  • Why did you say, "I always thought Canadians were just lazy French. At least in France they spend all their energy paying the world off. France, only seconded to America on being most hated world wide" darkswn01?....smh......Aren't you canadian?

  • Superman was created by a Canadian.

  • My biggest nitpick about this is that the classic intro "Stronger than a locomotive! Faster than a speeding bullet! Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound!" was actually conceived by Fleischer Studios when they did the (awesome) Superman cartoons in 1941. Here it's a cute nod, but a little inaccurate.

  • Let's face it: Yes, Superman was created by a Canadian, but it would have never worked in Canada as it had in the US. In Canada he'd simply have been known as Man. Not nearly as marketable. :)

  • lol at 0:53

  • this is a complete fabrication! Joe Shuster left Canada at age 8, and the concept of Superman was formed a decade later with his American friend, in America!

  • Is this really what Canadians are being taught as history?!?!? No wonder they all vehemently defend the absurd notion that Superman is Canadian, because they're being told that. I really hope these aren't government made. If so, then I want no part in socialized medicine if the price I'm gonna pay is having facts perversely twisted, and then fed to me...no thank you. I feel more compassion for you guys up there now, blatantly being lied to like this. This is wrong. Someone should do something!

  • Superman is as American as our flag, or National Anthem. I don't know how this is even an issue. I'll admit that he his character has Canadian ties and inspirations, but he was created right in Cleveland, Ohio by an American, and a Canadian-American. Why do Canadians have such a hard time accepting that fact. I copied this from a Canadian's blog site: "But the truth of the matter is that Superman has no business with Canada: he's an American hero through-and-through, donning the red and blue"

  • @BigCougar76 It's just saying that he has Canadian roots too, simple as that. The Americans made Superman the powerhouse he is today, but is origins has ties with Canada, it's not that hard to fathom.

  • @wonphi When I said "his character has Canadian ties and inspirations" I misspoke. I meant to say parts of the Superman mythos has Canadian ties to it; like the city of Toronto, and its Daily Star paper, and that's about it. This video seems to imply that he thought of Superman in Cleveland, and brought it to Toronto to perfect it. That is NOT how it happened at all. His family were Jewish Canadians not making it in Toronto, and at the age of 10, his family permanently moved to Cleveland.

  • @BigCougar76 Yes, I gotcha. I never thought of Superman as a "Canadian" hero, but I do acknowledge that a man that has ties with Canada was part of the creation of the world renowned hero. these heritage videos are just to express to people that are ignorant of little details like this, it isn't trying to take credit away from anyone.

  • @wonphi And since he moved there at 10, he really did 90% of his growing up as an American. Superman's "character" where he stands up against wrongs was most likely created on June 2, 1932, the night when Jerry Siegel's father died during a robbery at his jewelry store in Cleveland. Canada's influence on Superman as a whole was minimal at best. I mean you don't see Americans trying to claim Canadian Mounties, do you? I wouldn't have a problem with it if it was more truthful, and less misleading.

  • @BigCougar76 Like I said, Americans made Superman who he is today, but that still doesn't discredit the fact that a Canadian had involvement with him, which is what this film piece was about. It wasn't saying Superman is Canadian, it was just showing who that person was, & how he is associated with Superman. There weren't any words saying Superman is Canadian, that is just taking it out of ignorance for those that think so. I mean, America has British roots but it isn't British, now a days.

  • So my main problem is that it's videos like this, or even ideas similar to, that greatly exaggerate Canada's involvement in creating Superman. So this really sheds some light as to why I'm always running into that idea on message boards. It is not a part of Canadian "heritage" like the video falsely claims. You can't claim something as part of your heritage because someone that co-created something spent a few years where he was self aware there. Eskimos and Moose, sure. Superman, no. Sorry, eh!

  • @BigCougar76 Again, you are taking things out of context. They are NOT claiming Superman is Canadian, they are saying that the guy going in the train is Canadian, and has involvement in the creation of Superman. Like I said it's not that hard to Fathom, unless you are totally viewing this with some kind of biased point of view. Now you sound like an ignorant generic with your eskimo and moose comment, don't tell me you are that ignorant of different topics.

  • @wonphi But that's my point, it wasn't until after Superman was created, in the United States, that Schuster returned to Canada. He was an American. A Canadian born American. Or Canadian-American, if you will. I'm taking nothing out of context, and was trying to watch it with an open mind. But the date of this shows Cleveland 1931 - Superman wasn't thought of until 1932. So the video is trying to say that he thought of Superman. He drew him, yes, but did not write his story.

  • @BigCougar76: Geez Louise, do you like making most Americans look this ignorant of the rest of the world on purpose, or does it come naturally?

  • @Neville6000 I know a great deal about world history. I love how probably the most informed person here is being called "ignorant" lol...I never said that Shuster wasn't born in Canada, he got a lot of his artistic inspiration from there. But if you watch this video objectively, and without bias or knowledge of where he was created, the average person would come away thinking that he was created in Canada. And he wasn't. The ideas of Superman, and the people he fights for, was born in Ohio.

  • @Neville6000 please try reading all of the facts before you attempt to come at me...lol

  • @wonphi and as a matter of fact, it was Siegel that literally pulled the drawing of Superman that we love today out of a fire when Schuster tried to burn it out of frustration. Maybe the eskimos and moose were a bit over the top, but I was putting it into perspective. It's just wrong how it was portrayed, that's all.

  • @wonphi Saying anything more than "Joe Schuster was born in Canada. While a very small child Toronto, along with its Daily Star were an inspiration for the city of Metropolis because it left a lasting impression on him. His family struggling in Canada, moved to Cleveland while he was at the age of 9-10. He then helped create Superman, as a Canadian-American, in 1932. After leaving Canada in 1924(circa), it was not until the 1940's - long after Superman was created, that he returned to Canada"

  • @wonphi My main issue is all of the false information in the video.

  • America stealing Canadian based characters, just like Winnie the Pooh.

  • I remember reading about how the creator of Superman did so after he wasn't able to stop a burglar from killing his father (who was shot dead while he wasn't there), who was working at his shop at the time. He decided to create a hero that is faster and stronger than anything and wished he was like Superman to save his dad.

  • Not to state the obvious, but the drawing would be worth 'something' today.

  • I miss these commecials

  • superman is jewish, not canadian :P

  • @TonyAKA30 the jews are cowards

  • @Seigu007 I agree! I'm not jewish.

  • @TonyAKA30 Jewish isn't a nationality you dipshit! It's a religion

  • @RazorCell7 "Jewish" is also an ethnicity

  • @TonyAKA30 Jesus.. you didn't do very good in school did you?

  • There's an interview with one of the creators of the Shuster Comic Book Awards in next month's issue of the Mosaik Project magazine. Spoiler Alert: He says this is complete BS.

  • Is this serious? Or a spoof...?

  • @jkrupa23 It's serious!

  • So Jimmy Olson created Superman? no wonder he seems to have such a man crush on him in the comics

  • @macgregorns Things you didn't invent: rational political discourse and grammar, apparently.

  • He he he! A funny conversation my friend and I had over facebook:

M: I have learnt that superman is actually canadian! Ha ha beat that Americans, a canadian invented him!

F:hehehe man in tights will never take off

Me: He does look a bit like a drag queen!

    F:he does as well!

M: I'll never be able to look at him without loling now! ' It's a bird! It's a plane! No! It's the half girl half boy drag queen!'

F: Hehehe The word is heamaphrodite

M:Lol I'll put this on utube and see what people say!

  • The one person who dislikes this must be an Republican American because they cannot get over that we, meaning Canadians, came up with Superman

  • @macgregorns Jerry Siegel was not Canadian. Shuster was born in canada but moved to the US when he was ten.

  • @macgregorns Hate to break this to you, but Superman was co-created. Joe Shuster, the artist, was born in Canada, yes, but he moved to Cleveland, Ohio at the age of 10. It was there that he met Cleveland born Jerry Seigel, the writer, and they created Superman together right there in Cleveland. If this chance meeting had not occurred, Superman most likely would have never existed. Ergo, Superman is an American creation. :-D

  • Superman sings....

I AM YOU KNOW I AM

    I AM CANADIAN!!!!

  • yay go canada

  • Did he Superman here later that night?

  • haaay biitchess

  • i am superman

  • I repeat: The Superman Exists, and he is American, but he was born in Canada.

  • @XeutonMojukai superman can survive even in the us since he does not need health care security

  • Superman is also half Jewish

  • Hes not "just a co-creator" dont down play Joe Shuster and recognize the contribution. He based the Daily Planet on the Toronto Star even. We're not "taking" credit, more so we're showing our contributions. Besides Toronto is a has a large Comic book community.

  • @HeyPoi Silver Snail? :)

  • @HeyPoi - This video is ridiculous. The Canadian propaganda here misleads the viewer into believing that Superman was created in Canada by a Canadian when it wasn't. Why are Canadians so desperate for recognition all the time. It gives the impression of an inferiority complex.

  • @shimokita2 Actually no it doesn't if you can't notice that he's not even in Canada, its clearly says in the beginning "Cleveland, Ohio - 1931". Ha ha nice try though, look before your leap boy.

  • @shimokita2 I know they've gotta just learn to be they're own-culture and not try so hard to be claiming credit for things Americans have done. They don't like it obviously when Americans try too hard to be them!!!

  • This is like Canada claiming credit for Basketball. Yes, the inventor was from Canada, but he'd been living in the US for years before he created the game and all subsequent changes to the rules were done in America.

  • louis lone

  • i've always thought he was created by an American

  • and that's why canadians rock...end of story

  • awesome we invented superman!

  • @rathalosrevenge70 not exactly.... Shuster is canadian, yes but the other dude involved in the creation of Superman is Jerry Siegel whom is an american. So.....we canadians are only half responsible for superman ;)

  • @hachman182 True but Shuster made Metropolis based off Toronto and the Planet based off the Toronto Star so we're worth slightly more then half.

  • people, please. ok, the man lived in canada for 10 years. i'm not comfortable giving canada credit for this. more importantly, he borrowed money from his jewish cousin in toronto.

  • woo hoo we own superman

suck it America ha ha ha.

  • CANADIANS INVENTED TALENT

  • Now that I watch this as an adult, I can't help but think..wow, they paid for the legit john williams theme, that musta been pricey for a Canadian historical PSA

  • Yeah! Superman's Canadian! Hahah. Irony... All-American super-hero was created in part by a Canadian.

  • which episode is this can anyone upload the whole?

  • thats right he is canadian..!

  • @jamemorden or anybody can you people tell me which episode is this?

  • yeah it's true superman was created half by a canadian..... i don't know why it's so hard for my fellow americans to except that?

  • copywrites seem to be a problem with Americans... especially since the 'Man in the Moon' was duped by one Thomas Edison. Too bad Superman remains FREE, is the man of steel and can fly higher then a kite.

  • superman was created by american writer jerry siegel & a canadian artist joe shutter. joe shutter come to the u.s to find a better career he live & die in the u.s. the siegel family own part of the copyright. shutter descendant american born own some of it. if a superman movie is not made by 2011 siegel family will own all.

  • what?! we invented SUPERMAN? i learn something everyday!

  • Who plays Lois in this clip? It looks a lot like the woman who played Lois in Superman I.

By the way, some of the Superman films (like #2) were filmed in Canada.

  • Actually, Joe Shuster was the artist for superman, not the writer for it. In that, he was not very successful in his career because thse damn americans keep taking his copyrights. However, the american comic book hall of fame did included him on it and canada comic book award assiociation did created the joe shuster awards because of him.

  • this and the train explosion are the only ones i remembered from my childhood. I love these things! Brings back fond memories.

  • @simensays it was not a train that exploded.

  • did i say train, i meant ship

  • i love these things their so cool

  • ya we invented superman.. eat that american bitches lol

  • @BigG99

Yeah I know, their reaction to that was too invent Captain America who is gay and sucks balls!

  • @BigG99 Fuckin' A!

  • @BigG99 Technically, Superman is a "duel citizen". Jerry Siegl is american. Superman was originally a villian in a short story and Lex Luthor was the good guy! XD

  • @BigG99 Damn straight lol

  • @BigG99 basketball too suck on that

  • @BigG99 I'm surprised you got so many thumbs up but your statement is actually wrong. Shuster was not known as a canadian unless he told people specifically since he was actually raised in the USA since he was ten years old. Plus, he wan only one half of the team that invented Superman. Jerry Siegel was 100% American. So I guess you can say that Superman was 25% canadian at best.

  • @BigG99 Plus, America invented and has accomplished far many more things than Canada.

  • @fiveoscar your right but macaroni doesnt count lol..... its what was invented not how much was invented.. did you know canada also invented the telephone! which is why you can talk to me know on this thing you call the internet.

  • @BigG99 You're right. The internet and the top ten websites on earth don't count neither I guess. Nor does putting a man on the moon. And a scot invented the phone. But that does not mean Bell deserves credit for the internet, stupid. If that's the case, you can backtrack to the guy who invented the telegraph, then backtrack again to the guy who invented copper cable, and so on. lol How lame. Good try though.

  • @fiveoscar yes but canada still invented superman! eat it ! lol

  • @BigG99 How so. What if out of the two guys that invented superman one was 100% Canadian and the other was only half American?? would the US then get credit for superman?? Of course not. Making such argument would be pathetic. Stupid really.

  • @fiveoscar oh gosh my friend let it go! im just giving my american neighbors to the south a friendly jab :).

  • @BigG99 Then don't get mad if your neighbor jabs back. You wanna dish it out, you better know how to take it also.

  • @fiveoscar im not mad.. i just dont want to take this convo to a serious place.. doesnt need to lol

  • @BigG99

no they didn't this video is false , he was made int he US with another American.

  • @narutocaprirequest2 ha ha ok buddy lo whatever you say

    lol

  • @BigG99

created by a Canadian with a U.S citizens ship and a American , if you don't believe me look it up your self.

  • @narutocaprirequest2 yes a canadian none the less.. you need to realise that there are a whole lot of canadians who have come to america and changed it for the better after becoming dual citizens. however they are still canadian through and through

  • @BigG99

im not debating with you now man i just woe up, piece out

  • @BigG99

he got a U.S citizenship when he made him and it was two people who made him, a American and a Canadian American bitch

  • This kid did a great job acting, but for some reason I always thought they should have cast Micheal J. Fox, and he's Canadian too so that helps.

They got Dan Akroyd to do the Avro Arrow commercial.

  • They made a movie about the avro arrow. It was clips from the movie they used for the commerical

  • And to think lois thought i would never be popular and now look at today

  • Suck on THAT, Metropolis!!!

  • one of my fav of the heritage clips thanks for posting :)

  • How the hell did superman end up in the states then?

  • money. Sadly. Same with lightbulbs.

  • the writer was american, the cartoonist was canadian

  • He flew, duh.

  • Clever...

  • I'm not a lumberjack, though I could be with these guns. I'm not a fur trader, I prefer spandex. Idon't live in a... well, I sort of do live in an igloo..... I speak English and French, and every other language from the 28 known galaxies. I pronounce it about, I wear boots!

  • I can proudly sew my countries' flag on my back pack... using a special super strong Kryptonian material. I believe in peace keeping not policing, in fact, my father discovered an alternative dimension for our criminals as to avoid the barbaric death penalty.

  • I can lift a chesterfield over my head with one finger, and I can out fight any character from Dragonball "Zed!" Canada is the second largest land mass and I happen to own a place up there. My design and many of my character traits were created by Canadian Joe Shuster! My Name is Kal-El, Clark Kent, and Superman, and I AM CANADIAN!

  • I love this commercial...I'm already proud to be Canadian, but this commercial just makes me happy

  • like Shamwow's?

  • A few moments after the train left...she sneezed on the drawing.

  • I love these haven't seemn them in years. Do you have the one about General Phipps (French guy fighting english soldier quebec I think 1800's) or the woman who tried to reform the prison

  • rctsos the rectum

  • Superman is Kryptonian. Joe Shuster was Canadian (well, half Canadian anyway).

  • Superman was half American Jerry Siegel and half Canadian Joe Shuster. Actually technically Superman is Jewish lol.

  • Like the barby.

  • that's so cool.

  • Everything is made in China.

  • Does anyone know if they have the paraodies of these heritage minutes on youtube?? i think they had them on comedy network and they were called sacrilege moments?

  • why is it that the majority of the Canadian creations end up in America as 'American Past times'? >.>

  • Because American are trying to buy our best company's and movies out.

  • Canada invented the tree, too.

  • Yes we did and christmas trees

  • AND we invented Korea

  • @Wolfcritic64 we did

  • @Wolfcritic64 LMFAO salute! lol love it.

  • @Wolfcritic64 i remember that! the tree was an awesome canadian invention.

  • @Wolfcritic64 how do you invent a tree just asking ... do u mean paper?

  • Damn right that drawing would be worth something

  • Superman was crate by a Canadian

  • no shit

  • apple pie is canadian as well

  • Basketball is Canadian. Don't argue that one.

  • Who said that?? There is a video showing that too lol

  • Superman IS Canadian. Why do you think it isn't?

  • Up up & away, eh?

    ROFLMAO

  • lol yup.

  • No one stole anything. Seigel and Schuster sold it to DC Comics.

  • Ummm...a lot! :-D

I'd say it would easily be worth several million dollars, but it's impossible to say because it's real value is whatever anyone is willing to pay for it.

  • You know, the production and acting in many of these spots was pretty good. I think this one was my favourite.

  • yah no kidding, The Daily Planet = Globe and Mail, Metropolis = Toronto! Bloody yanks!

  • This is so awesome...They really should make a full movie about the Seigel and Shuster story.

  • I'd Watch that

  • Thats Adam Reid of YCDTOTV

  • These were not funded by the government but The Bronfmann Foundation in Montreal under "The CRB Foundation Heritage Project initiave."

  • Funnier than a racist jerk posting random crap. Oh wait... isn't everybody?

  • Does anyone know where you can find the parody versions? I think the Comedy Network came out with a few parodies of this one, winnie the pooh amd the dicovery of Canada.

  • One of the only great entertainments the Canadian government ever funded. These heritage moments were fantastic!

  • These were not funded by the government but The Bronfmann Foundation in Montreal under "The CRB Foundation Heritage Project initiave."

  • WOOT!WOOT! i loooove superman! ya go superman:)

  • Can't wait until they made one about the M1 Garand.

  • guys, lighten up

  • Fun fact: The actor playing Joe Shuster here is You Can't Do That on Television's very own Adam Reid.

  • Ha! I knew I recognized that kid from somewhere. I loved that show and you know what? He would have made one helluva great Jimmy Olsen!

  • He was on You Cant do That on Television.

  • Uh yeah, no shit. What did you think I was talking about?

  • sorry I did not see that first reply

  • Haha, it's cool. I figured as much...I was just messing around. :p
