  • Did you get Daren's permission to upload this?

  • Better effects then the remastered version

  • pretty clean cgi, i this better than the remastered version. very great work with the walk past the view screen, the reflective fade looks good.

  • Wher can I get the Star Trek phont(text type)?

  • A company by the name of Li'l Bits software used to sell it. I don't know if they are still around. It came with several fonts including Klingon fonts.

  • U can get it at fontempire and it is called 'trek'

  • st tmp is called frontier

  • Thank you. I will look for them.

  • It is such a tragedy that the remastered versions weren't done by Dochterman. His vision if FAR superior.

  • Give me a break. Takei is still Mr. Sulu, and I don't see how his sexual orientation had anything to do with it.

  • @philkarn Those who want to poke fun forget that Sulu was the only one of the crew to eventually get married and have a family.

  • You're awful

  • Great job

  • Way better done than the Remastered series. Bravo!

  • So, how do stars look when traveling past them at faster-than-lights speeds? Since you seem to know.

  • wowsers :O this is more 100% HD than enhanced.

  • Whatever happened with this, was it ever finished?

  • 100 percent BETTER.... If you love Sci Fi you LOVE special effects... Thank you for this!!!!

  • How did you do the transporter effect?

  • Wow this is even better than the new effects made by paramount in the remastered series, WELL DONE!

  • Both this person and the CSB guys put in the tractor beam effect, but there wasn't any time to start towing. Kirk said he'd stay on board and ger the Constellation ready while Decker beamed up with Bones. They beamed up, then the planet killer arrived. Yet, for some reason, the new effects guys seemed to think the tractor beam was activated. KIRK NEVER GAVE THAT ORDER.

    Just sayin'.

  • This is better than what CBS did in some respects. The ship movement is more on par with the original, just much better looking. That's a good thing. The transporter effects look great, but the tractor beam effect isn't working.

  • when I go back and watch this show one of the things I find entertaining is the dated effects. Not to laugh at them but I find them innovative. imposing glitter sprinkled into a waterglass to make a beaming effect is more clever than using canned effects in a program.

  • I completely agree!

  • Wouldn't it be awesome if they 'refurbished' the entire original Star Trek and re-released it?

  • I heard it's been remastered, but I prefer to see the old show as it was at the time. No point in making it something it isn't - yes, the old effects can be funny to us, but the stories and characters are amazing and I like a bit of historical context to show through - like watching a theatre play.

  • Why does his gayness have to be a big deal the whole point of Star Trek is envisage a time when mankind has grown up enough to put those kind of petty differences aside. Time for you to grow up.

  • I feel sorry for you, must be difficult to live with so much hatred.

  • "simplify and label" - Yet arent you being simplistic in your duel labelling of heterosexuality to be a good and positive thing and homosexuality to be an evil and subversive thing. How does making homophobic comments help social morality.

  • I wish I had your limited, worms eye view of history and civilization. It would make things so much easier to be able to simply label peoples and cultures, to be able to simply hate those who are different instead of accepting them. A shame you choose to use your brain for ugliness instead of getting happy.

  • Yet you are labelling Homosexuality to be in the same catagory as Pedophilia. How is Pedophilia - A practice that sexualises children, a psychological disorder in which an adult experiences a sexual preference for prepubescent children. Within the same league as homosexuality. pedopihlia is outside the boundries set by society.homoesexuality isnt, its not illegal , it dosnt hurt anyone, how can an act of love between two consenting adults be wrong or harmful ?

  • "The gay mafia"? lollerskates!

You've just informed the world how clueless you really are. After that statement you really can't expect to be taken seriously by anyone but another bigot.

  • "Butt Pirate Navy?"

    Strong words.

  • Thanks!

  • You're welcome.

  • I just find it odd how you declare yourself a patriot, yet you don't care at all about what your country was founded on.

  • lol whut

  • You didn't pay much attention to the show, then.

  • hahaha nice one

  • I love old and new. I enjoy both for what they are. The new effects give the option of watching an enhanced version, or we can opt for watching the old version, as most of us trek fans have the complete old series on DVD, its nice to have the choice.

I love all the star trek series, but nothing will ever realy beat Bill Shatner and crew in the original. If only they had made Phase 2 series.

  • at 2:41 it absolutely blows me away. The wreck of the Constellation drifting in space, with the perfect font of the original text layed over the video. You did a better job than CBS Digital did. They should have hired you.

  • Beautiful!

  • I have watched star trek since it first came out and i think what they have done is great. You johnny come late wannabee fans need to stop crying. Waaaaa I dont know why they dont make the vega no more, not that your old enough to remember one.

  • i remember those!! my dad had a sh**ty green colored one!!

  • WHY!? Ok so the remastered version looks better than TOS but, fans of TOS like it for what it was at the time. These remastered shows and movies take away from the value of the original versions. The first Star Wars triology is an excellent example of this. The first three Star Wars were great, but now you can't even find the original versions...you can only get the ones covered in CGI vomit. I don't know about anyone else but I enjoyed the giant styrofoam rocks and obviously fake SFX.

  • The sfx were supposedly redone according to Mr Roddenberry's (and/or production) notes. The original sfx scenes were limited by technology and cost. However, if you insist, you can always make your own styofoam rocks. (jk)

Your comment reminded me of some auto restorers that would restore classic autos down to the last defect, even if the defect was accidental.

  • I think they learned a lession from the Star Wars Special Editions. They kept the alterations light and tasteful to remove the obviously poor special effects. McCoy was turned into an uncanny vally slug, and redshirts are not Jar Jar.

  • I dont know, I have episodes 4-6 on DVD and each has a second disc with the original non-CG'd theatrical release on it... so I can watch the new and old star wars movie if I so wished to

  • Love the enhance version! Kick ass!

  • What a beautiful job. The Enterprise never looked better. Thanks.

  • I absolutely LOVE Star Trek and I LOVE the remasterd version of it. I find it amusing reading some of the posts from so-called Star Trek fans. I believe their are hard core fans and I believe there are fair-weather fans. For the fair-weather fans do your homework before making ridiculous commments about the show.

  • These, for the most part, are better than the Remastered version. Much better detail and Enterprise models. I don't like the planet killer so much.

  • This is fan made? Impressive.

  • this is fan made.

the 2007 remastered version din't at so mutch. im not sure witch is better.

  • since when is the Enterprise grey-blue when it is actually white? Why did they screw around with the originals? That's like taking a 15th century painting of Carravaggio and "enhancing" it with neon pigments.....leave well enough alone!!!!

  • you are an idiot, the enterprise wasn't white! this was done perfect!

  • Well Done! The planet killer actually looks dangerous, rather than like a giant gefilte fish. Very enjoyable and a great improvement over the original.

  • thanks for putting this up on YT. Does anyone out there in the U.S. have a copy of the syndicated remastered doomsday machine episode? The local tv station here will not and has not aired it for some odd reason. I really don't want to wait until the season 2 DVD comes out. My curiousity is getting the best of me having not seen it yet

  • can you buy this upgraded series yet? if so where?

  • star trek store dot com is one place;that's where I got my season 1. Wal-Mart may have it already

  • It's coming to DVD soon. But I just bought completed my collection of TOS DVD's, so I think I'll wait 'till they're a bit cheaper.

  • smart plan;maybe that is what I should have done---but too late already done. here's a little note--if you don't have a HD player you can't access side A. Only side B is regular DVD format

  • Don't tell me the discs aren't dual-layered? O_o

  • Alot better than that travesty that will befall the franchise on Christmas day 2008!

  • bull shit asshole, this is better

  • while i think the official remaster did this better (especially the damaged constellation - warp nacelles screwed up with warp coils exposed, ripped up decks, etc) this is *very* nicely done for a non-professional version. and i do wish the official remaster would enhance things like the transporter/hand-phaser effects. the transporter effect in this wasn't perfect, but it was certainly an improvement to the original - which, while great for the 1960s, had a bit of a cardboard cutout feel to it.

  • very nice

  • Wow, this looks a hell of a lot better than the originals. Very well done. they should re-do them all and show them on TV from now on.

  • They have

  • I would pay an embarrassing amount of money for the original series with this treatment.

And yes, I still consider myself a real fan.

  • Excellent job! Vessel shots very well done, especially of the Enterprise towing the Constellation. Best redone version I've seen so far. One thing though, why is it that when Spock says that DDM came up on them, the view screen always shows the DDM RIGHT ON TOP of them! They are able to keep away from it using full impulse, so shouldn't the shot show the DDM approaching from a little more distance away? Wish they were all this well done!

  • It's all very well, and it's quite cool, but I'm not sure about it. There was something about TOS; that despite the bad effects and the budget of next to nothing they still made a superb show.

  • I LIKE IT!!!...THEY NEED TO COME OUT WITH EVERY SEASON OF THE SHOW LIKE THIS AFTER THE NEW TREK 11 FILM!!!(which is supposedly a relaunch

  • this puts the official remasters to shame.

  • if these are out on dvd for collectors, im soooo there to pick em up...totally worth the money, the best rehab job i've ever seen...and the enterprise never looked so good.

  • And you must like, isn´t kid?

  • where can these new versions be bought?

  • is this what will be coming on on the 15th?

  • The ship design isn't incredible but the planet killer is definately better than Paramounts version.

And what's with that persuit scene at the end? Here's the enterprise and it's music. Now here's the flying turd and it's music. I was waiting for Julie Andrews to follow behind spinning around with "THE HIIIIILS ARE ALIIIIIIIVE ..."

  • the enterprise has never looked better!

  • Nope, these are remastered and CGI enhanced episodes being broadcast on national TV! They're on every weekend on the new CW. They nicely touch up the effects, the live action is clearer, brighter and more colorful, and the scratches and pops are removed. Personally, I really like it.

  • Thats a fan made remastering, not the actual remastering being done by CBS.

  • These aren't the TV remasters.

  • i agree 100% they have outdone themselves with these enhancement's...to quote riker of the next generation "if this is enhancement, then you have a gift for understatement." i completely enjoyed watching the full episode the other night which i had tivo'ed and did'nt realize, all i can say is wow...well done.

  • If this was just made by someone with a home computer its pretty impressive but its not better and some of it is worse. I guess the transporter effects looked a little better but not different enough to be worth doing.

  • It is better. Fact

  • so this was a contest? I've seen a few versions ,great idea i did see some where the impulse engines were shooting flame that is wrong

  • Nice try, but the ship looks like computer graphics, not a real model. I'll keep my 'old' DVD set.

  • That acually looked friggin good. Nice Job

  • i love the new look. The original series is what started it all and I still love it. The new cgi is kick ass tho and makes it look better :) Awesome job.

  • that was Big improvement Thanks for that wonderful video

  • STAR TREK RULES

  • I actually thought this looked relatively good. Liked the updated transporter effects the best.

  • I allways felt that Star Trek TOS looks better with the old effects, the new ones just look like they took the graphics out of an old computer game and shoved them in. For me part of the appeal is the lovable cheesyness of the show. Remaking it just dosen't suit it.

  • yeah. Then new effects are cool, but the cheesiness of the original show really sorts the true Trekkies from the wannabies, which is one of the reasons why Star Trek fans are the most devoted fans anywhere.

  • that i'll agree with, the cheesiness does sort out the true fans from the wannabes. wannabes like the show because of the cheesiness. true fans like it in spite of the cheesiness. but we still want it gone.

  • Hey Guys, this is incredible and I am going to buy it, i have all the TOS episodes, but this is like having Star Wars new edition and to be sincere the word will be WHY NOT!

  • : Le sigh : I love seeing TOS redone. Nothing to me is more beautiful than the original Enterprise...her and the connie refit.

  • They should not do this, the contrast to the mega-crappy sets and the beautiful CGI is bad. Keep the CGI for the newer stuff. I mean you'd be better off making TNG look like this.

  • These effects are too much like the 1973 cartoon series. In effect you're turning TOS into a cartoon. Definitely a bad move.

  • i like it, but it almost seems to next generation.

and it was fun to laugh with/at.

  • Digitally enhance Shatners acting??Even a miracle worker couldnt do that..

  • This is a dumb idea. That show is perfect like it is, just leave it alone. I understand that some of the effects look corny, but the WHOLE THING looks corny. Are you going to digitally overlay every goofy machine in the Enterprise? Can you digitally fix the sixties-TV lighting? Can you computer-enhance Shatner's acting? No. Leave it alone. These episodes are gems of television. This turns them into generic sci-fi channel garbage.

  • I totally agree with you; part of the series charm is that it looked a bit crappy; you could see strings holding up the spaceships, sometimes the set walls would 'wobble' when a door closed, etc. What a desecration to mess with TOS...

  • You are so a nerd. They got the original version on already on DVD go buy it if you hate the remastered version. It's for fans that wants a remastered version. To me, the remastered version looks great and it's not garbage! Now it looks updated like the rest of the other series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise!

  • That's the thing, it doesn't. It still looks ridiculous. Only now, the space scenes don't match the rest of the show. Which, in my opinion, makes it far more ridiculous than it already is. It's cool, but since you can't possibly update every part, don't mess with a few parts. It still looks ridiculous no matter what. If you want better special effects, get Star Wars.

  • It doesn't look ridiculous to me. What they did on Star Wars is cool too.

  • You misunderstood my point. The show itself is ridiculous. The interior of the Enterprise is, for the most part, rather goofy looking. The acting and concepts are also silly. Now if you suddenly throw in a really cool looking special effect into the middle of the silliness, it feels out of place. What they did to Star Wars is good, because Star Wars was always a special-effects movie. Star Trek is practically drama, it has never been about the effects.

  • That is your opinion.

  • The opinion of a REAL Trekkie.

  • you like comedy Check out our vids. If you like us subscribe. Thanks

check out the space geeks series

  • As nice as the new effects look I believe that the original ones, tacky as they are, are more consistent with the overall look of the show. I prefer them that way. This is the the same reason I prefer the origioanl Star Wars effects.

  • I see what you mean. Though it does help to bring TOS into line with the other series', especially if you watch episodes including TOS style ships, including 'Trials and Tribblations'(DS9) and 'In a Mirror, Darkly'(ENT) In fact I think episodes like these inspired the remastering program of TOS so it didnt look out of place

  • I can dig it.

  • Stars don't fly by like that, Star Trek always got it wrong, stars in the foreground can't be, they are space debris more likely. One of my favorite episodes.

  • I thought it was funnier with the terrible analog effects.

  • remasterd things are weird.

George Lucas has replaced Jabba the Hutt twice in the origonal STAR WARS and both times it dos'nt even look like the rubber version.

The very first CGI really looked baaaad. Like a Play Dough man.

He'll have to keep updateing it untill he's dead

  • I'm hoping the actual show looked better, that worm or whatever it was looked terrible on the video!!

  • Daren Dochterman's work looks much bether than CBS Digital's work. His CGI looks far more convicing than the poor artifiacial look CBS digital did.

  • Did you know they are making a new Star Trek movie based on the original show. If they do JOHN MALKOVICH as SPOCK and MARK WAHLBERG as CAPT. KIRK. If you disagree let me know.

  • u are lyign

  • No I'am not. Go to Imdb or Wikipedia and they will tell about the up coming Star Trek movie to be released in 2008.

  • They do not do them like this anymore. Too bad.

  • I like this better than the actual ship hits the fans version because the lines are cleaner, and the scenes weren't totally off from the original. Nicely done. This is coming from a fan of the episode that got him into watching the show in the first place.

  • What's with the quick dissolve-cuts? I can understand updating the SFX, but they're not messing with the scenes, are they???

  • HOT.

  • I'm a Trekkie from when the show began, and I love this! As long as no dialogue or scenes are cut to expand the CGI, I would buy this!

  • this is from the new series "Star Trek:Remastered"

Ok Idea I guess, but I like the cheap plastic models and the great enginuity of the low budget show, take that away and you take a big part of the show and it's nostalga.

  • It's not from the Star Trek Remastered version, look at the date it was posted, nearly a year before the HD Remastered version of The Doomsday machine aired, check your fact before you go off on one.

Frankly, I prefer the updated effects, now before you go off on one again, I grew up with Star Trek TOS, and I'm not afraid to say the effects look terrible by todays standards, and it's about time the updated them.

  • Love the new graphics. But HELP! They're mutilating dialog in a Texas Chainsaw Massacre type of way. I grew up watching TOS from its inception. I know the dialog. It's bad enough to lose the usual bits when any show goes into syndication-but THIS. How do you replace dialog with new graphics? Not dialog like 'It's beautiful here' - but PERTINENT STUFF like T'Pau asking Spock (Amok Time) 'Art thee Vulcan or art thee hhuuman?' About 4/5's of dialog was missing. MAKE THEM STOP!

  • I just watched Amok Time last night, there was no dialog missing.

  • Looks good but I don't get the warm, friendly feeling from it as watching the original. Too many things are being remade or enhanced now. ie indiana jones, batman, superman. I doubt the new updated graphics will attract new people anyway. And I just love the crappy choral sounds you hear when they beam to the purple, obvious set planets.

  • I LOVE the enhanced special effects that are being done by CBS/Paramount. Most notably...when the ship enters or leaves orbit of a planet ... WOW! The old one color planets and even the ones with land masses...now have cloud cover and detailed atmospheric effects. Just amazing. It's like seeing the series for the first time all over again!

  • Remastered Doomsday is amazing, great fx!

  • What a treat. I just saw the last half of this enhanced version of the "Doomsday Machine" and thought it was fantastic. New technology can greatly enhance older television fare which, in the case of Star Trek TOS, was perforce on a limited budget. I think this is wonderful!

  • Enjoyable and entertaining! Like the early days of sampling within the music industry, here we see what the future of breathing new life into original material and giving credit to the creators of the source material. Obviously there will be those who dispise it. But like everything, it is down to choice, if you don't like it don't watch it. In this example. I applaud the enhanced detail of the star ships that can only be achieved with the use of CGI. Is there more to come?

  • The CGI for this Refurbished simulation it's ok, but the real CBS Digital CGI created for several new episodes it's a mess. Very artificial, with bad virtual ilumination, looking weird and unnatural. They spoiled a good idea using cheap CGI.

  • Fascinating . . . The updated special effects clearly possess the power to charm and allure. Obviously captivating to many . . . except, perhaps series purists.

  • I'm an older TOS fan and I think this is a great idea as long as it doesn't detract from the original essence of the story. SFX enhancement are great but don't go overboard: Ships, explosions, phasers, torpedoes, etc. All fine, but what made TOS unique was indeed the cheesy colorful uniforms and other simple colors. Is this going to be released? With Paramount's blessing? If not, they should take note. A whole new way to sell the series over again. Good idea, for both the Exec$ and for the fans.

  • It looks sharp! But why do you have Doomsday Machine first show up right on top of the Enterprise? Don't they have sensors? Shouldn't they have seen it coming before it was "RIGHT THERE"? I think the scene would have more continuity as it was on the original episode; DDM is first shown at a distance and then quickly begins to close the gap before the Enterprise can react. This version makes it appear that the DDM just popped up right next to them. Aside from that small item, GREAT JOB!

  • I love the new graphics, I think they should be updated! they give a more 'real' interpretation of the vision of star trek and enhances the episodes missions. Like Herman Zimmerman said that if the original series had had TNG's capabilities it would have been a better show. However, the graphics cant be reinterpretted, and should accurately follow the original episodes!!!

  • I have seen this episode remade 5 different times and

with each remake they water down the point of the episode that winning a war at all cost can lead to a hollow victory. This is my all time favorite episode regreless of star trek series. We need to remrmber the point of this episode even now. Star Trek TOS is about the stories not the special effects.

  • Looks good to me, I don't see what all the Trekkies are crying about! The old fx were poor and on a shoestring budget. This seems like an attempt to fit it in with TNG, DS9, VGR and the like. They should be lapping this stuff up! Guess they'll hate seeing Kirk & Spock recast in the new prequel too!

  • What a waste of time...stuffing a few clips from one of the better episodes (in my opinion) of TOS and hoping it would be good...to be frank, it was shit.

  • ok I liked everything untill the tractor beam, and really the original doomsday machine was dumb looking but this is even worse.

  • i agree with shivelykegler.

  • I love that they did this the origional needed an overhaul to attract younger people

I can't wait for it to be on DVD

  • While some of the FX looks good, I agree with "popper666": It's sacrilege!

  • Although it looks good, it looks like cheap CGI crap and is a sacrilege, for messing with TOS and doing just to make some more money. As if all the other crap 'they' are doing isn't bad enough. (like making movies out of old series and all the rest) Welcome to the Future, tho. This will only become more and more status quo. Soon, even the characters will be redone as CGI.

  • I like it! As long as they also preserve the original untouched version then I'm ok with makin a few "improvements"

  • Lame - adding a few CGI flames and a tractor beam does not 'amazing' make, or even particularly refurbished. Between that and the constant fades, it looked like a 14-year-old did it all on his "I-edit" or something. Lame

  • what r u talking about, have u seen some of the effects shots that CBS digital has been doin 4 the remastered eps? this kicks ass in comparison! it kicks ass alone!

they even went above and beyond with updating the transporter effects, something CBS has left out of the picture

i sure as hell was impressed

  • Wow, this is the Star Trek answer to when Star Wars remastered all their footage.

I love the new transporter effects.

  • That was bang'n!!!! Love the new scene where the doomsday log was chasing both ships and the new fire from both. great detail, Question???? Can i get this somewhere or did someone just have the talent to do this on line?

  • Gene Roddenberry would have loved this. Heck, I never saw "Star Trek" in color until reruns in the mid 70s lol

  • I think the FX done by New Visual Effects if far superior to CBS's "remastered" version of Trek. Seeing this makes me wince at what the possibilities are for Trek but isn't realized by CBS. Great job and thanks!

  • This looks great, but I wish the interior of the ship looked a bit more futuristic. Thanks for posting!

  • I like that they didn't Lucas-ize it by making a totally new shot. They preserved the original shot, just made it CGI, but not to today's standards. People won't understand that, because they think TREK is supposed to be cheesy, but the fact is in 1966 it was State of the Art really, and the imperfections weren't noticable on a friggin ZENITH TV with Rabbit Ears when it broadcasted on NBC. This is fantastic and VERY WELL DONE!

  • very true, and most of those sets were black and white!

  • its about time the visuals were as good as the stories.

  • Well put.

  • Not only are the FX new, but they have digitized the rest from the original studio negatives! Great thinking!

  • Yeah, the planet killer could have used some major revamping. I can't complain about the rest of it. The kids might take to it better, and that's not a bad thing.

  • The show won't be the same without the old, cheesy effects.

  • Not bad, but the inside of the Enterprise still looks like it's made out of cardboard.

  • Is this for real or did you make it? I like the better special effects. The old series is the best but the effects aren't that great; the enhancements would be perfect.

  • The campy effects didn't INHANCE the series for me. Besides, you can watch the old versions if you want. I've already seen those, and these look really neat. I'd get them.

  • I spelled enhance wrong. oopsy.
