Yea, i guess i'm just repeating what most people are saying, but yea porcelain heart was better, but this song is definitely a really unique and sick sounding version....very well done
Freakin cool. I like porcelain better though. Would have been nice to have had this tagged to the end of the album I think. As a long time fan I can say Watershed was my favorite Opeth since Still Life.
Did I ever say it was fucking jazz metal? No, I said it had jazz influences. Yeah I know he loves classic prog rock. But that doesn't mean that's where he gets all his inspiration from.
did anyone say that Mikael gets all his inspiration from 70s progressive rock? and what has that got to do with anything? Damnation sure as hell ain't a result of plenty of jazz-listening. the fact that 70s prog in general had some jazz influences (thinking king crimson and yes) is something else, making a 'jazz' reference to Damnation barely accurate.
I'm pretty sure saying "it's PURE 70's INFLUENCED progressive rock" means he gets his inspiration from that genre.
Fine. You know what? You win. I'm sick of fucking petty fights with people who act like they actually know Mikael Akerfeldt. Or any band for that matter. It's fucking youtube dude. You can believe what you want, and I'll believe what I want. Just chill and stop trying to start fights with people to boost your ego.
Well, you are correct, I was speaking about damnation, not Åkerfeldt. And to be honest, even though a great album, I wish he could've been a little more open-minded during the making (I'm not saying I know him, I only listen to his albums fcs), since it's kind of marred by its repetitiveness and too obvious pattern. Maybe you were offended, but I wasnt picking or boosting anything. Damnation is only a parenthesis anyway, Ghost Reveries and Watershed are the real masterpieces and make Opeth nr 1
It's beautiful. I already regard Watershed as the most beautiful, sonically dynamic Opeth recording ever, and this brings an eerie touch that I can only describe as a good progression from their experimentation on "Weakness" from Damnation.
I like Porcelain Heart version.

Someone needs to put the two versions together to see if they can fit as one song.

This song sounds so creepy and strange, specially when he sings (I... lost all I had...) since im so used to having the drums/guitar in the back...

I hope Opeth do a follow up to Damnation, i loved their style on that album, really unique, like "doom art rock"
PhysicalKashmir 3 years ago
That's the thing...it was unique. They're not going to make another copy because it's already been done.
And "doom art rock"? It was definitely more of a blues/jazz album if you ask me.
3lraro 3 years ago
Yeah.... Doom Art Rock would be guys in corpse paint crying all over and making gay sludge. Damnation was definitely much more jazz influenced.

you're all fucking wrong. it's pure 70s influenced progressive rock, morons, what's with all the pretentious classifications?
