@siasabora have you seen this? I just bumped into it and funny enough when I was watching the BBC breakfast news this morning(17th feb) and on the business news, they were talking about this ground breaking pioneering innovation that is being introduced in the UK market soon. Only the so called ground breaking innovation is our very own mobile cash transaction or the Kenyan version of M-pesa. When they talked in depth about it, they singled out Kenya as the country where it all started.
It is surprising what you can learn about modern Africa when you dare venture outside the tourist box. Great truthful presentation Sir. I am working on the next great Mpesa idea myself. We should talk.
for once someone has thought beyond children and mothers crying and hungry, not gone to the slums and just found some worthwhile teaching module from my home country..thanx alexender we got many more modules to learn from..welcome to 3rd world developed countries!
Mr. Oswald, our pleasure for having helped you see new things. I was disappointed, same as girmayh, by your need to apologize to your audience over the fact that these innovations were being made in a developing country. And that conclusion, that you FEAR you might have to consult Kenyans!!! It's not such a bad thing. @ Kenyans: Mr. Oswald gave due where it was due, we thank him, but the fact that we need someone to come from NOWHERE to tell us that we are innovative is sad. Low self-esteem.
You went to kenya to relax and stay away from technology, phones etc and bum you were at work again researching on mobile banking in kenya. You need to spend more time with the family and not talk to beach boys:)
Mr.Oswald, this video just proves that you look at things like an educated person not like many Europeans would do.They would just say..kenya?Africa?give me a break..all that comes from there is trouble. What you are trying to tell people in that meeting is...Hey wake up...Those guys can think too.Europeans think that somehow they are the only ones who can think..that others are inferior. They even went ahead to think that Africans are still evolving. This thinking is changing very fast this days
It was an excellent presentation and very factual. However, the arrognace throughout was very sad. When do people stop arrogance over others and Africa and just get it simple. Africans are as much western educated as any one 'Western' person. why are they still in denial? One best chanracter that Kenyans have, for better or worse, is that they can take in anyone, any idea and accomodate space!! This intellectual resilience is what will be and is driving them and thier economy.
@girmayh No arrogance at all intended from my side. Soryy, if it came over like that. Actually the message should be to wake up, look beyond our ressources and money, and see what kind of great innovations are achieved in Africa. The conclusion is that we need to wake up and stop our ignorance.
Wow! how could you describe this? Look at what Alexander is doing to us? Challenging us on our self worth which we have never appreciated before! Now this is what I call good news! I am so proud of u Alex! Got this message via fb link and also sharing it on fb....I wish everyone could do the same!

MyKey have u heard of Nick Hughes,Susie Lonie? These are the people behind Mpesa.Don't sleep..Nick worked with Vodafone and recently set up Signal Point.DON"T SLEEP!
What Oswald has done is very good - giving Kenyan innovations international recognition and exposure. Very well done but can Kenyans pick up the gauntlet and elect a leadership that can harness our resources for the nation's development? Our tribalist leaders have no room to allow local innovation to develop because some are from a rival tribe..thank you Oswald but I think we should be more scared than your people because you'll take our apps and leave us squirming in dirt. Am a proud Kenyan!
The reaction of kenyans in here is almost like Kenya won a Noble price...though Kenya is moving in a good direction when it comes to mobile solutions dont forget its a British guy behind the Mpesa thing and vodaphone has the whole concept..peanuts for kenyans
NO BRITISH GUY ITS WAS AN IDEA BY MID YEAR UNIVERSITY STUDENT IF AM NOT WRONG....AFRICAN KENYAN...AND HE WAS PAID LITTLE AMOUNT ON THIS MULTI BILLION IDEA BY SAFARICOM.
Mr. Oswald! You just touched a bomb that was about to explode:)we are waiting for your second lecture on the mobile solutions in Kenya! You have a new audience in Kenya and what a good place place to market kenya.Im sure part of the croud will visit kenya some time. The problem with the West or Europe is they take things for granted. When you tell them they might need to consult Kenya im sure the reaction is What???Kenya??Give me a break! They need to adopt to the changing world.
It is an interestting watch. Proud to be Kenyan! As many Kenyans should watch to believe in their abilities and potential. We are not a lesser human race. Alexander this is a great and inspiring presentation.
As an intellectual property lawyer,i have been amazed by the ingenuity of young kenyans n their innovativeness through the work they have entrusted on me to protect by way of registering as trademarks.keep it on kenyans.i would rate kenyans top in africa n among the best in the world.the M-pesa has won several global awards.the only let down z the goverment and greedy politicians
Wonderful presentation. Thanks Oswald.Feel free to come back for more consultation and meetings with mobile developers in Kenya.A candle does not lose its light by lighting another..
Thank you again from my side! I am so pleased with all the current almost 12.000 views, all the feedback I am getting via Youtube and Twitter, my account is @_alexswald . I never thought that this would such an important message for the people in Kenya, however I am thankful to be the one delivering it .)
Wow, I celebrate you Mr. Oshwald: indeed, the minimal resources act as a steering power to our mobile discoveries...thank you for sharing this with the world. I hope every one learns a thing...and yes, Beach boys do not bite!
From Kenya - thank you so much for this report...Thank you for potraying Kenya positively..it does not happen often from non-Kenyans ... KARIBU SANA !
That was inspiring. Thats the real spirit of the Kenyan people. Let the world know taht while we can run longer and faster we can also think out of the box.
Mr. Oswald i salute you for your talk. Shows you how simple solutions in Kenya reach millions. The potential is there but lack of capital prevents us from putting our ideas forth.!!!!
As a Kenyan I salute you Mr. Oswald, the people of Kenya are grateful that for once somebody has looked beyond the negatives and came up with a presentation worth recomending. I'm forever grateful!
Mr. Alexander Oswald, I've never felt so proud being a Kenya like a feel today. But believe me, we have all this opportunities, yet some of us take it for granted. All in all, I really hope that in less that the 5year u gave yourself, i hope you'll come hear at our motherland to do more consultation about mobile solution. You are most welcome and on behalf of Kenya, We Celebrate you. All the Best Mate.
yeah! Positive news coming from Kenya. Not the negative stuff that the western world is used to seeing on the news!! Good to see that Alexander Oswald learnt something new............while on safari. Wish all tourist were like that.
Great talk Mr. Oswald. Thanks for highlighting things I didn't even know existed in my country. Like you said, in aiming for the surplus that other countries experience, it is easy to overlook the simple fundamentals.
Thanks for the excellent presentation that make us aware once again that it is not the money that counts, but the phantasie and creativity when we want to change the world. Another simple example: In South Africa you can be notified for each credit card transaction by SMS. Thus you would immediately notice credit card fraud. In Germany this service is not available according to my credit card company. Shame, I wonder if that is intentional or also lack of creativity.
Proud to be Kenyan....there are many innovative and creative ideas there its only that we dont have a platform to share them ...secondly its quite expensive to patent such innovative ideas and finally you willl find the rich taking your idea using it for his gain
Kenya my country.thank you so very much for sharing this.it has just heightened my love for my country and didn't someone once say necessity is the mother of all inventions?well, hearing such words from a top 10 richest country makes one know that yes indeed we can.heck,we already are doing it.najivunia kuwa mkenya translated,i am proud to be Kenya!
The one time ..Najivunia kuwa Mkenya! .... Please note it has nothing to do with our current crop of politicians! For them... they need to leave(far from Kenya) and let us develop our ideas!
The one time ..Najivunia kuwa Mkenya! .... Please not it has nothing to do with our current crop of politicians! For them... they need to leave(far from Kenya) and let us develop our ideas!
The presentation was/is an excellent learning tool, and remarkable platform! 'Out of the box' innovation meets forward-thinking action, and from Kenya of all places... great observations, education, and initiative - now if that can be incorporate that into the WTC 'Africa Initiative' and FUTUREofTRADE com - the world would change for the better!
That Presentation was just the best . . . . .Am proud of M-Pesa, AirTel Money, Orange Money, YuCash and M-Bima Why Kenyans do it better. Thanks Alexander Oswald. Check out CIC M-Bima @MDauti on twitter
fascinating!!!So what we take for garnted, the Mpesa n what nots are the next best things???Awesome..Necessity is the mother of invention..Kudos Kenyans!!
The biggest problem is our govt and its policies otherwise we would be in the top ten richest countries in the world. Kenyans are like Good seeds wherever you drop it it will grow phenomenally hahaha. email diligence280@yahoo.co.uk
Great presentation. For a very long time we have faulted our education system. I think some of this brilliance we are seeing in Kenya is a product of that very system 8-4-4=0. We were really taught to make the best/most from limited resources!
Nice, finally someone is recognising our innovativeness. Just paid for my insurance through M-Pesa....BR4763909 47,000 sent to Resolution Health Insurance. Your M-Pesa balance is 3,000.
Thank you so much for the overwhelming positive feedback on my talk. So great to see how the message got over. And I am pleased that it touched the heart and pride of people in Kenya. On Twitter you find me under @_alexoswald
Great to see Kenya being recognized in the area of mobile solutions and innovations...truly world leaders! Somehow the thought of having to consult us seems to make them shudder...lol!
This is one of the best things I've watched recently. It's great to hear the outside world looking at Kenya through unbiased eyes and looking at the good, not the bad, and acknowledging that, indeed, we CAN learn from each other.
That bit about getting the performance of one's child in school is off the mark. We'v nt got there as yet,but national exams results can be accessed via sms.

The one time ..Najivunia kuwa Mkenya! .... Please note it has nothing to do with our current crop of politicians! For them... they need to leave(far from Kenya) and let us develop our ideas!

Great presentation. For a very long time we have faulted our education system. I think some of this brilliance we are seeing in Kenya is a product of that very system 8-4-4=0. We were really taught to make the best/most from limited resources!

This is one of the best things I've watched recently. It's great to hear the outside world looking at Kenya through unbiased eyes and looking at the good, not the bad, and acknowledging that, indeed, we CAN learn from each other.
