  • you should put some ketchup or BBQ sause on those badboys :P lol im such an American

  • i really love the noise of insect

  • Lol the Dad was biting right through the bones of that fish ! What type of fish is that?

Look soo much fun thanks for sharing :3

    Am

  • I'm sad that softpapa has to deal with such awful comments about other ethnicities living in Japan. You are an amazing person with an amazing family who clearly loves and respects Japan. Don't listen to any of these people.

As for those who ask why they should pay to eat the fish they caught and cooked? It's a novelty. You pay for the experience of having the fish sectioned off and making it easy for you to catch.

  • 小学生のときにやったなぁ。これおいしいんだよね!

  • 13 vegans disliked this video. :L

  • kind of stuped

  • watch out for radiation

  • You must catch, if you want to eat.

    Such is life, in motherland.

  • 塩付けすぎちゃったね・・・

  • that looks like it'd be fun for kids

  • congratulation there are now carnivore

  • Thank you for sharing the video... but you have to think, that sucked double for the fish. It sure did look good though. And nothing is wrong with McDonalds for those who complain about it. I am not saying it is as healthy as eating fresh steamed vegetables or fruits, but people should not be complaining about McDonalds, but complain about people who over eat. Look at sumo wrestlers... what do you think they eat? Not McDonalds unless on a day off or rest.

  • you have totally earned a subscriber. i love your videos!

  • @softypapa

  • @softypapa ur vids are great and i also want to live in japan except i dont know japanese... :'(

  • @siyuan161 You might pick it up after you come here. It's amazing how easy it can be to get along here even if you don't understand Japanese very well. Have a great day! ~Kurt :-)

  • this looks so cool, man!!! I want to go to Japan.

  • @SuperTB4 It was a lot of fun. I hope that you have a chance to come to Japan and experience such things for yourself. Thank you for watching and commenting! ~Kurt :-)

  • throw a rock a knock the fish out

  • @MrPimpologist This is an excellent suggestion. I was once in Mexico with a biology professor who knew the exact location of a lobsters brain. Before throwing the poor creature into the boiling water he humanely inserted a small pin to quickly scramble the brain and kill the creature seconds before going in the water. This seemed a very humane way to dispatch such a creature for those who insist on eating lobster. Thank you for sharing your suggestion!

  • Those are fish not popsicles, someone should teach them how to properly eat a fish.

  • asia is different in europe and america. The way they dress the way they talk and eat .

  • looks like the kids had fun, but what do you do about the bones when you eat the fish like that?

  • Hello unavailable1000, This outing was indeed a lot of fun. We actually eat the bones along with the meat. The cooking seems to soften the bones somehow and they are rarely a problem. -Kurt :-)

  • you eat with chopsticks and you just pick the meat along the bones, you get used to it after a while

  • @janitormopmop Thank you for the very good description of how to eat such fish. It does indeed seem that most Japanese simply get used to this method of eating which does certainly take some practice to master. -Kurt :-)

  • It isn't hard to learn if you can use chopsticks. I'm chinese and have always eaten fish whole and unfilleted. when i was young i hated fish but now that i like it more and actually try it,it isn't hard to get rid of the bones. asian people usually steam their fish so its tastes fresh and using chopsticks is really easy to eat. Plus their is less waste. You should try it, it isn't hard to master ata all :)

  • stop acting like faggots. its just fish not like they are roasting a live cow! LOSERS

  • its kinda showing what an ass someone is making of themselves when they say that they should drop another bomb on people just because someone doesnt understand other peoples cultures dont knock off like you know .i go fishing with a pole and bait after i catch the fish they need to be cleaned and stuff they didnt have to do that part and thats lucky . the only thing i dont agree with is eating live fish while its still kicking that isnt done at this place go see sushi vid

  • Says the person from the UK. Europe descends from a line of hunters who primarily ate meat during the long winter months. What's worse, eating a fish, or dropping a goat's head in boiling water than eating what falls off the bone? Grow some balls, nature happens. Regardless of how technologically we advance, we are still following natural instinct and consuming flesh like we are meant to. At least we have more knowledge now about meat processing and can avoid food contamination.

  • is this the fish that they called AYU?

  • no worse than being torn to shreds by a bear.

  • @queensweet124 survival of the fittest. Fine stop eating , you'll just be one less person the world will have to worry about. Human need meat, we are not vegetarians we are omnivores. Vegetarians are unhealthy also, they lack many nutrients that the body needs.Thats why you eat in moderation...

  • 2:57

fish: don't kill me!! " don't dont STICK the wood there!

  • rather spend my time cooking my own food...aint trying to turn fat and obese

  • @lordlong You'll more likely to turn fat and obese eating your own food. Have you seen anyone turn fat by eating fish?

  • @dauntlessxhawk I was saying this to show my support for people who cook their own food instead of buying it already cooked all the time.

hell no i do not know of a single person getting fat off of fish since I love fish.

what do we still live in the 60s and 70s? you should know by now whats unhealthy and shouldn't be eaten regularly.

and no im not afraid of being obese since im only 142 with 7% body fat all thnx to preparing and choosing what I want to eat.

  • @lordlong Hey don't get me wrong. What I was saying is that in most countries, the cooking method is not that healthy and Japan is actually an extreme exception that even the food you buy from restaurant are usually pretty healthy. I do agree that choosing and cooking your own food is better but please do not patronize me. Having a degree in biomedical science and being a researcher in cancer research, I know what is healthy and what is unhealthy to eat.

  • WOWW. This looks extremely fun and good for a family weekend.

  • your daughter was sooo cute !!

  • Name a country where there isn't a McDonalds. The whole world is getting fatter & it isn't entirely down to the McDonalds affect. Japanese children are getting ruder, who do you blame for that?

  • american influence? before ww2, american secret agents took control of the japanses government, made them attack pearl harbour to start the war. my granddady told me, he was the one who did it.

  • iraq?

  • Iceland ;)

  • This is NOT fishing!!!!!

  • So whats the problem. They put the fish in the water and let them catch it by hand then eat it.

  • It doesn't get more fresh then this lol

  • niccccccccceeeeeee

  • That looks fun... It's nice to hear Japanese people just talking and having a good time.

  • Can you imagine peoples in cages and someone with 2000 IQ come to choose us for dinner? I know, someone will say that this is pathetic but, just imagine. Horror,is'n it?

  • yes...you go ponder about that for the rest of your life, while i kill and eat all the animals i want

  • I speak like sensitive human being. Pain and suffering is same in all creatures. Just because we are more intelligent and powerful meant that we can find ways to eat without killing any creature. We are most creative and complex beings,in our nature is not violence but unfortunately we are drilled to live like this. Peace

  • So......is it ok for a tiger to eat a rabbit? is it ok for a Venus fly trap to eat insects?

  • It's beyond us, there is some natural laws we can not change but we are not meat eaters and predators. Long ago our ancestors was eating fruit and vegetables. Also, our intelligence and emotional ability is incomparable with any animal on this planet(we know).

  • i want you to open your mouth and look at your teeth. unless your a degenerate...your set of teeth was build to eat BOTH meat and vegetables. you know why? Becuz evolution said so. BTW, dolphins and elephants and many other animals have emotion and intelligence like we do, and in some case, such as the dolphin, they might even have more. Guess what? dolphins eat meat!

  • Wee have teeth like lions?Like dolphins?Like cats? And,you believe in "evolution"? I believe in indoctrination.

  • I believe in the truth. Evolution is the truth. It shouldn't be a taboo for animals with a higher intelligence to eat animals who don't know better.

  • "Evolution is the truth" ... This is rationalization to avoid feel of guilty. You want truth? Ask your soul, deep ME.

  • so are you saying evolution isn't true?

  • what is higher and lower evolution?

Evolution is misunderstood by so many people. Its is a very robust theory for the decent with modification, coupled with sexual selection, geographic, cultural and phenotypic isolation.

It is not "truth" but rather, a robust set of interlocking and adapting theories that explain the diversity of life and the molecular evidence is overwhelming.

Every automotive animal can feel some sort of pain. Every fish, crab, chicken, cow and pig feels pain like we do

  • Flat worms.....do not feel pain

  • cut it in half and see if it doesnt squirm around. it feels pain it just is so... under evolved we cant tell

  • @baconator490 It's so stupid it's not even aware of its own existence.

  • actually evolution isn't a person but rather the framework in which phenotypes are changed over generations.

Our teeth are clearly designed to be omnivorous, indeed eating some kind of animal protein, be it crab, clam, fish, venison, beef, chicken, turkey, mutton etc.

Many people can get enough nutrients without eating any animal products. That being said, small amounts of fresh animal products taste yummy ;)

  • Who are "our ancestors"?

Our ancestors are not Chimpanzees nor Bonobos.

An educated guess would say that humans became successful being primarily a gatherer, where grains, berries, veggies etc. would be combined with small game and sea food / fish. This diet would be rich in protein, whole grains, fruits and variety.

Our ancestors ate just about everything there was to eat. Hunting was not very useful as it cost so much energy and was so dangerous. The domestication of animals changed this.

  • It's a great concept. The whole activity builds appetite. Then they get the satisfaction of both catching something and eating it.

  • That is such a cool concept. People in western culture are so removed from were there food comes from and what has to be done to get it to them. That looks tasty, fresh, no preservatives or additives. I could get down on that.

  • my kids would freal...lol

  • My father told me a bit about a few places like this he visited in japan and other parts of asia. I've always wanted to experience one of these places myself. Cool vid.

  • all you have to do is go to a river with some barbecue gear and a fishing pole to get this kind of experience. No need to fly to asia.

  • I do a good bit of fishing, love fly fishing for trout, I'm talking about experiencing the "restaurant" itself. Not just me cooking up some fish I caught, although thats always good too! It's a bit different than any restaurant I've ever been to.

  • Humane as possible? lmao they stuck a fkn rod through its mouth! but wtv cool vid. Now im hungry.

  • mc donalds is nasty. its for fat americans

  • @apearl420 I love me some nuggets :o 4/20 is for nasty dirty smelly stinky disgusting hippies.

  • @apearl420 not reallly u could only eat there once a month and u wont be fat dumb***

  • @apearl420 Eat that raw fish fool....maybe salmonella is waiting on you

  • japoneses quitan trabajo!!

  • seem like a good idea for a business. and its not sick, instead of catching a fish with a fishing rod, they just catch it with bare hands.

  • its not sick evey one eat fish dumass

  • that is so cool

  • fun but really SICK !!!!!

  • I really envy you. It's my dream to eat like that! :D

  • one question....how did you deal with the fish bones? lol

  • I wondered the same thing the first time I ate like this. The answer is that you don't deal with them and just eat the bones along with the rest of the fish. You should watch out for very large bones though for the most part the bones don't pose much of a problem. -Kurt :-)

  • is it me or did the fish seem a little bit shocked to find themselves being toasted...fish is rather good though...I reckon a swim in a bucket of saki might make them feel better about it...just a suggestion...maybe tasty too :p

  • Hello TheBowlerHatGuy, Thank you for viewing and commenting. The fish are actually quickly dispatched and prepared by an employee of the restaurant prior to grilling. I did not include this part in the video as I thought it might make people uncomfortable. The work was done very fast and well and performed within minutes of capture. Thanks again for commenting! Sincerely, -Kurt :-)

  • that little girl voice reminds me of an anime girl voice.

  • please tell me where this place is,,i wanna go

    cool

im from northern ontario in canada

    i miss fishing so much

    you reminded me

  • Hello happywolf10, Thank you for watching and commenting. I've asked my wife though neither of us can remember the name of this particular area. All that we can recall was that it was in the vicinity of "Nagatoro" which is in the mountains north of Tokyo. I'm sorry that we cannot remember more. -Kurt :-)

  • This is really good holiday trip for family and friends....How i wish to be in japan to enjoy those beautiful scenery and eating the fish...:)

  • how did you learn Japanese?

  • Hello Buritsu. Thank you for watching and commenting. I'm afraid that my Japanese is still very poor. However, what I have learned came mostly from just being here and living within the culture. I have a very long way to go though! -Kurt :-)

  • Konnichi wa Buritsu-san. Mitte [comment] shite arigatou gozaimasu. Sumimasen, watashi no Nihongo wa ima mo zutto warui desu. Shikashi, koko ni imashite [Kulchya-] no naka ni imasunde nani ga watashi o shitte imashite kimashita. Watashi wa nagai michi ga arimasu yo! -Ka-to

    Is this an okay translation?

  • awesome! i wanna do that!

  • this is insane

i wish this was around my area

  • that is such a cool wo catch fish!

    8)

  • I would love to do this sometime

  • I love eating fish cooked that way.

  • ive always wanted to go to japan.

  • this is "ayu".

    very delicious fish.

they can live only in a beautiful river.

    very clean fish.

  • I really miss the sound of the summer in Japan. I spent the summer time in Japan 5 years ago. It is really hot and humidit in summer in Japan, but I really love it!

  • Japan is so Beautiful. Great way to have lunch. I'll remember the stick for cooking trout next time I'm camping up at a place called "Hat Creek" California. If any visitors from Japan want to see a spectacular place with spring water gushing out of volcanic rocks, than visit that area as well. Also, Plenty of trout. I have a video somewhere in my stack for a glimpse.

  • The Original fish stick.

We lived in Okinawa for 4 years and never had fish this until moving to Misawa. It's a very common snack in Northern Japan. As always great videos!

  • ohh man this makes me hungry

  • 日本語読めんのかジジイw

  • i agree

  • Sounds like you've really become good at Japanese there! Do you guys speak just Japanese at home now?

(Your experience is very なつかしい for me; I did something very similar in Saitama.)

  • Actually my Japanese remains very poor though I do hope that I will get better with effort. We actually speak English in the home as a means of helping Emily learn and remain familiar with this language though this fact is probably contributing to my slow pace at picking up Japanese. -Kurt :-)

  • がんばってね!For me, the hardest part was learning Kanji. I still remember more of my oral Japanese (not that I was ever fluent...) but written Japanese was hardest to pick up and seems to be the first to be forgotten.

Good luck with your studies there!

  • Animal lovers love to eat fish, lose the caution!!!

I have never seen anything like that place in Shizuoka. Looks like fun for the kids.

  • Emily is as always absolutely adorable! I'm sure she had a blast in the water, I remember trying to catch minnows as a kid, lol. Thanks for posting! ~Kat

  • Hey softypapa, I watched the video on your ebay store in Japan and I hope that your business is doing well; a lot of the products you sell are very interesting.

  • Hello F1circuit, Thank you for watching and for visiting our eBay store. Your kind words are very much appreciated! -Kurt :-)

  • Enjoyed your video - thank you for taking it and posting it. Looks like a very fun place to go eat, especially with children. You just can't get good fish here in Chicago. One of these days I'm going to have to come visit you guys in Japan! Cristine

  • Hi Cristine, Yes, it was a fun place and a nice trip. This restaurant is actually located in the town of Nagatoro in Saitama prefecture. We can enjoy fresh river fish meals here in Shizuoka too though I have never seen a place in our area where we can catch them too! Please drop by if you do make it to Shizuoka and my family and I will show you the sights! -Kurt :-)

  • Neat restaurant

  • Hello F1circuit, Actually this particular restaurant is part of an all-you-can-eat grape farm where you pay some money and they let you run free in their beautiful grape vines. We did this too and I stuffed myeself with so many grapes I might never care to eat another grape in my life. This was certainly a fun place! -Kurt :-)

  • Well u have done it again. AWSOME WORK. U show the side of Japan that the tourist pamplet and videos don't. Ofcourse 5 stars

  • How did you not eat the bones?

  • I think I saw them eating around the bones. thier teeth would strip the meat out from around the rib cage.

  • Hello Dave, You are right in noting that folks simply eat around the bones. However, with smaller fish the entire fish is eaten bones and all! I have a tough time doing this though when we have bought similar fish at festivals I have seen my dad-in-law and others simply eat the entire thing bones, head, tail and all! Amazing! -Kurt :-)

  • softypapa: "others simply eat the entire thing bones, head, tail and all...."

That's the way kids were told to do, for a few reasons.

All parts of fishes contain important nutrition, specially bones are good source of calcium.

Show a respect to a fish died for us.

    Don't waste your food.

    Honestly speaking, I didn't follow it. ^_^;

  • Hello englishwob, Thanks for watching and commenting. I'm not too experienced eating this type of food and so the bones were indeed a bit difficult to avoid. An old pro like my father-in-law however seems to know how to take each bite such that the bones are carefully avoided. -Kurt :-)

  • Wow! That was cool! It looked like a alot of fun.

  • Cool! 5/5!
