  • Very nice, is there something special in the bible you held?

  • @Gargamelim Thank you for your kind words. Best of Health, Wealth, and Happiness to you and your family for the Holiday Season and throughout the New Year. Keep your Faith.

  • @Gargamelim The greatest musicians are inspired by faith. Blind Willie Johnson was pure religion.

Christian Evangelists taught southern blind black people how to read braille.all they had/could read was the bible.

  • @kaptainbastard Thank you for sharing. Yes, considering the hardships he endured in his life, it is easy to hear through his recordings he was clearly moved by a greater power than himself. Out of the Mud, the Lotus blooms in the Pure Light. Happy Holidays. Keep your Faith. Enjoy the Season.

  • @KeniLeeBurgess ''a greater power than himself''.I understand that, thanks brother. You play like that too.play and sing without fault.

    .

Happy Christmass Happy holidays Happy winter solstice.and Happy new year to you.

  • @kaptainbastard Your words are very kind and encouraging. Thank you.

  • @kaptainbastard I understand that and am aware that allot of other music I like is religion based (Masses by Bach Pachelbel and even earlier/later) I was just wondering if there was something special in that particular bible..

  • @Gargamelim I received this Bible when I attended a local Gospel Revival. A friend's band was performing there. I went home, inspired to perform and post this video. Many times people are truly trying to share, what they think is important, with very good intentions. Even though a gift might not be completely appropriate, it is definitely the thought that counts. May your life go well. Enjoy the Holiday Season.

  • @Gargamelim The Bible is simply a book. What is really important is how you are inspired by it. Some use it to elevate themselves above others. Some elevate it above themselves and use it as a weapon against others. While others use it to wash the inside of their cup and see other people simply as themselves. Keep your Faith.

  • @KeniLeeBurgess whoa. that was eloquent.

  • @Seaofcouches Thank you for your kind words. Enjoy.

  • Excellent job! Thank you for the vids, I watch them always. greetings from Argentina.

  • Keni- your playing is very inspiring, as is your nice collection of guitars! Are there tabs available for this song or for any of your open D slide versions?

  • @MATTWARM Thank you for your interest and comment. I hope to eventually tab out more of my renditions, but have you seen my instructional video CDs? On them I teach songs, but more importantly, I teach the techniques and musical theory I use to figure out songs and create my own covers. I believe if you work through the lessons, experimenting with the information, you will have no problem figuring out this song. Feel free to write if you have further questions. Enjoy your practice.

  • I've been watching this video for a few years... and it's still so fresh every time I come back to it, that pure shattered soul sound only blues like this can truly capture. What is the tuning on the guitar?

  • @84Pravda Thank you for your encouraging comments. I am tuned in Vestapol Tuning. This is also known as Open D Tuning (DADf#ad). Although, I usually tune down a whole step to the key of C for my voice. CGCegc.

    Enjoy.

  • TOO clear too clean . BLIND WILLIE is far AHEAD of his time.

ZEP introduced me to this song BLIND WILLIE JOHNSNON R.I.P.

  • @fastacid714 Thank you for your comment. Enjoy.

  • nice cover man. I've been cheating and playing with a pick. Trying to learn BLJ's finger pick style.

  • @gmayer90 Thank you for your comment. Yes, traditionally bottleneck style was played in the fingerpicking style creating two lines of music, but I know many plectrum players who developed their ability to pick using their free fingers while still holding the pick. Enjoy your practice.

  • Friend, that was really something good.

  • @romeedee Thank you for taking the time to comment. Greatly appreciated. Enjoy.

  • Great cover! Thank you for crediting Blind Willie. I love Zep but saw on one of their videos tonight Page/Plant as the writers. I hadn't noticed it before. I hadn't heard Blind Willie Johnson's version of his own song before. I can't believe they put their name out there. That hurts. Your slide sounds great and the entire song sounds great. I sort of took the Bible to be a reprimand to the artists who took someone else's song as their own! Thanks for the post.

  • @MyMoppet52 Thank you for your comment. I was not aware that Zep did not credit BWJ. The Stones did not credit Fred McDowell's You Got To Move either. I received the Bible while attending a local Gospel Revival. I was moved to record this video. Simply the message is, "Make good choices in your life because ultimately it is your own fault what happens to you." Keep your Faith. Enjoy.

  • @KeniLeeBurgess Hi again. Wanted to clear something up. Zep put their name (Plant/Page) as the composers of the song over the lyrics which I had just seen written on Blind Willie's version. The exact same lyrics! That is much different than not giving credit to someone. That is TAKING credit for someone else's work. I was shocked to see "Page/Plant" at the top of the written lyrics on that song as the composers. I think it hit me hard because I had just been on Blind Willie's site & I love Zep.

  • @MyMoppet52 I understand. There has been legal issues surrounding copyright of songs for a long long time. Little Richard's battle with Disney over TUTTI FRUTTI. Arthur Crudup Original Version of THAT'S All RIGHT MAMA covered by Elvis. It is a very titious world of lawyers and courtrooms.

  • @MyMoppet52While it seems Zep is taking credit for Blind Willie, they simply hold the copyright to their own recorded version of the song of the same name, which features different lyrics in the verses, and difference in the orchestration and instrumentation. I'm not saying Zep didn't intend to borrow/use any lyrics/melody in from Blind Willie, thats a common characteristic of blues musicians. Also, the BW is public domain, which means no one actually owns it. No infringement on any parties.

  • @BobXDarker Thank you for your comment. I not that knowledgable about all this, but it basically comes down to someone who claims the rights to a song suing. For my CD, Good & Evil I paid for a mechanical license to have the right to print 2500 copies of 14 cover songs. It is all a matter of researching through the Harry Fox Agency and securing the right to cover the songs. Enjoy.

  • Hi KeniLee! I've watched your videos for years, first found you when I was doing some searches on Led Zeppelin. I appreciate your connecting this music and the cigar boxes are great!

  • @poikaa3 Thank you for your response and continued interest. I hope you didn't mind the email. I send them out pretty routinely. It is impossible to remember everyone. LOL I grew up listening to Zep. I remember the first time I heard them. Me and a friend sneaked into his older brother's room to listen to his records. Nothing like the first time you get into music as a teenager. I must of listened to Black Dog 1000s of times since then. Enjoy.

  • when you threw the Bible out there I wrote you off, but then I listened, you have a gift God given or not, you rock. just saying.

  • @video4good Thank you for your interest. I was invited by a friend to attend a local Gospel Revival. Everyone, including myself was given a copy of this Bible. When I came home I was inspired to record this song. Interesting how easy it is to "judge someone" from just a 2 minute video. LOL I would like to think I have a litte more dimension in the big picture. Keep your Faith. Enjoy.

  • Soulful !

  • @heroncarver1 Thank you. Enjoy.

  • That was great man, keep it up.

  • @saldanhafillipe123 Thank you for your interest and comment. Enjoy.

  • @funnyrocker13 Thank you for your interest and question. This guitar is an Oscar Schmidt Stella model. It was made circa 1920/30. Enjoy.

  • what book was that titled "holy bible"?

  • @sicknessguitar87 Thank you for your question. I was invited by a friend to attend a local Gospel Revival. Everyone, including myself was given a copy of this Bible. When I came home I was inspired to record this song. "I have a Bible in my home...I have a Bible in my home...If I don't read, my soul be lost and...its nobody's fault but mine" Happy New Year 2011. Keep Your Faith.

  • @KeniLeeBurgess it's kind hard to break your enthusiasm but i was being ironic... im not a religious person...

  • @sicknessguitar87 Thank you for your response. Sometimes it is rather difficult to fully understand the intent of people's comments. Serious or light hearted, they are all appreciated. Thank you. Enjoy.

  • Sounds great! You even dressed up up Willie. Makes me want to go practice my guitar

  • @lightwriter58 Thank you for your comment. Yes, get out that guitar, tune her up, and start bustin' those strings! Happy Holidays. Enjoy.

  • I wish you would do the whole rendition with all the lyrics...this is just awesome man!!!

  • @crackawise Thank you for your comment. Usually playing on the street I do more verses, but to be perfectly honest, with so many songs floating around in my head, it is sometimes difficult to remember all the lyrics and not mix and match them together sometimes. My memory ain't what it use to be. LOL Happy Holidays. Enjoy.

  • @bluesmandoc Thank you. This is a very nice compliment. I greatly appreciate that you took the time to write and encourage my efforts. I love playing and singing this old style of solo performance. When I perform there is only the moment. All the trials and tribulations of the past and future do not exist. It provides an escape from all my woes. Enjoy.
