I think it gives the song a touch of ironic sadness, highlighting the melancholy lyrics by placing them in opposition to a light-hearted, rather silly events on screen. Maybe this is a way of expressing the duality of life, that it is often comedy accompanied by tragedy (or vice-versa). Of course, that's just my opinion....
