When I studied hypnosis that was the figure that was presented, that was in the middle 70's. I have heard nothing to dissuade me from that belief. Do you believe in reincarnation?
I'm just suspicious because that sounds very similar to the common myth that we only use 10% of our brains- you can look it up on snopes. No, I don't believe in reincarnation.
@WhisperGarden we only use about 10% of our brains. Scientifically proven. They use a device on a persons head to monitor brain activity through electrical impulses. While most of the brain is sending impulses, only about 8% is caused by a person thinking or performing a task, and 2% is auto-pilot reactions such as blinking, breathing, and even our subconscious. There is speculation that our subconscious mind can tap into the parts of the brain not in use, but no scientific evidence yet.
@BlakcNinja Hi BlakcNinja, I appreciate you taking the time to contribute. I have a degree in psychology and studied psychology at the graduate level for 2 years, so if you can talk about this in scientific terms, please do. By 'device', are you referring to an EEG?
I read your point as "Out of all of the impulses the brain is sending, 8% is thinking and 2% are autopilot reactions." What is the other 90% of the brain activity traceable to? What is your source of your information?
This looks quite interesting. I'll try it during my studytime and see how my exams go...

Where do you get the figure that the conscious mind is only 8% of consciousness? Could you elaborate on what you think that means?
