@DCFundBud.... Who said anything about singing better or worse? Joan had a really distinctive voice, now if thats a good thing or not I guess is up to us as music lovers lol.
"sorry, I forgot to breate" and "it's a bit rattely"... the end of those sentences should be "... but I still sounds F*!@ING AWESOME"... this womaan is SO modest.
Hoy existen, maravillosas sopranos, ojala que duren tanto como la Stupenda...Dessay, Danrau, creo que son las mejores de lejos, hay otras que veo que se esfuerzan como la Netrebko....pero hay gran diferencia.
I think someone said this already but I luv this video because it shows that even though joan sutherland is one of tthe greats she made mistakes in her profesional career that I make in my student years ("I forgot to breath") best line ever because i say that 2)her mannerisms in between her singing reminds me of things i do
Oh yes.... that goes for her English as well. The consensus was they had traded diction for control of line and beauty of tone. I understand her earlier work, pre Richard, was more intelligible.
As usual, Dame Joan is great, the vocalizing is phenomenal but the problem is pronunciation, I can never make out a word she is saying, same in Italian where she can't lose the English accent.
I agree. LOVE Joan's vocal virtuosity. Her singing is like fireworks sometimes, isn't it? Alas, I'd really like to see some teeth. Her placement is very high, but quite far back throughout the extent of her range, & it seems she never allows for vowel modification when she descends from upper registers (where she truly reigned) in order to blend the registers, brighten the sound, clarify the diction, AND allow us to understand what the hell she was singing.
No no... These are the clips where she looks original and beautiful.. She only looks bad in the concerts where her dresses dont cover her shoulders.. It just makes her look like less of a lady...
She is really the best though... My goodness, What a powerful team her and her husband were! Amazing...
We miss you Miss Sutherland...

Great singing. Sutherland just tosses the
notes off like nothing. The tenor, Yordi
Ramiro (Mexican) so underrated, listen to
some of his stuff on youtube, beautiful voice, reminds me of Carraras.

Xoolkam, just to let you know that the tenor is Henri Wilden, a Mauritian.

She really shows both her outstanding talent, and her human side here. But good lord, Richard's hair during the 70's was /ridiculous/...haha.

personally i understand sutherland diction
i dont listen any mistake
the thing is thet maybe is because of her sinus and her operation that i hear a little the letter d in some words
but i think is because of her sinus

Lol I love how the tenor has his arms folded, ever so casusally. Her voice is electric, even in rehearsal.

Actually she is singing in French, Lakme is a French opera. And I can make out almost every word she is saying here.

Lol,thank you for the info:)),I know that Lakme is in French, I said her French diction is as her Italian... mushy.

oh sorry... I just hadn't read the word "same [in italian]" lol

It would be wonderful to see the E flat-moment. Otherwise, Joan is one of the best! I love her.

Wow. One thing is hearing this on CD, another is to see the notes actually produced, and coming out of her mouth! Its absolutely stunning!

Well, to be fair, she probably isn't wearing a lot of makeup, just for rehearsals.
