  • Hello. I am really considering going natural. I really want to do so. I tried it about two years ago and it didnt work for me because I didnt know about youtube and had not read up enough on it. I went an entire year without a retouch but never made the big chop. But what is with these numbers?? B4, 3c, 4a?? LOL I mean really, I do not know. . Im sure its related to the curl pattern but how do you determine your curl pattern.

  • i know it's been a while since this video but i was reading through your comments and people are referring to your texture quite a bit. i don't know if you've found this out because i haven't been through all 37 of your vids yet but enough to want to tell you that it's possible to have more than one texture on the same head. i'm 9 months post bc (from bald) and i have at least 3 textures.. really curly in the back, wavy on the sides and damn near straight on top.

  • @tknlyg thank u for noticing...yes i have 2 different textures of hair...ive gotten a lot more serious about my hair care and regimen so ive finally noticed them...but most of my head is 4b and the back of head is about a 4a,3c and grows a lot faster then the front....i had that same problem wit my ends being str8 they still are but im waiting tot cut them

  • Wow...two months...it grew fast for two months....I'm about to start the same journey! Yay!

  • @PepperPoppers she said 9 months

  • To mychell: If you are having problems with the edges and don't necessarily like the small curls, I would try using alcohol free gel such as IC styling gel, and a 100% boar brush. I would hate for u to put a relaxer only on the edges, and end up having it look weird or accidentally going farther back than u anticipated.

  • if i only perm the edges. Am i still natural?

  • YEAH!!!!!! you're natural. Naturals have more fun. Love it. Peace, love, tranquility, and Free to be you.

  • girl when you first popped up on screen you scared me, Then I took notice of your natural hair, How much has it grown today? are you still natural? Please let me know.

    I'm a natural sister too.

  • @chicagolowe yes it has ill be posting a video this week so look out for that

  • @chicagolowe and im sorry for scaring u..lol...it was early in the am..lol

  • hey girl, there you are. I had only seen your going natural video. I didn't check back, but great to see you doing so well. I hear ya about the straight ends. Too tru. I had that problem for a lot of strands even though I bc'd and did a trim later. Oh well. It's comin together now after 6+ months.

  • aww your natural 2....natural is beautiful

  • a little uneducated on natural hair...what is a bc?

  • bc means big chop

  • Big Chop... thats when you first chop all of the relaxed hair out leaving the new natural growth to show

  • wooo! i know this is a late response, but it means Big Chop. cutting off all your relaxed (straight) hair, usually before your natural (curly) hair is long. so it's BIG deal to some.

  • i think its straight on thee top cuz u str8in ya hair 2 much..its heat damage

  • I haven't str8ened my hair since my bc

  • @brownsuga0618 at this point you still have perm pieces in your hair. The perm is also going to take a while to actually grow out of your hair .Depending on how long you been perming it the longer it will take.

  • So I decided to go to the barber shop and let them do it. They did an awesome job. Now I am REALLY natural and enjoying every moment. I use all natural products like shea butter, coconut water, milk and oil. My hair loves it. You should consider having your real BC done at a barbershop. Once that is done you can experiment will products to release your natural curl/texture. Good Luck sweetheart : )

  • Hey thnks so much for the advice I actually only had a couple str8 ends so when I went to get my twists done my stylist cut them for me...so now I'm fully natural yay! Lol

  • Yay! : )

  • Hey sweetie, congrats on trying to embrace your "nappurality"! : ) Very happy for you. Unfortunately you may have to do another big chop... I know... :::yikes!::: lol. But you do have relaxed ends left. In order to really go natural you need to chop ALL of your relaxed ends off until you hit your new growth, I did my big chop at home myself and my hair was the same way. I couldnt take it. It wasnt in it's full natural state.

  • what exactly is bc?

  • stands for "Big Chop".

it's basically cutting all the perm'd/relaxed hair. :)

  • i need a perm instead of my natural hair????

  • lol, no way! don't get a perm! rock that natural doo..ur prettiful :)

    God Bless

  • @nadiraandleahtube WHAT! The whole point of her BC, i'm guessing, it to go natural. Why would she want to but a perm in it!?

  • Personally, I like to use "Botanicals light moisturizing creme" for my hair and "I't A Black Thang Shining and conditioning Gel" for the ends. Pantene has an awesome line of products out for black/natural hair called "Pantene PRO-V Relaxed and Natural" I buy the shampoo and conditioner.

  • Shit, ure hot girl :)

  • THANK U :)

  • Ur welcome :)

  • Hi im new to youtube but i love the natural hair videos. Im now in my 10 month of having natural hair. When i did the BC in june my stylist told me that the straight ends that i had were a mixed texture of hair .... it grew out my hair is very full and thick and for the most part I love it .. I am thinking about coloring it this summer. Hope i helped (:

  • what does "bc" mean?

  • "Big Chop". I means a women or a man has gone to a barber/hairsylist (or did it themselves) to cut off the perm ends of their hair, leaving the natural growth behind.

  • i have the same thing where my ends are straight...I wonder why that is

  • are you guys flat-ironing your hair? I know after i did my BC my hair had straight ends. they curled back after a while. but i have heard of some people who straighten while transitioning. when they chop they cut of more because they can't tell the difference from relaxed hair and the heat damaged "straight looking" natural hair. do you think you may have heat damage if you've flatiron?

  • Im doing research on natural hair and trying to decide how im going to go by doing the process... i know this question may be dumb but What is BC? i keep hearing it and just dont know what it mean.

  • BC- means big chop, when ur going from perm/relaxed hair to natural lol the name speaks 4 itself ;P chopping off all that hair 4 natural <3 after doing the BC u dun need 2 perm ur hair no more! saves money :)

  • Thanks... i know what the big chop is i just thought that maybe after the cut people are putting something in the hair because they say after the bc my hair looks like.....(,,,,,,) lol thanks again

  • your natural hair is gorgeous girl, keep conditiioning daily am and pm and sealing with natural oil :) do not forget to deep conditioner at least once a week. I really wish you the best luck, you are very nice, we love your videos and you and your family is beautiful too.

  • I just did my BC 2/20/09 and the stylist said that there will still be permed ends...not much but throughout the head...you can trim them gradually, they'll eventually go away :)

  • yay im haitian to!!!...well my parents lol!!

  • soorry i know im probably gonna sound stupid but im from the U.K. so u no but anyway what is a BC?

  • BC stands 4 Big Chop, cutting off all the relaxed hair and wearing your hair in it's natural state..

  • thank u

  • its weird my ends are straight as well. i will cut and its still straight. does anyone know how i can cure it?

  • Heyy watching your vids inspired me to cut :) cause i guess perms dont work well with me at all...its been four weeks and i have about half an inch...im excited for my four months :)

  • thanks great to hear! sounds like ur hair grows fast!

  • Interesting update. You have an accent..where are originally from...or your parents?

  • im from ny but my parents are from haiti

  • really good progress!!

  • great growth!

  • *.........Its funny coz i heard u ask in one of ur videos if it was really needed for the big chop and i feel its not needed coz i also heared that sometimes your hair can forget how long it was and may not even grow to the lenght it was when it was relaxed. I didnt do the BC and my hair grew out fine the relaxer all dropped off by it self and my BC turned into a little chop right at the end of about 1inch...lol

Your hairs looking good....keep it goin girl.

  • MISSSHESHE/ Everyone hair is different just depend on how you take care of it.

  • Yeah thats very true...most def. I just feel that the BC is not compulsory.

  • LOL...I don't know about your hair forgetting how long it was...I mean its hair if its taken care of properly it will continue to grow...LOL

But how long did you transition??? And how long was your hair???

  • Mmmm im not to sure about it my self but thats wot i have heard....and due to that i didnt do a BC. Althou i didnt to a BC my hair grow out fine... I transitions for 2 years and snipped off the last inch of my relaxed hair right at the end. My hair grew to about 13 inchs (remember hair grows about half an inch a month so 24months = about 12 inch of hair) and thats what it was when it was relaxed.

  • that's great...i'm also transitioning without doing the BC and that's what i want (to be able to avoid the BC altogether). so i see it is possible i hope i am as lucky as you were.

  • yeah i know wot you mean about the ends....that how mine was...thats exactly want it is (relaxer). There is still a lil bit of relaxed hair on the ends....its reall hard to find where the natural hair ends but i would advice you leave the ends as they are as if you cut it right now it will be sooooo hard to plait your hair all the way to the ends (as the fresh natural hair is sooo thick all the way to the end) and you might have to start getting lil black hair bands out...lol.........*

  • hey girl!!! good to see u!

  • hey me and u have the same shea butter.. i jus put it on my face rite now. yes those ends relaxed u wud have to go to the barber and have them shape it for u... thas wat i did the day after i chopped i got a a shape up.. i need a weave so my hair grow. ur hair grew alot that is great!!!!!

  • great progress hun - looks like you have a lil realxed end still just rim same with mine just trim i and it should be gone in no time xx

  • NO homo but you have beautiful features, perfect for a nice full afro!

  • wow i like it when you did your big chop.... i have to find that video.
