  • I so agree with you irishrobotmoster! So many many many amazing songs!Phils music will live on forever!Love him!!!!

  • im gonna track down and murder 4 people

  • Thanks a million!!

  • This is proof that Lizzy is the true meaning of music...

  • Love the guy!!!Missing you Phil!!!!!!!Your music lives on forever!30 years i have been listening to you!!You the Best!!!!!

  • Love it!!!!! love love love :))) from GA!

  • up the irons for THIN LIZZY

  • So sad this tune. Can really relate because my family are upset because of my drug addiction.

  • @Jarri2 ditto :/

  • Better still than Queen & Lizzy was Lizzy & Graham Parker!!

  • DONT BE SO INAME PHIL, WE ALL KNOW THAT YOU ARE THE ONLY REAL 'WILD ONE''! NOT A DAY GOES BY I DONT LOOK AT MY THIN LIZZY TATT AND THINK OF YOU AND MY DAD, GOD BLESS AND SEE YA'S BOTH UP THERE! X

  • I now 48 yrs young and have seen loads of bands, singers of all types as you do as you go through life,, and here are my top three ratings of all ive seen.... DA DA DAAAA coming in at number 3,,,, its Queen,, Freddie was a one off,,, Coming in at number 2 its the Stereophonics,, tell you people so so good live,,, but ladies and gents, live there can only and will ever only be one act that hits the top notch,, yep take a bow Mr Phillip Parris Lynott and the Lizzy boys,, great stuff thanks

  • @MrTinlizzy - Talking about Queen. I would love to have heard Phil Lynott (after the breakup of Thin Lizzy) on a mid 80's Queen album. Maybe "The Works". A well written song with Freddie & Phil just as "Under Pressure" with David Bowie. That would have been awesome !

  • @GeorgVanHalen Or Brian May playing on a Phil Lynott song, that would have been bitchin'.

  • I absolutely love love this song, the live version is so much better, Thin Lizzy is a beautiful thing! I wish Phil was still with us!

  • The best line up in my opinion. And this song always gets me emotional.

  • 2 guitars playing exactly the same thing, unusual and cool, they looked and played so damn good together

  • Actually they did NOT play the same thing, that is what the lizzy sound is all about...

  • 2 guitar players in a band can go one of 3 ways, they can weave, like the stones,or go one strictly rhythm one strictly lead like AC/DC or both play exactly the same thing...like this!!

  • They don't play exactly the same, I don't know the exact English word for it, but in Denmark it is called 'to play with more voices'. It is a very common thing to do in music generally, both with singing and backing vocals and with instruments. Thin Lizzy did it with 2 guitars and made their remarkable and unforgetable sound. If you ever tried to play these things on a guitar (or any other instrument), you would know what I'm talking about.

  • Now I remember the words: Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson is 'playing in harmony' on this track and that means they don't play exactly the same.

  • @jakobkuli Yes, It's a 1/4 octave harmony and i think that somehow they have a contrast of major and minor keys between the two of them. Listen to " Emerald" from the Jailbreak cd with a good pair of headphones, when they play the main melody in the middle of the song, pull one earcup off your right ear, then go back and do the same with the left. You will hear a few notes different . Their harmonies are the most difficult to play !

  • waow, what an amazing live version, i LOVE this song. Philo, in my opinion, was one of the best lyricists ever to pick up a pen. great stuff :)

  • Thin Lizzy-the words demand respect!!!

  • An indescribable level of badassedness. Those are the words that come to mind when I hear this. Will there ever be a group like Thin Lizzy again?

  • THIN LIZZY FUCKIN ROCK

  • I love this song. I saw them open for Queen in L.A. many years ago.

  • you are one lucky son of a bitch.

  • nooooooooooooo i clicked on the wrong hand!!!!!! and im jealous. was it in '76?

  • Yes but I would give you 100 queens for one of these.

  • Saw them on tour with Queen around '76 or '77.

Queen were great, but Thin Lizzy kicked their ---!

No other group could play like Thin Lizzy!

    They set the standard!

  • @musikfanat Queen and Thin Lizzy together? Fuck, my head just exploded.

  • @NoRulesInNam It was one of the greatest shows ever!

  • phil's voice is lovely in this one

  • best

  • they should release this show in DVD

  • i hope they will cause this is almost as good as L&D

  • It's a shame that here in the US ,TL never got the radio play of all their other great songs. So many people are unaware here of songs like "Johnny" "Bad Rep" "Rocky" etc. I play these songs for friends and people I meet and it's like new territory.

  • nice one 12groney, keep the faith.

  • Does anybody know what phaseshifter that Lizzy used? They used them alot especially on the "Jailbreak " albumn. Please don't guess, reply only if you know for sure, thanx.

  • This is hauntingly sad & AMAZING!!! RIP PHIL!

Aguably the MOST UNDERRATED & UNSUNG R&R BAND! AMAZING!

  • Love u Forever Out Here xxxx

  • oh yeah, Brian was 19 here...as a fellow guitarist it pisses me off he was that good & i wasn't at nineteen.

Love the 2 boys - they really made it work.

LP Deluxes...mini-hums. Like a single coil Les Paul. Add a 70s Marshall & your a wild one too.

  • @talpajam i should correct myself...NOT single coils..just mini-humbuckers with their own special tone..

epic band...still can't believe Robertson was only 18 or 19 in this shot...what a talent...hell they were all young men. Downey is still tops in my book along with Ginger Baker...the 2 swingingest cats in rock drumming.

  • You should hear the song u can tell Scott's about to kick off after this beauty...For Those Who Love to Live off of Fighting as well.

.."up jumped Jack, on the railroad track - said i've got to get outta town"

What a cat - miss him here in Tx since day one.

  • they have had a long way to go to the TOP, really sorry about the end...thanks for showing!

  • Fuckin beautiful. Nightlife and Fighting were the 2 greatest classic rock albums ever made. Hands down.

  • THIS IS MY FAVORITE LIZZY ALBUM!!! "FIGHTING" sooo underrated!!!! Check out "Freedom Song"!

  • it's really sad that most people only know 'boys are back in town' and 'whiskey in the jar'. they have so many better songs

  • @irishrobotmonster I agree, the people that only know those two songs from this great band, are really missing out and they should get the back catalog of all the releases.

  • amazing, THIN LIZZY FOREVER

  • Damn I love this song, those duel guitars are incredible. Thin Lizzy's music will live FOREVER.

  • Makes me proud to be Irish.

    We love ya Phil, RIP.

  • I wanna be Irish too lol

  • iam only 21 from dublin and iam a big thin lizzy fan this is a one of a kind song it touches me deep inside i think i was born in the wrong decade id only wish i could of seen theese guys live this song blows away any kind of songs now a days this is real music id only wish they where still around now we wouldnt have to be listen to fake shit like westlife on the radio this band was the most under rated band ever phil and the lads will be allways my no1 band in the world

  • The thing that I appreciate most in Phil Lynott is that he doesn't give up his deeply romantic side (even in the heaviest tunes). And I'm amazed also at his way of letting his bass play the acoustic guitar part.

  • Totally.

Phil actually played all the acoustic guitar parts on Thin Lizzy records. He has a certain strumming technique with bass & acoustic that's really distinctive.

Anyone new to Lizzy who digs this tune should check out:

Romeo & The Lonely Girl; Fight or Fall; With Love; Dear Lord. All great laid back Lizzy tunes that still have a nice beat driving it along.

  • Did he play the acoustic on "Borderline" ? I love the sound on that !

  • R.I.P Phil Lynott you Legend.

  • see Gary doing the hair thing long before Slash lol.

  • eh thats robbo lol

  • yah, you're right my mistake, its all that hair, could be anyone behind that lot lol, thanks!

  • thanks for taking it so well, far be it from me to be a mr know-it-all!

  • Cool, love this song and vid, this is raw live performing at its best, thanks for posting this gem waddockhunt.

  • my absolute favourite lizzy tune. all time

  • that lyric really touches me deep.

all the lines in between, says a million words...

  • Don't want to start up this arguement again, but Phil only really discoverd drugs when Thin Lizzy were recording Black Rose in Paris in 1979 so he wasn't doing drugs for a 15 years. At most 7 years. Not much better but it had to be stated.

  • Comment removed

  • Many great musicians hve taken drugs such as Jimi Hendrix,Elvis,Keith Richards and others. Do they deserve more time? And what about millions of people around the world who take drugs? What gives any of us the right to say who deserves time and who doesn't

  • My point, again, is some people think that stars that take drugs deserve more time than regular people, or people who died in other ways. This is not what I believe, and I don't think that makes me "fucked-up". It's just my opinion, just like you have yours.

  • Phil lynott, Luke Kelly, Jimi Hendrix, Rory Gallagher and Arthur Guinness all time greats.

  • Great great peformance,Phil thanks for the music, the great times, and memories they invoke,

"How can we carry on now you are gone our Wild one?.....

  • Phil Lynott was a great songwriter too. He'd reference CuCullen and then write these crime dramas and tough guy tunes and you just bought it,man b/c the delivery was so goddamn real.Phil would've busted a cap in 50cent's ass anyday. This song,as bittersweet as it is, is probably my favorite Lizzy tune.

  • I love this song. RIP Phil.

  • Most underrated band of all time. Simply breathtaking guitar work, without such harmonies and power, metal would not exist

  • Man they just seem so relaxed, they knew they were GREAT!

  • I want to thank Waddockhunt for posting

this stuff from 75! This my favorite

    lineup of Lizzy. Cheers!

  • It's the only Lizzy lineup IMO, though the Gary Moore/Scott Gorham era was a good combo too. After all Moore did that beautiful solo on Still In Love With You. I read the Thin Lizzy biography The Rocker, and I have to see I was a bit teary eyed at the end when reading of Phils death all those years ago, the guy was an absolute genius.

  • philo will always be da best thing this country has ever produced so fuck da lot of yous

  • RIP Phil! Whats done is done. While I am terribly sad Phil is gone, blacksabfan is right, he did it to himself. If you watch the videos from their early career with eric bell you can actually see phil deteriorate from then to his later videos with john sykes. Same thing with hendrix and and jim morrison too.

  • Hard drugs and the destruction they reap are awful.Legalize pot so what.

None of us will really know what demons Phil Lynott had within him.He seemed too proud to tell the world about it and so his escape through drugs became public knowledge when it was obvious he was losing the battle.

Such a sad story, imagine what he could have achieved.

Pure genuis and my ultimate rock hero.

RIP Philo we love ya man!!

  • burn in hell sabfan. sabbath would be ashamed of you. change your name loser.

  • Burn in hell...just because I don't feel he deserved a longer life because he did drugs for 15 years...I know people that died because of drunk drivers and people that were innocent and died from accidents...those people deserve more time...not people that abuse drugs and die. Get your priorities straight asshole.

  • I just read this after I made the car wreck comment which to me, affirms what I just said and for the record - I have lost half of my friends to drugs....RIP, everyones bodies and genetics are differnt. When did Phils dad die ? I'll bet $ it was before 65... lots of factors played into this mans demise ---> women, fame, fortune, and not to even mention he gave everything he had to the fans ....us. By the time he realized what he had done it very may have been too late... see ya in church mang ;^)

  • Yeah that's true, but it doesn't really matter how good your body is if you do that much coke and heroin for that long. The only thing that killed Lynott was prolonged drug abuse, which has a 100% success rate if you do those types of drugs that long. People come across like I'm disrespecting Lynott...no, he was a great musician, one of my favorites, but my sympathies lie with his mother, his fans, and people that die from other things that weren't their own doing...not with Lynott himself.

  • So the final word is don't ever have a weak moment and get addicted to something that will kill you...period.

By the way do you drink or smoke ?

Some of us will not live long prosperous lives ...it's called population control... cough cough hack sniff sizzle ahhhhhhh

Like Savoy Brown said ...you married to H your married for life. I'm going to eat a handful of aspirin - lol

  • hey blacksabfan why the fuck would you rather have phil lynott dead than alive he was the greatest musician ever so fuck you

  • I'm not saying I'd rather have him dead. Can't you read? I've read Putterford's book and yeah...he abused himself to the point where he knew he was gonna die and was giving away his most prized possessions at the end. If Lynott wasn't famous, you wouldn't give a shit. If a non-famous person did drugs over 15 years and died, you'd probably at best not care, and at worst say 'good riddence'. Just because someone is famous doesn't make them "more deserving".

  • Phil Lynott rules, he deserved a longer life...

  • asshole shut the fuck up, ur talking about someones life.

ozzy osbourne done shitloads more drugs than phil lynott. just the way life kicks u in the ass...

but no need for that assman, change ur name u disrespectful young boy.

  • Of course Phil Lynott deserved more time. Everybody does.Blacksabfan do you think Phil wanted to do all those drugs? Of course not but he couldn't stop. Just because he made a mistake, like everybody does in their lives, he doesn't deserve to live? That's a fucked up mentality.

  • Probably not once he knew he was gonna die. Before then though he took them without a second thought. I'm sorry that it upsets you but the harsh reality of it all is "no, he didn't deserve more time." The man destroyed himself and you can point fingers at others, but at the end, the only one to blame is the one who took the drugs. I'm a Lynott fan, go look in my channel, but I'm also a realist.

And no, not everyone deserves more time. We have population problems as it is.

  • As far as making mistakes...everytime Lynott took another hit, he was making a mistake. I wasn't just one mistake, it was the repetition of the same mistake over and over. Unforuntely he was never given a big enough scare to get off the drugs.

  • It was not a repetition of mistakes. If giving up drugs was as easy as make it out to be it wouldn't be so dangerous. You make it sound as if Phil was an evil person who didn't care about the harm his addiction was causing his loved ones but I'm sure that is not the case. He tried to stop.

  • Did you even read what I said before???

My beef is that if it wasn't Phil Lynott, he'd be demonized. Or you wouldn't give a shit. I just don't think that because he was a rock star that was loved by millions, that he should get anymore time than some non-famous person. That's been my point the entire time. I guess because I don't create biases based on how famous someone was before they died that means I have a "fucked-up mentality".

This comes from one of the biggest Lizzy fans there is.

  • Never did I say Phil Lynott deserved more time because he was famous I just think its wrong to say he doesn't deserve to live because he did drugs. I am not biased and have made no indications that I am so. I am simply saying its unfair you have deemed Phil Lynott as imperfect and not worthy enough to live which seems very wrong.

  • I didn't say he wasn't worthy enough to live. I said he didn't deserve anymore time than what he was given. I would say that about anyone who abused drugs that long. Yes, it's hard to quit, but I guess it's a matter of will and what's more important to you, now isn't it? If you think it's wrong, so be it. I don't. I'm just tired of all the hero worship. The man did impressive stuff in his life, made several mistakes, didn't listen to the warnings, and died. Seems like no fault but his own.

  • Good civil conversation, between you guys

    keep it up!

  • Well whether Phil deserved more time or not doesn't matter now. The most important thing is remember him for his musical abilities and genius. That is what he would have wanted.

  • correction - his dear mother deserved to have her son live a longer life.

Had he a better Doctor he would still be alive and well.

Philo would not appreciate the bickering from any of you so ....kick back and go your own ways but keep it tuned to the LIZ !

  • Right. His mother deserved it. Although I don't know about the doctor thing.

  • Life is full of addiction...half our grandparents are opiate addicts.

You and I are a car wreck away from being Morphine addicts.

I could write a hundred things to make you think differently about your thoughts...

I have been a major Sabbath fan since 1975 and thats 31 years my friend and I can tell you that at 12 years of age they affected me greatly in a negative way as well as a good one... but I digress.

  • The car wreck thing isn't a choice though. Ever listen to Thin Lizzy's songs? Lynott knew damn well he was dying and that what he was doing wasn't good. Did he stop? No. Why? Who knows. Some people get wrapped up in the hero worship thing where anything that remotely questions blind praise is subjected to several "thumbs down" comments. Whatever. At least I know MY priorities are straight.

  • How can we carry on when you are gone?

  • this is the greatest Thin Lizzy song ever.... R.I.P. Phil.... Does anyone have tabs for this awesome song?

  • You don't need tabs...I worked this out when I was 16 - Lizzy harmonies are simple to work out. Mostly major scale intervals...day out for grannies !!

  • This track ROCKS! ..... as you know!

    Another one for our vault...

    Check out Michael C. Ruppert.

  • I LOVE YOU TUBE !!! This footage is golden bro. Thanks for putting this up. RIP Phil. There will NEVER be another; not even close, or a half decent imitation.

  • Philo was INSANELY charismatic, wasn't he?

This is probably my favorite Lizzy tune; it captures everything that made them unique: Evocative lyrics, a mesmerizing, soulful vocal, and a guitar soli section (twin-leads playing simultaneous "solos") that reaches into some hitherto unreachable place in my heart and stirs my Irish blood.

God love you, Philo. You'll never be forgotten.

  • Now this is a goddamned rock band. Johnny the Fox meets Jimmy the Weed. Yeah baby.

  • He was OUR Wild One ppl. xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • I was lucky.I saw them twice in Chicago in the '70s. Can't think of any other bands that could top them live!

  • This song should never have ever been dropped from the Lizzy set

  • wow, r.e.o. speedwagon was once a rockin' band.

  • this is THIN LIZZY not r.e.o. speedwagon

  • ..........................

  • Been a Lizzy fan since I was 10 and heard 'Jailbreak' on American radio in '76. Their stuff still sounds as good today and fan loyalty seems diehard. A real testament to Philo. Can't wait for the Vibe in '08. Gotta watch all these great vid's before they take 'em down...

  • can,t get enough...phil,god bless

  • Goddam i've been listening to Thin Lizzy since i was born... im 15 now and still love them
