 2....if i can make myself
