Best opening of any episode on that show EVER. I loved her character, as it provided a much-needed balance for the "left and far left can only be right" message the show had up to her introduction. They showed that - imgine this - there were actually smart republicans!
Isn't it kind of sexist to think because it's a girl that is winning the argument it would be seen as worse then a guy who did it as if women aren't as smart as men and therefore to lose to one means there is something wrong with you
This would make more sense when it comes to things that takes physical strength as female
Even if you accept that the idea the Presidents bill is wrong and that the education bill should not by pass the state or local government it doesn't follow that the President is working for the teachers union.
"If anything it would be the opposite as allocating money towards books would mean that money could not go toward teachers salary and therefore if anything it might mean they would end up with less pay..
I think he could have stated his argment in a better way
Ainsly is clearly wrong as she is making the argument the local government
knows best and I would agree with her most of the time but Sam made a point about a school system that failed to supply books to the students.
Giving these facts the President had to put provisions in the bill alocating how the educational funds be spent to insure the funds are spent correctly.
@bornbillsmith I think the best way to fix a local school system is to sponsor grassroots political action. If you provide people with the knowledge and resources to organize politically they can create change from within. This seems like a more long term and effective solution to improving local governance that the top-down approach of dictating how funds be spent.
There are school systems where the local government or board of education. for reason we can only guess, have not been alocating sufficient funds to buy books and supplies that are needed.
You say"' if you provide people with knowledge to orgaize politically"
Three things.
Who are, the "you" that going to provide this "knowledge' and,who are the "people" this "knowledge" is being given to.and what kind of "knowledge" are you rerferring to.
@bornbillsmith My apologies. By "you" I am refering to the federal government, by "people" I am refering to the parents whos children are being shortchanged and by "knowledge" I am refering to a host of skills needed to be effective politically including fundraising, media relations, public outreach and an understanding of the democratic process.
School boards may be elected but they are only held democratically accountable when the electorate are educated, aware and empowered.
You believe the federal Government has the resources to educate everyone who want the law changed. and
the parents have the time to learn how to use this knowledge or even organize this group of yours and don't you realize even if this is possible it take alot of money.
Money these parents don't have because if they did they would have bought the books themselves.
The people who elect the school boards are the reason money isn't spent where it's needed.;
These people are against spending money on books as they don't want taxes raised or unable to pay more in taxes
The federal government doesn't supply enough money to run the schools
The difference between what is needed and what isn't funded by the federal and state has to be funded by the local government which if not mandated will try to cut corners and not buy them..
Wouldn't it be alot easier and cheaper and more likely to happen by passing the bill the Democrats want.
@bornbillsmith The Democratic bill does not provide any more funding than the Republican bill, it merely dictates how those funds are to be allocated. If textbooks are not being purchased due to a lack of funds then mandating that federal funds be used for this purpose simply means something else will be cut.
Providing money with strings attached (micromanagement) is based on the belief that the money will be squandered otherwise. You either micromanage indefintely or improve local governance.
Does anyone know if there's the episode on You Tube where Ainsley goes to talk to Steve and whoever and they send her a bunch of dead roses and Sam fires them? It's one of my favorites. :) Songs

athletes aren't a match for male athletes.
Women if anything are smarter then men.

She then restates his position in a way that distorts what he said and never responds to what he actually stated.
He was being asked a question because they wanted to know what he had to say.
If they wanted to know what she thought they would have asked her.
But not only does she not give him a chance to speak but she also gives his answers.
It's easy to win a debate if you can limit what the other person has to say.

That sounds rather like the BBC intro music when they're opening the show (about 1:20 - 30). Seems a little odd.
