Excellent video. I grew up in Boone County, WV. Funny to see another one. Molina's a true genius, by the way. I'd like this song played at my funeral.
Brilliant, just brilliant. I can't stop watching this. Finding something lyrical in the senseless of brutality of a demolition derby, and doing so artfully, just blows me away.
You made some really great editing and shot choices here. This should just be the official music video. You'd think you'd need a few segments of the band singing, but honestly, this is as unpretentious as pretty surrealism can get.
This is in the top ten out of about a 3 or 4 hundred videos I've seen that try to match songs to images. If someone told me that it was specifically filmed by a professional director for this very song I would have believed it.
Nice video. I think there are parallels between the song and crashing cars, the resiliency and the broken down battle of will. Broken down and busted up but keep on slogging.
5-6 years ago, Danielle used to play some of their stuff on college radio station WMUH 91.7. "The Black Crow" was her favorite. If their cds weren't pilfered, you could request something by them. Also, WXLV, 90.3. They both stream.
I'm very disagree with you. A song that makes picture of a fragile flower as a magnolia trying to be strong and hold on, fits really good with cars crashing recklessly in slow motion.
Well, i'm not american, so maybe I'm more compatible to see the video without link it with some stereotype I don't like. This song is americana. American culture is full of mindless activities. And this song need something ugly american visuals to intensify rare american beauty. What do you think about Cat Power's "The Greatest" bowling video?

Do you even know what you just said? Are you just arguing for the sake of argument? You just said a good song NEEDS "something ugly american visuals," and I'm not referring to your poor English. Don't reply. You're stupid, and this is an awkward video. Get over it.
It may be plausible that you don't know what I was saying. And I think that has nothing to do with my second language writing. I'm arguing because I liked what Smitty did with this song, and you came with an opposite and simple non-constructive criticism. I agree with you that this is kind of an "awkward" video, but that is also what makes it great. Not unskilfully as you mean, but as a video that brings a discomfort theme.
I did not say a GOOD song need some ugly American visuals. How in hell did you read that? I was trying to say that in my opinion I think particular this song suits some ugly American images. And if you can't see that beauty and ugliness suits each other in art, then I think it's time for you to get out of here...dude:) I would love it if you reply. You're smart, and this is an awkward video. You don't need to get over it.
Okay. I'll accept that. Sometimes I need to be reminded to be nicer. BUT, nonetheless, You're looking too hard into defining art. Yet you recognize this video is awkward, and I stand by my stance that that is NOT a good thing.
I don't look harder into defining art than I believe a music video is not only a pure tool for promoting artists. It may be hard to bellive if you are very ruled by market forces.
Edited demo video on utube, what a concept! Hey this is good video. Check out another two other excellent edited derby videos, 1. search "demo derby gladiators" HUGE EXPLOSION video and 2. "Barnesville demo derby" This is a great vid.
Jason Molina is a very tallented artist, and his music gets me everytime. this is a good video, it matches the feeling of the song. could you do one for the lioness? that is my favourite song of his.

I don't know if I've seen a better fan made video or one that captures the spirit of a song so brilliantly.
Keep up the good work man, this is fucking fantastic.

This has been my favorite song for many years now.
It's so sad and beautiful.
The video chosen for the song is tasteful. The slow motion and juxtaposition is thoughtful and moving.

Great song, and this is the only clip to this original song: so well done! I only listen, but the images are also nice...

What a VERY lame video for the song. I'm not even trashing the activity of crashing cars, but it has no representation for the song at all.

don't insinuate that I am ruled by market forces. This is where I draw the line and this argument is null and void.
