  • Thumbs up if your BT internet is about 0.12Mbps!

I can't even watch this video, it takes my 17 seconds to load google, and 19 seconds to send an email.

  • We can't find anything that looks like a master socket or test socket in the property (block of flats). The connection is terrible regardless of which socket we connect the router to and it seems likely that a problem with the internal wiring is the culprit. What do we do? Who do we phone? How do we get our internal wiring fixed (or at least someone to come round our house and help without charging us £130 callout charge)?

  • @bandmedal The best thing to do is get a fault reported and run diagnostics so we can understand the likely cause of the issue, I've sent you a PM.

  • @Hail455 I have sent you a PM :)

  • Cant load the video my download speed is so poor. My speed runs between 90-100kbs consistently. Any video service on the web is unusable and my home hubv2.0 is connected straight to the master socket My downstream is 5200kbs meaning accord to the table on the bt speedtester i should get between 1-7mb download speed which i used to get in around august since when our internet has been appalling, also on the speedtester it says max speed it 250kbs and our 93kbs is acceptable?whats going on?

  • @Hail455 you think that's bad mine is 50 kb and i took a test and it said i should get around 500 kb?? wtf

  • my phone socket it using the test socket all the time i dont have any wires direct into the face plate is that slowing my connection i get 0.9 Mbps

  • @milesclinch I have sent you a PM :)

  • Still cannot see video . Download speed so poor despite advice on the good old landline. After 2 days connected to home hub3 can I expect a return to the speed my previous ISP gave? Could I expect a speed advertised, advised in writing, and seen on the web? What advice can you give me to get a better speed from BT Broadband?

  • What stops you from using the master socket the whole time?

  • bt sucks so badly, I'm getting 0.3 mb/s ever evening, and they charge me bloody 40 quid!!! THIS IS DISGRACE!!!

  • @ThePkNubby i have sent you a PM :)

  • i get around 0.15 mbps downloads..

  • @twsmith104 i have sent you a PM :)

  • @BTCare I also am having problems with my speed. My current package states that i can get up to 8Mbps and my line estimate is 3.6Mbps. I normally get 1.3Mbps but this speed has recently (past month) dropped drastically to 0.13Mbps. What is going on. :(

  • Hi BTcare, im currently a bt total broadband customer (option 3)

whenever i pick up an incoming call or hang up a call, the broadband temporarily cuts off for 2 to 3 mins and then reestablishes the connection. I thought it had something to do with the interference at the mains socket, so i've fitted a bt accelerator, but the problem still exists.

Note: my bt home hub v2.0 is connected via an extension cable, could that be the problem?

    Thanks.

  • @0asian1nvasion0 It depends on the extension cable, some lower quality ones can cause issues. The only way to know really is to connect you Hub and phone up at the main socket if possible, to see if the problem persists. Let me know how you get on this that, if its the same then we'll have to take a closer look :)

  • @BTCare Hi, the drop outs has been solved.

However i've also got another problem which has been bothering me. Roughly 2 - 3 months ago my BT total broadband speed can reach a maximum of 12Mbps (promised speed is 20Mbps, the estimate given for my line is 17Mbps) but recently the broadband speed seems to have dropped. I've checked all my hardware for faults and kept my desktop updated before i took a speedtest, the speeds i got was 4.2Mbps downsteam, 0.9Mbps upstream. What is going on???

    Ray

  • This rubbish makes me laugh. I did the check in the video and yeah my speed had improved once I plugged everything into the test socket. This would suggets to me that the wiring to the face plate is faulty. BT say this is my problem and it would cost me to get a BT engineer out to sort it. The funny thing is, it was a BT engineer that installed the telephone socket in the first place. The socket has not been touched since. BT, you guys are a bunch of cons. Monopoly = greed.

  • @JJcremin1 If you've done the checks already then we'll need to have a closer look, see the PM I sent you :)

  • im having 100kb a sec i have waited 10mins for this video to load and mine is already set up this way. i was getting average speeds last week but now its awful if it continues im moving to virgin

  • @JJcremin1 moving to a different internet service provider wont increase your speeds its the wiring where you live.

  • @BTCare Hi, last week I speedtested and was getting 8mb download and 0.87 upload. Now I am getting 3 mb download :( and about the same upload.

I have plugged it straight into the test socket and that has not fixed the problem. How can line speeds magically degrade within the space of a week?

  • Hi

I done this check and before i done the test i was getting 5.27MB's

And when i plugged in into the main socket I was getting 2.67Mb's i also tried via an ethernet cable and i was getting 2.10Mb's. I also noticed that the one wire inside the master socket was connected behind the test socket and not to the cover as in your video. I play on xbox live and my connection is terrible i get a constant lag. Could you help me please.

    Thanks

    Dan

  • @4CEY Unusual to have a lower speed in the test socket, did you do the tests a couple of hours apart? Its not unusual to have the master socket wired this way, but drop me a PM if you'd like us to try some diagnostics :)

  • @BTCare

    Hi

I cannot Pm you because i need to add you as a friend.

I have sent a friend request

    Dan

  • I can't check my broadband speed because when I enter my house number and post code they can't find it.

This is strange as its on the letter they sent me this morning, good old BT, Think I'll stick with TALK TALK.

  • This is ridiculous, since moving, my connection went from 2MBp/s download to a 576KBp/s down with a 1.2MBp/s upload?

  • @Zp33rz Did you get an estimate of the available speed at the new address before you moved? There can be a big difference in the speed that can be achieved from line to line

  • @BTCare When we moved, we had a constant decrease in speed, the speed was exactly the same from where we moved.

  • @Zp33rz We can have a look at it and see whats going on, see the PM I sent you

  • The UK Needs Fiber Optic!! The internet is so slow, is sucks! BT is just lazy. It's all money, money, money with them.

  • @NeoNzVideoz We're busy roling it out, its called BT Infinity and if you have a look at our website you can register your interest or even order it if it is already available in your area ;)

  • @BTCare No upgrades planned where I live - in the East. It says my line can support 2.5 M/ps DL. I'm getting a ridiculously slow speed ranging from 0.06 > 0.13

  • @NeoNzVideoz we can look at that for you, I'll send you a PM

  • right, My BT master socket is not like that one. It's a square one with nothing but a BT logo. There is some input inside, with bent pins - not straight ... so nothing will go in. I was told this is a faulty socket I'll need to replace?

  • @MandeepGadgetBoy I've sent you a PM with a link to page with details of different soctes etc. Take a look and let me know.

  • although i don't work for BT, I do work for an ISP that provides ADSL services, and I can vouch for the sound advice given here. i can't believe some of the moronic comments by other users. wtf is AM3 socket? is that AMD Socket AM3? that has nothing to do with NTE5 socket, apart from it might be made from the same kind of plastic, maybe...

  • Hi rchan0, Thanks for your post, great to hear you agree with the advice here.

  • @rchan0 AM3 is an amd pin number why they are using it blows me :/

  • copper wiring? why not fibre optics? no wonder it's slow

  • Did these checks help? Remember BTCare are just a tweet away if need more help. If you are interested in fibre have a look at BT Infinity, there is a postcode checker on the BT website so you can take a look.

  • well my download speed has gone up by 10kb

  • Once you have your hub in the test socket, turn it off and back on. Check your hubs connection speed (there are vids on the BTCare channel showing you how) and see if it has gone up. If it has your throughput speed will follow, this may take a few days depending on how dramatic the change is. If you don't see much of an improvement get intouch with BTcare on twitter.

  • Hi, id like to say that i am not happy with the quality of BT's speed. Im only getting 4mb and on online games i get a 60 latency/ping on uk servers while my mate (from the same place) gets 40. northern ireland by the way.

  • Hi, if you send @btcare a message on twitter they will be able to test your line and point you towards some hints and tips. If you need interleaving turning off they will be able to help you with that too!

  • Why are you going through the options of adding more connecting equipment? The less equipment you use that is for the internet, the less loss of internet speed. Why don't you make AM3 socket similar to one I got.

  • Hi, some customers like to have their home network set up to have equipment in convenient places, in this video we are just helping people work out if they have a faulty piece of equipment, sometimes something as simple as a dodgy microfilter can cause lots of problems! something as simple as a dodgy microfilter can cause lots of proplems!

  • What is more simple? Old fashion wiring. You don't have to tell me about micro filters I had to tell one of technicians at BT Broadband world, that it was micro filter and I asked could send one out in the past. So stop being an idiot. When you have a cable hanging out of the socket with a weight on the end. Do you know what happens to wire inside? If you did you would have installed my socket by now. Hence the article I have done showing next stage on Sockets.

  • If you have tried the tips in this video and are still experiencing slow speeds we can take a look at your line to make sure it is performing as well as it can. Could you do a speed test (check out our video Understand broadband speed: Using BT Speedtester) and send BTCare a message on Twitter and we will look into it for you.
