Just in case anyone is wondering, if your comparing any of this to Norma Jean, or The Number 12 Looks Like You, you really need to get your ears checked.  The Dillinger Escape Plan could be a relevant comparison, but these guys got so much more than just technical riffs. They got a lot of melody as well, different with each listen.

Whilst I appreciate the skill and technical aspect to their music, i just can't escapenthe fact that it all sounds too messy to me. I like technical playing but I also like listenable songs. Songwriting is the most important aspect of progressive bands and this just seems like playing for playings sake. Sorry if anyone takes that comment the wrong way.

@MrRafataff I can see how you might feel this is messy after having watched this video, have you ever listened to the studio recordings? Obviously they are much cleaner sounding than this and I think the parts all make alot more sense together. Also if you havent seen it already there is a Youtube video of Dan and Pin at a guitar clinic, playing the songs with all the other parts low in the backround, I thought listening to the guitars alone helped it all make alot more sense. Just some thoughts

I love DT. Black Clouds and Silver Linings was their return to greatness after systematic Chaos. The Number Twelve Looks Like you (Who also just broke up). Uh DIlinger Escape Plan, the first The Human Abstract album was pretty great, The Faceless which are a little more death metal, but still. Those are a few :P

I wouldn't call them mathcore just for the fact that they use a loose verse-chorus- bridge structure in a grand majority of their songs. Now don't get me wrong, they are great parts and amazing songs. Most math/metal/anycore doesn't use any type of structure like that. I wouldn't lump them into any group, really. Just awesome music.

The label of "math" applies to tempo changes and odd time signatures and time signature changes. It has little to do with choruses or verses. You're thinking prog. Math metal is often associated with technical playing because most people who have the creativity to make a song like i described play technical too.

In any case, what metalcore do you listen to that doesn't follow verse chorus bridge? You must be missing out on the entire mainstream part of it.

That's odd...but by bucks you must be American so in which case this could be true as SiKTH are an English based band.

Both are completely different...I like both but prefere DOADD because of the lyrical content and overall beefier sound...But Trees is equally as good...

It's best to buy Trees first but then again you might wanna get DOADD and then Trees and you may even prefere Trees...But if it's that much in the US then start with DOADD and go from there.
