agreed...i'm playing neville right now in a community production and i've always felt this should be the most emotional song in the show. the lyrics are so important and when sung this operatically they get a bit covered up.
Tenor is impressive. Bass... Not so much, he's okay, and can hold a tune, but this just isn't his part. This part requires emotion. Even if one is just singing it in a concert.
Our friend was the head of the SF Opera company which is regarded as the second opera company on the continent behind the Metropolitain Opera. They just didn't feel that it would hold up. I heard Renee Fleming do some of the songs and she wasn't as good as the broadway people despite having a much better voice.
Have you heard Elisabeth Schwartzkoph doing the First Noel? I never liked the song at all until I heard it. Now, I think it's the best Christmas Carol I've ever heard.
the orchestra is very squeeky and distracting ... too much treble...cut the shriek of the flute ! their performance is okay but an even better performance is at willoliver music on youtube. Will's Lilly's eyes, sung with Roger Ley back in 2000 at a fundraiser is superb ... no sound system, just the auditorium acoustics. the two have a wonderful blend and depth of resonance
very good performance one of the best i've found. my only complaint is the baritone has a mannerism of playing witht the fingers of his right hand and it was very distracting for me...
They sounds really good! I like the opera version as equally as I do the musical theater version. There is more freedom in musical theater but better technique in opera. the only complaint that I have is at the end. The Tenor belted that last note instead of sticking with the technique. He sustained very well throughout the song until that last note. It started out shakey but once he found the placement, it settled and sounded so much better. Congrats you two!
Beautiful job guys. you really need to credit yourselves. Id love to hear the gentleman with the moustache do some lied....Definately we want to hear more of all of you..excellent package!

both voices sound great together, i wish there were more passion behind the music instead of just being sung so musically

I disagree. I think the Tenor's voice sounds thin.

Ok, i'd LOVE to see a major opera company do this show. It'd be wonderful! A big symphony, huge stage...There's sooo much potential!
