Neil must be getting a bit rocky in his old age, just check out his version of adam sandler's "the hanakka song" (i think thats how you spell it). I've always maintained that neil diamond cound do rock if he really wanted to, just listen to his voice.
Even before Manfred Mann did this song, there were at least two other versions. One was by a girl group called the Exciters, and the other was by the song's writers, Jeff Barry & Ellie Greenwich, under the name of the Raindrops. In fact, Jeff & Ellie were thinking of putting their version out as a single until the Manfred Mann version came out.
@johncuschieri I hear ya! I am a big Neil fan but there is nothing like watching Manfred Mann and Paul Jones do this song. One of my favorite videos. There was a video off them up a few years ago that got taken down. It always made me smile to see Paul Jones shaking those maracas and jumping. There is a similar video but not quite the same. Wish I could find the old one again. It was the first video I ever added to favorites on YouTube.
When Kerri-Ann started kindergarten age, we would sing this song outside where ever we went. xo
