Has anyone noticed how in interviews (still 2 this day) that Paul is usually always doing something with his nails? like picking them or biting them? :D
@dance4ever231 I think if John was alive today he would see things a bit differently. He would understand and accept that he apart of something ground breaking that changed the world.
@JammerZice I'm sure you do sweetheart ,I was just answering your question, you know, the one with all the question marks?yea,no need for the rudeness,k?
@chrissalyn81 Not true, really. Free as a bird was done for the anthology(real love, too) and those were "beatles songs"they did say something like Julian and Sean would be sad,in case the beatles got together again, which is almost like mentioning his death
@albuorkka This comment makes no sense to me. It's clear if you look at the Anthology as a whole, no one talks about relationships or careers or anything else (including John's death) AFTER they broke up. And where in the Anthology was Julian's (let alone Sean's, since he was born in the 70s) feelings of a reunion ever brought up? All of that may be OpEd stuff from the press or whatever, but not within the Anthology itself, which is what I was responding to.
@chrissalyn81 While that is true, Paul even said himself that they somehow got together again for "Free as a bird". And Julian and Sean is mentioned 4:33-4:35, Paul says "I feel sorry for them". They are talking about band reunion at the present time(when the anthology was made). It's made quite clear in their conversation. Of course, since only 2 songs were made after the 60s,it's natural this anthology mainly concentrates on that period of time.
i think i could name most of the songs shown in the free as a bird video but some i couldn't get. I wonder what would've happened if Brian didn't die when he did
I agree it's sad. Someone once said that this was one of the tightest constructed album of the Beatles as the band was falling apart and Let It Be was a fiasco to work with. I was only 5 years old when the band broke-up. As I was growing up, the group felt like if they were a relative that you loved even though the band no longer existed.
The footage of that last photo session on the 22nd of August is rather sad to watch. They don't look very happy. I believe it was then on the 5th of September that John told them he was leaving the group.
I just finished watching the entire anthology. Truly great stuff, and I just want to thank excessaccess for posting this whole thing on here. I really appreciate it, and I'm glad you gave me a chance to see this thing, start to finish. Thank you.
@Lutoniro LOL I had the exact feeling, but I understand, it is a rock band after all....thought they don't realize that they mean the world to most of us...so much... we continue to love them until the end of our days...ahhhhh.....
if paul had said it or george, i wouldn't be moved at all i wouldn't think. it wouldn't seem sincere. but ringo's about to have a breakdown. it's like he just came to terms with it after all those years in that one moment. very very sad and honest.
Unlike George and John, who can sometimes play down things. And Paul would say anything to keep his name looking good in lights. I'm a John fan, but so many people say Ringo had a heart bigger than the Dover Cliffs.
Boy, please tell me I'm not an idiot for sitting here and crying like a baby, I just, sigh, love them so much but all things must come to an end and at least let's be glad that their last record was a fantabulous one, Abbey Road will always be my favorite for so many reasons. Long live to the best rock band this world will ever see and God bless these 4 amazing men, R.I.P John and George and let's thank God we still have Paul and Ringo =)
@fifiesponja07 You're not an idiot. I will always miss the anticipation of waiting for a new Beatles record to come out and the amazing reward you would get when you heard Rubber Soul or Revolver or Sgt. Peppers. The music would just blow you away. Just when you'd think they'd hit a peak, the new record would show you you hadn't heard anything yet. In the 60's a huge segment of the baby-boomer generation grew-up and came of age with The Beatles. They were universal in their appeal.
Pretty good documentary. As long as it was, there are a few things that I wished they would have flushed out a little bit more.
1) John Lennon's early days with the Quarrymen (pre-Paul, George)
2)The partnership of Lennon-McCartney when they were both still in school
3)Their struggles before Hamburg
4)Hamburg- one of, if not the most important part of the Beatles story and my personal favorite thing to read about in Beatle books, tons of great stories
I know people are going to laugh at me but I cried. This is so moving. Ringo: "Four guys who really loved eachother", so touching.. The Beatles will live on forever:)
when ringo talks of the love between him and the other 3 is real touchin,..to be clise to 3 people like them was special as it was, never mind bein in the beatles,..
@mollehhhx being a human being and being in touch with your feelings is nothing to be embarrassed about...it's just a testament to how much The beatles music was and is able to touch people in a universal way. It was a glorious time, and the music will always remind those of us who appreciate The Beatles of that.
When the song started that night on abc here in los angeles ,I cried and my then 3 year old didnt understand why.He now performs their music with me .We both play guitars. He sounds like George when he talks.
but looks like ringo..lol.I need my own studio.I remember when they were on someones roof when I was 7.
The beautiful thing about this Free as a Bird "videoclip" is the way the references are in there, and there´s really a lot of them. Someone who doesnt know a thing about the Beatles doesnt realize, but every single one of their landmarks is there... and some minor ones too.

Eran geniales, son geniales y serán geniales, las cosas son como son. NUnca le agradeceré suficiente a mi padre que nos pusiera de chicos las cintas a mi hermano y a mí para entretenernos. :D
of course im familiar with a day in the life... but ask yourself who blew their mind out?.... was it paul? its known that he drove that same ashton martin. i think its a conspiracy. look up that series on youtube called the rotten apple... wierd shit.
on behalf of the citizen of the future earth where love is the only currency, hunger is a memory, and war is non-existent, IF YOU EVER SPEAK ILL OF JOHN WINSTON LENNON IN A PUBLIC FORUM EVER AGAIN IN YOURE LIFE MAY YOURE CHILDREN GROW UP BEING LIFE LONG MILEY CYRUS FAN CLUB MEMBERS!!!!!!!......you've been warned....
Ringo comes across unbelievably human in this series, especially in the later episodes. You hear tales about how he treated his wives, but I can only comment on what I know of him, and he seems to be an amalgamation of all the best qualities of the other three. He has George's acerbic, dry-as-the-Sahara wit, sensitivity and humanity; he has Paul's geniality and "the show must go on" showbiz attitude, and he also has John's sense of the absurd and childlike nature.
Straight from the horse's mouth: "I trashed Barbara so bad I thought she was dead. They just found her covered in blood and I'd beaten her up and I'd no idea" Then again, Paul and John have both been accused of being wifebeaters at certain times, too.
Well this explains a lot..."By 1988, they were in real trouble,as a friend explained:
"Their biggest problem was alcohol. They've both been drinking heavily every day for years. Ringo and Barbara also are cocaine users. Ringo had been snorting up to a gram of coke a day and Barbara said she'd been using about half a gram daily. "
"He also smoked marijuana every day and used hallucinogenics, mushrooms and downers. Ringo said that since they'd been married virtually all they've done is sit in a room and use drugs. Barbara revealed that it was the number one priority in their lives - more important than family, more important than each other, more important than anything. Both said they were convinced they were gonna die unless they got help."
After that quote about him beating up his wife, the article says, "He immediately decided it was time they sorted themselves out and got Bach to book them into a rehabilitation clinic. Ringo was so paranoid from his coke use that he refused to let her out of his sight for a minute, so the couple insisted on being in the same room at the start of the treatment (which no treatment center would allow)."
I think I can forgive him for that. As a fan I'm very dissapointed to find this out. But he was obviously influenced by drugs and was not aware of it. He and his wife are still together, so it's a good sign that love conquers all. It was not like he was a Chris Brown who did it on purpose. Ringo was high on drugs and heavily influenced.
@jim25shwp screw that raw-boned bitch. she was never good for paul and every interview I saw her in with or without paul, I couldn't figure the attraction. She a real nasty bitch.
What stars where aligned for those four talents to have lived in the same city, then get together and for a band... Destiny I assume... G P and J will go down as 3 of the top 5 men in Rock history as far as I am concerned... there;s probably a lot of arguments against that... but what they did is truly staggering
I like to compare them to Bobby Orr in the NHL haha... short time together yet so much greatness accomplished... so many influenced...You can't keep talent like that together... too bad
it's seems like the beatles were bound to end. Their success seemed to get to them somehow. They weren't together for as long as some other bands from that period. But, just the fact that they were soo popular and successful that they had to stop live performing, shows that their time was limited.
They exemplified what is missing from popular art these days -- what is good and admirable about mankind. Love. Peace. Kindness. Compassion. Music that put into words the ideas that make us better. Give us a chance to improve.
Rebellion is not the answer, unless it's to rebel against the evil of mankind. Not one side or the other.
At 7:12 you can see John in the crowd of people.

Ringo comes across unbelievably human in this series, especially in the later episodes. You hear tales about how he treated his wives, but I can only comment on what I know of him, and he seems to be an amalgamation of all the best qualities of the other three. He has George's acerbic, dry-as-the-Sahara wit, sensitivity and humanity; he has Paul's geniality and "the show must go on" showbiz attitude, and he also has John's sense of the absurd and childlike nature.
simulation2k 2 years ago 11
That's what I always liked about Ringo. He almost never fit the "drummers are insane" stereotype, in music or in interviews.
Riosan2415 2 years ago 10
What tales of how he treated his wives?
Xmenfan246 2 years ago
Straight from the horse's mouth: "I trashed Barbara so bad I thought she was dead. They just found her covered in blood and I'd beaten her up and I'd no idea" Then again, Paul and John have both been accused of being wifebeaters at certain times, too.
simulation2k 2 years ago
Well this explains a lot..."By 1988, they were in real trouble,as a friend explained:
"Their biggest problem was alcohol. They've both been drinking heavily every day for years. Ringo and Barbara also are cocaine users. Ringo had been snorting up to a gram of coke a day and Barbara said she'd been using about half a gram daily. "
Xmenfan246 2 years ago
"He also smoked marijuana every day and used hallucinogenics, mushrooms and downers. Ringo said that since they'd been married virtually all they've done is sit in a room and use drugs. Barbara revealed that it was the number one priority in their lives - more important than family, more important than each other, more important than anything. Both said they were convinced they were gonna die unless they got help."
Xmenfan246 2 years ago
After that quote about him beating up his wife, the article says, "He immediately decided it was time they sorted themselves out and got Bach to book them into a rehabilitation clinic. Ringo was so paranoid from his coke use that he refused to let her out of his sight for a minute, so the couple insisted on being in the same room at the start of the treatment (which no treatment center would allow)."
Xmenfan246 2 years ago
I think I can forgive him for that. As a fan I'm very dissapointed to find this out. But he was obviously influenced by drugs and was not aware of it. He and his wife are still together, so it's a good sign that love conquers all. It was not like he was a Chris Brown who did it on purpose. Ringo was high on drugs and heavily influenced.

Heather Mills accused Paul so definately not true. Paul wouldn't lift his hands to a woman,

What stars where aligned for those four talents to have lived in the same city, then get together and for a band... Destiny I assume... G P and J will go down as 3 of the top 5 men in Rock history as far as I am concerned... there;s probably a lot of arguments against that... but what they did is truly staggering
I like to compare them to Bobby Orr in the NHL haha... short time together yet so much greatness accomplished... so many influenced...You can't keep talent like that together... too bad

kovy2117 3 years ago 7
it's seems like the beatles were bound to end.

Goohuman 3 years ago 7
