I've seen this at least twice this week on TV (and taped it). and it's on again tonight. I was drawn (no pun intended) to it, which is why I've watched it each time.
We should have done something like that over here but we didn't have the CIA dropping acid into our universities... so far as I know (I am a bit too young).
wow! flashback.... i remember how colorful '76 was, the psychedelic thing had completely gone from 60's underground to commercial mainstream..... everything seemed to get painted over night.....all the fire hydrants and mail boxes got a psychedelic face-lift by the high school kids... thanks for posting....that impossible star at the end IS amazing!
@rubix71 I remember the fire hydrant painting and all the re enactments of Revolutionary war battles.America caught Bicentennial fever even before 1976. I remember in 1973 when was in grade school,a teacher had a son who had his own band. They made a single called Happy Birthday USA" and she handed a 45 copy out to her students
This was the '70s. This was the music of that era. Also, some music that sounds great while on LSD sounds quite shitty when sober. Considering the trippy nature of this video, I seriously wonder if this was ever intended to be watched while not on LSD... which is weird for a government-sponsored vid ;-)

My favorite parts were the flashing buffalo and the horn of plenty of hot dogs.
