The song alludes to the street names that non-Southern Californians have trouble pronouncing... like Pico (mispronounced Pick-o), Sepulveda (Sepple-VE-da), Doheny (Do-HENN-ee), Cahuenga (kah-hoo-EEN-ga), etc. The "Tar Pits" was added on to "La Brea" just for the fun of it. :-)

Felix Figueroa and His Orchestra is the artist on the label. Dr. Demento said tonight that it was a collaboration between bandleader Freddie Martin and songwriter Jule Styne. Yes, the video is very clever and creative!

I hate to correct the Good Doctor, but it was actually Eddie Maxwell who co-wrote it with Jule Styne. Eddie wrote the captivating music and Jule wrote the clever lyrics. Also, "Freddie Martin" was the name that Felix Figueroa later used professionally.
