The shocking ineffectiveness of "Everyday Mathematics"

This was stupid!!! I could ask my 9 year old if he remembered all the words in a song from class today, and I will guess he cannot. But if I ask him to recite twinke twinkle little star which he hasn't sang in 7 years I know he can. The argument put forth was asinine. How absolutely bias can people be? So many parents think they were taught the best and only method, but are as stubborn and as closed minded as can be. Grow up people and move forward.

To: Christianware01- ask your child's teacher to give you the login and password for everydaymathonlinedotcom so you can access the SRB at home (also the games and algorithm animations). Dividing with friendly numbers is a way of splitting a division problem into two easy-to-solve problems that can be done in your head rather than on paper.

My 5th grader uses Everyday Mathematics... It is horrifying! Today we divided using "Friendly Numbers" this is the biggest waste of brain cells EVER! It made no sense! To top it off, our school has this year started having our children tear out their daily home links not allowing them to bring home the whole book. It is also not in their practice for them to send home the student reference book. If they expect us as parents to help them with this homework what are we supposed to do! Frustrating

I have been so horrified about my child's math performance in her school which uses Every Day Math to teach mathematics. She is struggling horribly with it. The only way that she learns the new concepts is if we (her parents) teach the concept all over again and work with her to ensure she gets the topic.

I HATE the Everyday Mathematics curriculum. Absolute nightmare and HUGE waste of our taxpayer dollars - and a disaster for our children!!!!!!!!
