I will say this most players hit homeruns because they aren't comfortable with each other in doing the little things. It takes two to make things go right. Guy on first needs to be comfortable at the batter that he will make the play to get him to second. Vice-versa. Players trusted Aaron in that he was going to make the play with his bat whether its a grounder or a liner that nobody's is going to catch.
lol 1:07...but ur right though all of a sudden mark maguire and sammy sosa just broke roger maris's record...the barry bond got pissed off that they were getting all the attention so he got jacked up on sterroids and broke mcguires record. AND THEY ALL CHEATED.
Case and point being Prince Fielder (who hasn't hit as many homers this year) pay close attention every time he has a 2 strike count. he will drill his ass so far in to the ground to try and crush one, My theory is he has absolutely no 2-strike approach so he swings his ass off and in doing so, pulls his head away from the ball (if you can't see it, you can't hit it) that's why he has so fewer homers compared to last year.
Baseball players are not stupid, but I would agree that some players are just worrying about hitting home runs. But Baseball need competition and when there is someone that is trying to break records and made it without cheating is more power to them. You'll know what I'm talking about when you see me in the MLB. Believe that!
Albert Pujols is still the best player in baseball. Yes, he does always try to hit homeruns but, he can still for average (career .334 average to go along with 371 HRs) but, my favorite player right now, easily is Hanley Ramirez. The guys 26 and is already (arguably) the best SS right now. I don't get to watch many Marlins games but, from what I have seen this guy will be good for a LONG time
I wonder what proportion of runs are scored in mlb by homeruns compared to other times in history. I'm a Twins fan and suddenly we've got a grip of monsters crushin' the bawl.
To me, baseball is an old man sport that was "the old ball game" 100 years ago. Things change, like how in the 50's racing was cool and hip, now racing has the hick stereotype. Really baseball is the pitcher and catcher doing all the work, so many out of shape guys in baseball for it being a pro sport.
That's be great if teams were to concentrate on the "fundamentals", it leaves the organizations that focus on plate discipline with an easier way to win the game. The higher the OBP and SLG is, the more runs you score.
The Hammer is right completely! Baseball players are still treating the game like it's the 90's/early 00s when the HR totals were just crazy high! MLB needs to return to the days where stolen bases, sacrifice bunts, strategical hitting actually mattered and it could be doing that with the HR totals decreasing lately.
But what can I say. After all, chicks dig the longball.
Alfonso Soriano is an example of someone that basically doesn't understand batting and just tries to destroy the ball every time he's up. Hes a bum cuz he doesn't know how to bat like a good baseball player
Hank couldn't be more right. I call him a baseball expert, as he knew exactly what to do on the field and in the batting order. Everyone swings for the fences. I was checking out a couple videos... and I found one guy who does this all the time in Fenway: DUSTIN PEDROIA! The guy is a midget and tries to hit over the Green Monster.
One reason why I love the way Mike Scioscia manages is because he works fundamentals. He works with speed, contact, sac bunts, the hit and run... all that good stuff.
i agree hank Aaron is the all time home run leader in my opinion but to be honest back in the day these guys hitting these balls out of the park every night go me interested in baseball again. Now its kind of old and i would like to see some actually baseball being played now instead of all these swinging for the fences plays.
He's right in terms of batting order. Players early in the lineup don't concentrate enough on drawing walks or stolen bases, every player tries to be a power hitter.
Honestly i think its the way the game has evolved. Its a different kind of game now days. i Think the game is slowly getting back to the basics. You don't see HRs like you did during the 90s boom.
the home run rate wont go down if you play at yankee stadium, and yes i do agree that pros swing for the fences because they want the glory that others have
baseball is my favorite sport and then basketball ! its not a boring sport you just gotta think a little when you play it.
