Doyle somehow had an indication that Laliberte was very weak. Hey this is Doyle Brunson you're talking about here! He is not in the habit of losing big stacks to amateurs with top pair and a flush draw. He had outs if he was wrong, but he was not playing just the cards, or the fact that his opponent is no pro, or even the way the guy plays in general. He saw noticed something specific or some combination of somethings.

@edify88 he is not very likely to win with a flush draw there at all. you are being way to results orientated. How often does doyle have the best hand there? Guy is basically turning his hand into bluff there, so doyle is basically bluffcatching with like 25% chance to win if he is behind which he obviously is a lot in that situation. maybe with reads and dynamics it feels like a call, but in a vacuum it is extremely ev- since guy is repping atleast better ace, more likely 2 pair or better.
