  • god i miss this city

  • did you do these videos (philly downtown,NJ TNPK, and this) in order? like all in one day

  • @Xeivous Yes, starting with the I-95 Richmond, VA video and Washington/Baltimore/Delaware videos. It was a very productive day :)

  • WOW. This was amazing. I have driven this road many times and don't remember half that stuff. Probably because I was trying to pay attention to the road and not the scenery. That road makes you feel like you are going 90mph even if you are going 50.

  • @danie123182 Thanks! yes driving on the road definitely feels faster than you are actually going.

  • yes white car is in the lead! i keep pretending its a race. lol.

  • what car you have?

  • @Fortuna272 I have an Acura TL, used my wife's Acura MDX in this video.

  • the reason for slow down at 2:00 is not the tight turn.

the reason is bunch of assholes cut to the right lane at the last moment just before that turn because they don't want to wait in line.

  • looks like making one mistake can result in a huge accident. no wonder drivers are so hesitant to merge in

  • This + crazy motorcycle chase music = WIN!

  • A lot of streetlights seem to be either switched off or broken..

  • My aunt lives here, she says the traffic is crazy, but the sights are wonderful! The traffic looks bad compared to my city, Cincinnati.

  • This is a very SPECIAL video. Much enjoyed by me and my 7 year old. We love it! Should be nominated as one of the best ever NYC showcase videos in history! Keep up the good work.

  • @Baltimorehop Thank you very much for the kind words, they are greatly appreciated!

  • This is a very nice video thumbs up

  • @lostdaflame101 Thank you!

  • You know, Freewayjim, I loved it that you said "None this way luckily" just after you entered NJ and was not required to pay the toll since it only applies to traffic entering New York.

A sign that says "No Toll This Direction" is one of the things Jersey Boys and Girls love to see when they drive back to their state. You live in Georgia and I'm glad to see you love those signs too when you drive out of the big city and the gruesome toll doesn't apply to you! Not to mention they just raised it!

  • Wow the freeway is narrow

  • @noah14744 It was built in the early-mid 50's as were most NYC expressways (and they are narrow).

  • @Freewayjim Are there any plans to widen those expressways or to put them underground so at least the volume can be increased ?

  • @AmersfoortTristan No, it would be incredibly expensive to do in that area.

  • @Freewayjim Real shame. Thanks for the info. It would be very expensive indeed but at least the volume would be increased -- and thus would the efficiency.

  • New York See Any Best City Most Traffic Must L.A,Chicago,Houston,ATL,Detroit

  • Awesome video.. thanks for sharing and you picked right song..

  • @CaronAplus Thank you! I appreciate that.

  • jim i love the soundtrack! made me get up and dance hehehee

  • @krause83171 Boogie Nights are always the best in town :)

  • you should do Philadelphia at night. not as epic as New York, but its great! especially 95 and 676

  • still one of my favourites after all of this time, jim. such an AWESOME ride and great music.

  • @jenzeppelin Thanks, it's one of my favorites too!

  • I always looked up for videos like yours, and now I've found them! Thanks for the vids Freewayjim.

  • @djrjp Glad you found my channel, thanks for watching!

  • Great drive. Yes, 55 feels fast for the FDR (East River) Drive because it IS fast. The FDR is one of Robert Moses' specials and although he is the grandaddy of the interstates in this country, we've been spending the past forty years correcting his mistakes which were blindly repeated ad nauseum all over the country!

  • Hey New York. Chicago's been talking shit.

  • How long does it take o get to lower east side to hrd

  • @boomboxxking About twenty mins if traffic moving. One hour if not. FDR can be intense driving because it floods and it's so old there's no shoulders and lanes can be quite narrow. It's also a washboard in many places due to the heavy volume.

  • This is nice. I love all of your videos!!! The music took me way back in time. Thanks Freewayjim.

  • @msgilliam1474 Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!

  • I love this video. It carries such a great feeling.

  • @Teketkeee Thank you!

  • Hey, thatnks for the video jim, I'm moving to NY in about two weeks. I can't WAIT! I am super excited :)

  • @Shortii3651 Cool, glad you liked it!

  • @Freewayjim You need to make some MORE THIS IS AWESOME. I love youre video's. Music and all

  • @mystuff414 I'll be taking a mid-west tour this week so new videos should be coming later this month.

  • Damn Freewayjim how much gas you burn baby?

  • @kimera808 A LOT! lol.

  • I live in NYC, born and raised, love the city, love your video, hate the traffic.

  • Dude i love your videos especially when i'm drinkin beer with my friend. We are imagining that we are in America ^^ GREETINGS FROM POLAND!

  • @swietyklemens LOL, Bottoms up!

  • I know you speeded this up. you can not go that fast on riverside. :)

  • @honeyblonde22 Yes indeed, it is sped up about 3.5x normal speed.

  • how did i miss this gem?

    Awesome video Jim!

  • @bschaven Thank you, glad you found it!

  • Exhilarating! Love seeing NY at night. BTW, I know FreewayJim personally and I know how fast he drives! While the speed of his videos have been accelerated, believe me, this guy goes FAST!

  • @jaquette97 LOL, that's not true! You have not ridden with me in over 8-9 years.

  • Thumbs up if this reminds you of Liberty City!

  • @morsaw10000 nope it doesn't sorry they ant that many high ways in the gta4 im from new york and i know what my city look like if you played mafia 2 that what new york look like

  • Great video! I <3 NY!!!

  • @cesarisaias95 Thank You!

  • Love your Videos Freewayjim!

  • @wojack1000 Thank you!

  • Awesome!

  • I've been a huge fan of you and your videos for a long time already, starting with this one. There is some kind of a genre here on YouTube - "highways", "driving videos" or something like that. I mean lots of people do that stuff. But yours is top notch!

  • @DarryRoss Thank you, I appreciate that!

  • I wish I lived in New York

  • Freewayjim, I noticed at 6:02 you had to merge very quickly because you almost exited onto Amsterdam & 179th Avenue instead of I-95 South. Reply to this comment if you agree NYCDOT doesn't do a good job informing drivers ahead of time for major exits from the highways, especially an exit as major as I-95! The only way to tell you should be in the right lane for the Geo. Washington Bridge was the sign at 6:02! A sign at 5:49 could have prevented that guy in front of you from braking aggressively!

  • @MyMultimedia Yes, I completely agree with you on all counts.

  • I have a newfound respect for NYC's expressways.

  • NYC is fucking awesome....love it too much

  • I have to say this video is one of the best ive seen in a long time

    excellent work

  • @NYsentinel Thank you!

  • Im sorry, my question was regarding the elevated Guwanus expressway.

it has a spectacular view at night.

was it edited out for video timing?

My writing isnt the best either.

  • @NYsentinel Oh! I edited the Gowanus out for the sake of the video, I had to manually extend the song as it was. Now that section of road is in my other NYC at night video.

  • Music and timing is perfect especialy the begining sequence

    1 question though

    Guwanus ?

  • I dont get it???

  • @DTCAPO5 what's not to get?

  • Excellent !!!

  • @NYsentinel Thank you!

  • I like this one too! Thx again. Idk, but 4 some reason this vid & music reminds me of "The Wiz" movie. A (broadway-themed) movie done in NY.

  • Thanks for watching??????? Thank you for doing such a wonderful video.

  • @JuangonysChannel Thanks :) I do appreciate people taking the time to watch and comment, glad you liked it!

  • BEST CITY EVER

  • @Bahsok1 I agree! So g-da*n beautiful!

  • beeautiful!

  • @EasternMetalHero Thanks!

  • Never been to NYC. Thanks for showing me Jim.

  • i love the fact that every time i have to go to jfk, i always pass through this simple bridge. it has a beautiful look at night... ;)

  • Great Vid. I miss the Twin Towers :(

  • Its amazing how the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building stand out even when the camera doesnt intend to capture them.

  • Very cool its like Sao Paulo but with more bridges

  • DAMN THATS A BIG BRIDGE LOL

  • pretty cool work, nice and flashy NY at night as well , gotta love big cities like NY , great video

  • @BialyOrzel777 Thank you!

  • Still one of my favourite videos...I've come by to watch it many, many times.

  • @jenzeppelin -Thanks, I'm glad you enjoy it!

  • The right lane on the Brooklyn Br. looks really narrow.

  • Jim and Son, I saw several of your video's thanks for the good work, I was very amused by all of them!

  • This is amazing. Thanks for sharing with us :)

  • @TeleCabo -You are welcome, so glad you enjoyed it!

  • I don't feel that NYC area expressways/parkways are lit as well as those in Chicago.

  • I'll have to drive this route if/when I make it back to the NY/NJ/CT area. I was too chicken to try it during daytime traffic.

  • that was magnificent ,,from australia......it,s huge

  • @barclosed -Thank you!

  • I MUST KNOW do you live in a rural or urban area if urban what city?

  • @MrNoah54 -I am originally from NH but have lived in Metro Atlanta (within 15 Miles of downtown) since 1977

  • @Freewayjim so your saying you live in atl? OH I ALWAYS WANTED TO LIVE THEIR

  • @MrNoah54 -I live in the Metro Atlanta area, yes.

  • Beautiful Picture Of The Skyline At The End...Gosh Man I Miss Living Here Philadelphia Is Nothing Like This City Right Here!

  • Cool vid.. I love these driving vids from all over.. ;)

  • Brilliant! Been down these roads so many times....never like this though. Very cool video.

  • @MixMasterMax -Thank you!

  • Love it, been down the Belt so many times. It's not the same with all the ttrafic. This video is fantastic!!!!!

  • This is featured via jenzeppelin's channel - awesome! Regards, '62 Mathew St. (Total Retro Rock)

  • I get sad leaving Manhatton

Such a great place to be in

  • cool ! you past my grafathers building at 96st he moved there when it first opened in 1964 now its kind of bad lol

  • The 0:54 mark has got to be President Street. My maternal grandma(God rest her soul) lived a few blocks to the right... ominously, on the corner of Clinton.

  • Pls. try Tokyo Metropolitan expressway! You'll find it!

  • pls. visit Tokyo Metropolitan expressway. You'll find it!

  • any one here know how i convince my mom and dad to move here

  • wish i could travel and do all this free driving lol free time is a blast nice video

  • Awesome!! thanks for posting!

  • Hey what do you use for filming equipment? I agree the FDR Drive ride is awesome, although I prefer southbound, flying under the Williamsburg, Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges with Lower Manhattan in the background, Brooklyn to the left, and the Verrazzano in the distance. But the 135th St. exit takes you to the Madison Avenue Bridge, not Madison Ave, that's where it ends.

  • @ztrain445 I use a Sony HDR-HC9 on a tripod.

  • nice work :)

  • Ah the George Washington bridge. Last time I was on it was back in 05. Anyways would anybody know the approximate age of the merge left sign @ 6:17?

  • perfect! thanx

  • Man thats a great vid, I want to go to new york so bad.

  • This is probably the best video of your's I've seen yet! That night drive with lights and skyscrapers everywhere must've been a SUPER sight to see! The highway under the apartments was very nice!

  • @gvilleboy352 Thank you! It really was a fun ride when we were filming it.

  • All I can say is ...... Wowwwwwwwww.

  • Your vids are just great. The subtitles helps a lot to understand the highways of new york. I've been thinking of getting my international permission for driving and take some driving around Manhattan.

    Just great!

  • My hometown! I love going around NYC at night!

  • nice vid

  • Good Job Jim. I love it. I love it. NYC no place like it on earth. It is my birthplace, hometown!!!!

  • This is just beautifull WoW A++++++++++++

  • @masterlee123 : Thank you!

  • great filming and editing - and the long version of Boogie Nights - perfect ;.)

  • @0marigolds: I must confess, that is the regular version of Boogie Nights, I just did some creative editing chopping up and re-arranging parts of the song ; )

  • @Freewayjim great audio editing by you then - there are 2 versions, one a short radio edit and the other with the intro/outro. 'Cause those radio stations like to keep our music short to fit in more commercials! Either way, dancing with the boogie get down is always the best in town, car dancing included - peace ;.)

  • @6:27 How did the person in the Trailblazer that keeps hitting the brakes get back in front of you if you went different ways ?!

  • I don't know? you could ask him I guess :)

  • A very classy video, 5 stars!

  • It was about 9-9:30 PM on a Saturday night. Traffic was pretty heavy in the opposite direction on FDR drive along the east side.

  • @Freewayjim

How does this compare to weekday rush hour traffic? Awesome vid btw.

  • I have no idea, I don't live there.

  • @bg1379: A nightmare, simply put! I'm a California native, and NYC traffic is arguably worse than what I'm used to in Los Angeles.

  • freeway jim thanks for sending me the video.I love new york city what I like about new york is that it has unique freeways and its freeways are unique and different from other big cities also.Birmingham has some what bigger freeways but the biggest i have ever seen so far has been the downtown connector in atlanta thats a huge freeway in atlanta.

  • If you want unique check my Boston Videos. They moved an elevated 1950's style 6 lane freeway underground and made it 8-10 lanes. Most expensive highway project in US History.

  • I have never been to new york city because i live in alabama the deep south but from watching this video new york city roads and interstates look narrow and small.I was expecting new york city to have big interstates with like 15 lanes of interstate see and how its the biggest city in the world but instead it has a narrow three lane interstate or road. unless im missing more of what new york city has to offer of interstates or roads.I just saying this based on what im seeing on the video.

  • Some of the Freeways around Birmingham are bigger than those in NYC. Land is too expensive to build huge Los Angeles Style freeways, plus all of NYC's freeways were built before 1965 and there really is no room to expand.

  • Hey!

What camera have you been using?

    Thanks!

  • I use a Sony HDR-HC9 which shoots to MiniDV tapes in HD.

  • you should do a video of driving down Broadway in super fast speed w/ some wu-tang in the background.

  • Brooklyn Bridge looks so much better in the daytime.

  • Rockefeller University at 3:54

  • Freeway Jim, your videos are awesome!

  • Thank you much!

  • What happened to the Gowanus and the rest of the BQE?

  • Well I filmed the entire route but the traffic was really backed up approaching the Battery Tunnel so I decided not to use it, the video jumps to where the BQE continues just after the tunnel exit. As for the rest of the BQE? I did not film any other parts of it, the rest of the way if uninterrupted.

  • Have you considered doing a video of the Gowanus and BQE or LIE one day? Perhaps from the Whitestone Bridge to the Verrazano?

  • Yes I would like to film those roads but getting up with the time to do that is another story.

  • can sumone plz confirm tht just recenlty on the beltparkway tht are installing reflctors in lanes ?

  • Great video.....We live in NC but my wife is a real New Yorker....I'm amazed everytime we go to the city.

  • I wish Toronto was like this!

  • hey jim.....have you thought about driving on parkways? palisades parkway which runs from bear mountain, new york to fort lee, new jersey (ends at george washington bridge) is just awesome.

  • Hi, yes I have but I usually don't have the time to spare in the NYC area and honestly, the Expressways are more interesting to me, BUT I may do some Parkway videos if I get the chance.

  • When I want to go home, I watch Freewayjim's vids. I now live in Las Vegas but dearly miss NYC! I've travelled all over the world and there no better city than NYC.

  • Glad I could be of service :)

  • Nice video, but bad when there's lots of traffic! Could of also used the song "Freeway Shuffle" for this. :)

  • Some irony here, but on my drive back to Virginia from Flatlands, while driving the Gowanus Expressway, the same "Boogie Nights" song came over the radio... coincidence I guess...

  • nyc is amazing! see our new greek highways, and tunnels... they are impressive! love from saloniki, greece!
