@JorgeBurner The tune is collected from the notebook of Sven Donat. He was a corporal and musician who lived 1755-1815 in Småland, a historical province in southern Sweden.
The whole notebook can be found online. If you want this specific song, google "Polska efter Sven Donat (MA5 40)". The first hit will be folkwiki.se, there you have notes and midi. Good luck!
@odahijo; If you order direct from the constructor, you probobly can choose to have it in black. For me, its the sound, and how it works that is most importent...
The diversity of the nyckelharpa will replace the hurdy gurdy, quite a crude drone instrument of the past. The present and future belong to the nyckelharpa, regardless where it is being made - Sweden's great contribution to the European music world.
I never thought of nyckelharpa as a particularly passionate instrument, but this man gets such emotional power out of his instrument. Brilliant. Never heard another harpa player like him.
My suggestion would be to check for nyckelharpa in state music schools, if there is such a thing. Also eBay and similar. If there is anyone selling one, perhaps they know where to learn how to play.
Thanks. Much sparetime and a lot of lucky guessing, is the keyword ;) Other than that, as you wrote, a lot of practice. I learned this tune by ear. The tune is from the other half of the 18:th century. A swedish folktune a´la barock..ish..
Thank you Magnus for inspiring me to learn to play the nyckelharpa (at Mendocino Scandia, the candlelight concert specifically). I love it, even though I don't sound at all like you!

Cool instrument. And beautifully played. I hate to be negative, but the key clicking is somewhat annoying. Nature of the beast, I guess.

Perhaps I missed it or is my Swedish not good enough, but who made your nyckelharpa?
mvdamme 1 year ago
@mvdamme
That nyckelharpa in the video is made by Per Ahlander, Umeå (He only builded one instrument!). But now I play on a Esbjörn Hogmark-harpa.

You can undergo a training either in Forimpopoli, Italy; Burg Fuersteneck in Germany or Tobo in Sweden

@53iruka
I am educated in Tobo, at Eric Sahlström Institute, and Royal College of Music, in Stockholm.

Wait, so is this a folk tune, or is it a classicized polka? It sounds a lot like Bach.
Regardless, incredible performance. :)
violaguy312 3 years ago
Thank you wery much :)
Yep, this is a swedish folktune, but, Sven Donat (the composer)must have liked Bach ;) And its a polska (3/4 beat).

Wow. You are really good. That must have taken a lot of practice to memorize.
