  • what muffler would you recomend? i have a NA 3800 and i was thinking about a high flow cat to a magnaflow glass pack resonator to a hooker aerochamber muffler. i know i need a new exhaust because the car just sounds like it is groaning under load and feels like it is down on power in the low RPMS. also does that computer chip help my shift logic? the transmission is in awesome shape but it is really hesitent to downshift after braking have to stomp on the gas to get it to kick down after braking

  • Great video. Agree with the forum douches. Seems like every forum has a whole bunch. And kudos to supporting 3800 vendors. I do the same and support 3100 and 3400 as well. For my grand am

  • I've got a 97 monte Carlo z34 and the engine is trash now I've pulled to big chunks of metal out of it. So the summer I'm going to get a 3800 series 2 and replace the engine. I just don't know what all I need when I do.

  • I plan on gettin a 1998 regal GS S/C with tax check and the first thing I want to get is a air intake.cant decide between a cold air or ram air intake,is one better then the other when it comes to a car with a S/C? and what brand would you recommend? tryin to stay under $150 before tax = /

  • @krypekeeper personaly the guy before me have put the k&n short ram and its crapy when the engine is hot you didn't have no power beacause it suck hot air so for the next summer i will get the jmb fenderwell intake at w-body store but it was 210$ so its higer than you wanna ây but youre bether with oe air box than with a short ram

  • "Only $550..." (*on a car that Blue books for like $3600..)

  • How can you tell when your UIM and/or LIM gaskets are going bad. I have a 1998 regal gs and I was just wondering how to tell if there going bad so I know what to look for.

  • @TBomberger You could remove your oil fill cap and see if there is a light brown "goo" accumulating in the top of the cap. Usually happens when antifreeze mixes with oil.

  • i dont want to sound like i'm calling you an idiot but why would you install a bigger Pully on the alt and water pump to slow them down? that me less out put from the alternator and less water being pushed by the water pump which mean it will overheat easlier

  • Now I see you have all your lines relocated so they don't go overtop of the supercharger, is that a kit or did you just do it yourself? If its a kit, post the link to the site if you remember.

    Thanks,

    3800sc Fiero

  • @Peterbiltfan69 3800 sc fiero, nice. i would love to do that. sleeper from hell.

  • I just got a 2004 Dale Jr. SS and i'm looking to do some mild modifications. I bought the Stage 2 inter cooler with machined manifold form zzp. I wanna go with a 3.3 pulley, 3" down pipe and cat back.

  • I can hear a damn thing

  • Like your vids man!! I am prolly gonna get a downpipe for my Impala SS and was just curious whether you think a 3 or 2.5 inch is better....

  • if i upgradee my computer what can i do?

  • I just bought a series II from a friend and all I've had time to do with it so far is change the bearing hubs which isn't exactly a mod but it had to be done. I want to put a 3.2 pulley in, any advise?

  • I have a problem on my

99 gt, the ac compressor is making a grounding noise n there r metal shavings under now how can I fix that any solutions or ideas ?

  • @MendingSilence New compressor and orifice tube. No other way to fix that.

  • @MendingSilence You will need to replace the a/c compressor or replace the a/c clutch which can be hard to do. Replacing the compressor as a unit is much easier. Just have the a/c system vacuumed out by a shop and vacuum again to check for leaks before refilling the system.

  • i have an 02 sle and i was wondering if it is common for the oil pressure, after driving it for a while, tends to go a little below 40psi????

  • Sweet video man, brightens up a lot of ideas I was pondering on for my car keep up the good informational stuff when you can :)

  • hi i mod my 3800 series 2 stock on montecarlo z34 for supercharged and i have a lot of problems for the vacuums....cant u help me....

  • the solid motor mounts also mean you feel the car more. lol. how much did all this cost??? and was this car stock supercharged?

  • how much did u spend for all of that?

  • Where did you get your throttle body spacer?

  • after researching lots about these carssince my last comment 6 months ago.. ive noticed that you forgot to mention your alternator cable wire.. looks like you got that from ZZP as well... the wire running from your alternator output part to the stud on your fusebox.. maybe its just me.. but looks like thats what that is... i also wanted to get the powerlog ZZP sells.. but there out of stock as of today 4/26/11

  • what stock nd what r u gettin with these mods

    ?

  • this helped alot! thanks

  • . My grandmother's 96' supercharged Park Avenue only has 45, 000 miles on it and it absolutely screams. I am trying to buy it from her lol.

  • I like this vid, but please speak up! I'm having a hard time just hearing what you're talking about

  • Hello, can you tell me if any pulleys are compatable with the american supercharger modular hub? I'm going to a smaller pulley, but it doesnt appear they are selling them anymore..

  • By adding larger pulleys, does it help with fuel economy

  • i love 3800ssss lol i lovemy monte carlo ss

  • i just bought an LSS with the L67 in it. yours is looking clean and youre right, even if its only a few HP it counts, more so when you race against another GTP

  • I thought that the Water Pump and Alternator Pulley's were for the N/A motors. I didnt know they were from the supercharged. I had hear a long time ago they were and I guess that stuck in my head.

  • @str8lucks2000GT They work on all kinds of motors. ZZP claims that they add 7 HP at the redline.

  • doesnt havig the intake in the well give u more of a chance of sucking water if it wet out

  • @bergaflickal I Was Thinkin The Same THing....Thats Why I Installed A Con A fewc Inches Awayb From The Charger......

  • and if you can answer my question about needing a special tool to remove the stock alternator pulley... can you send a link you used for your solid motor mounts.. i looked on that website and i thnk i fould the ones you have... but i wanted to be 100% sure.

  • how john.. how do you take off the stock alternator pulley? id like to get a bigger aluminum pulley ZZP sells...ZZP said you need a special alternator pulley puller tool?

  • Some websites i use for my 3800...... zzperformance.co intense-racing.ne 3800performence.co

  • youtube wouldnt let me post links... so the first site and third site is a com and the second is net... just if anyone is new to the 3800 modding

  • I also have a white 98 gs, except mine is silver on the bottom. Was told it might be an anniversary edition? Picked it up for $2,ooo with 87,000 miles on it. Do any of these cars have a non broken cup holder?lol... Was wondering how I would go about finding out if it is an anniversary edition or not? Kinda new to these cars, mostly play with f- bodys. Love the mods on yours nice and clean.

  • love 3800 but bigger pulleys wont help yes they spin less but your 4in pipe and witha kan n filter you should be good with stock pulleys a big thing you could do it delete the ac and ps talkin 25 -30 hp if your ready to power steer your self i had a 97 gt and a 01gtp and i mean yeah i got a firebird now but stil 3800 o and slowing the pully is bad on a pretty much stock engine its spraying gas that it cant make up for air keep it like this to long and your gonna eat all your seals up

  • i currently have a buick regal gs when i first got it it was coo i was all for moding it but the have problems down the line and im tradeing it in in a couple day for a grand prix gxp or gtp

  • @Branden031 moding is for pros to be for real if you mod a car out expect like at the most 20000 miles for the simple fact your pushing it against what it was built to do if its constantly redlining expect a knocking rod getting to much gas expect to reseal all the valve seats piston rings if your expecting to eat up track cars with your street car save up and buy a vette or a ss camaro ont a fan of the camaro couple guys making firebird kits

  • is this front wheel drive??? cuz i have a 96 and its rear wheel drive

  • @vincevelasquez yes the gtp is front wheel 4t60 4t65 4t65e 4t65hd you probably got a 4l60e tranny. t is front wheel. l is rear .any thing but front wheel with this motor would be a bad idea its like a truck is meant to pull

  • @vincevelasquez yes the gtp is front wheel 4t60 4t65 4t65e 4t65hd you probably got a 4l60e tranny. t is front wheel. l is rear .any thing but front wheel with this motor would be a bad idea its like a truck its meant to pull

  • it has 205hp stock and i want at least 300hp

  • @01SLE

    cartuning.ca

  • i have an 01 bonneville sle and want it to have more hp what should i get first

  • @01SLE

How much are you willing/wanting to spend?

  • take us for a ride!

  • @Chumlend

I have a drive video up actually.

    Search

Drive to Julian Ca 1 hour East of San Diego Regal GS/Grand Prix GTP Cruise

    =)

  • wow man spin the waterpump slower!? thats is the stupidest thing iv ever heard. isint that sumthing you try to avoid! you want the engine cool not cold not hot! if you want to make it work less to get more power you should get a smaller pulley kit.

  • @vanry2010

Thats why I have gauges =)

It only runs like 4 degrees hotter.

  • does that first gauge data log?

  • @vinnie4g63

It keeps track of your Quarter mile time and it records like 30 seconds of data for whichever parameter you choose.

  • i hav a series 2 can i still use the gauges?

  • @hellobitch1000

Yes sir. Which gauges are you thinking of putting in?

  • @JohnFromSpace lol im not sure what would you reccomand?

  • where did you get your TB Heat Shield from?

  • @NWO41508

    ZZPerformance

  • where do you connect the wiring for an oil pressure gauge? i have a 99 grand prix gtp with mods

  • @sicexhaust2

You have to remove the low oil pressure sensor in the oil pan.

Better to have a gauge anyway because once your low pressure light comes on your fucked anyway.

Better to have a reading of what yor actual oil pressure is rather then a light telling you you're fucked =P

  • @JohnFromSpace What oil pressure gauge did you buy for your car? I'm gona go with an electronic one, i don't want mechanical lol. Can you give me brief steps to installing the oil pressure gauge plz. Great work on your videos man!

  • @JohnFromSpace What oil pressure gauge did u buy? I want an electronic one. Will u give brief steps on installing the gauge?

  • thats right buddy.. i respect you. glad to hear you support the 3800 motor as well. nice video.

  • @NWO41508

Thanks for the kind words bud.

  • @JohnFromSpace i know this might sound stupid but it seems like u kno what ur talking about i have a power programer on my car so does that mean i still need to get it tuned lol??????

  • i have the same car and i love it. i have 2 questions what would upgrading the computer do ? and how do you hook up a boost gauge

  • @angu789

    Upgraded computer is awesome man

High shift points and 4-2 and 3-1 skip shifts.

I have a tutorial up on how to install the boost gauge.

Search Aeroforce scan gauge install and 3800 Boost gauge install quick guide

  • @JohnFromSpace ZZperformance isnt anything like they used to be. customer service went to crap, and from what i can tell the computers arent getting tuned right anympore either, and btw dont ask them about your computer, cuz youll never get a call, and or email back.

  • Thats right!!! Long live the 3800!!

  • @TheDman52

    Well said!

  • I have a 1998 Pontiac Firebird with a 3800 Series II. The main difference between the cars is my engine sits 90 degrees and sits back into the dash a little. Also, I am a RWD. I was curious about a S/C swap into a v6 Firebird, but I was told I would need the original cylinder heads, s/c, wiring, and the computer for it. I thin k I might have clearance issues because of how my engine sits. Do you think an s/c is possible?

  • @SubZer089

In Australia they have 3800 Series 2 Supercharged cars and they are RWD! They got the better stuff then we did.

They are called Monaros I believe. So I figure if you track down a SC off one of those you can do a top swap on your bird like how peopel do top swaps on their NA 3800s

  • @JohnFromSpace

The supercharged rear wheel drive your talking about came off our ecotec motor. n even though they were very similar motors, i believe the block was slightly wider than the australian 3800 block? although the whole supercharged ecotec would most likely bolt up in the pontiac...

  • Will that short stack fit any series2 3800?

  • @lbkinthehouse

Yes sir it only raises the blower 1 inch so it'll clear stock hoods.

  • I have a 96 Bonneville SSEi supercharged. I found your video pretty informative. I'd love to do a couple simple mods to get more power. But with 45,000 original miles, I'm hesitant to tinker too much. Gonna take a while to go thru all your videos. LOL

  • ok i have a 2000 monte carlo ss and i want to supercharge it (3800) series II. wat components will i need to add one? please answer back

  • @hellobitch1000

To supercharge it your going to have to do what is called a "Top Swap"

Track down a 3800 series 2 supercharged motor and take the cylinder heads, intake and ofcouse the supercharger from that car and swap them to your car.

Or you can do an engine swap. Cheapest route is a top swap if you can track down a good 3800 S/C motor. If your resourceful you can pull it off for less then $1000

  • ok i have a 2000 monte carlo ss and i want to supercharge it (3800) series II. wat components will i need to add one?

  • i have a throttle body spacer on my 2000 GTP (its a Helix Power Tower) and it gets really hot! i'm thinking it hurts more than it helps. I tried a shield but that didn't really help. Do you think the Spacer helps on your car at all?

  • @barffboy217

Thats the one that "Spins" the air right? You dont want that. You want the air coming in as straight as possible. The spacer on my car is a straight shot and the material doesnt absorb heat. In my honest opinion its a throwaway mod. One of those mods you put in your car when your bored. Does it as anything? Maybe. Its a mod I dont regret nor one I care for =P

  • anyone got a site where i can buy a supercharger for a 3800 series II, buick regal custom, 1996. thanx.

  • @musthaveastang2010

You can do a top swap, that means track down a Super charged 3800 engine take the supercharger, manifold and heads and swap it with your car. You can supercharge it that way

  • @musthaveastang2010 yea i do zzperformance . com or you can buy my extra supercharger 4 cheaper than zz performance. msg me if you want it

  • i was wonderin if i could use any universal intake for my supercharger if so whats the best for a low price i have a 2000 ssei Thanks cause i cant here wine lol

  • @apacanis69

Check out the suggested videos I made a video on how you can make your own 3800 intake. You just have to tweak it a little to work with our Bonneville but the basicas are the same since we have the same Throttle body

  • what is KR and how do you check for it?

  • @calistameghan

KR is a safety measure for Supercharge and turbocharged cars.

If your engine is getting to hot you're engine gets knock and your engine pulls timing to protect your engine.

Your computer can only pull so much timing thats why if you add too much boost and you dont have enough mods your motor goes BOOM!

You can monitor KR with a scangauge.

Ideally you want 0* but 1 or 2* wont destroy your motor. 10* or something nuts like that and your motor will be toast in no time

  • @calistameghan

here the thing i have an 2001 ssei with some mods fwi, 605 plugs, new wires,3.4 pully, 160 thermostat and took off the old mufflers and put on some high flow ones. pcm is next not to sure what to do next?

  • @calistameghan

I would consider getting a scanner, you might be getting some knock with that setup

160 is too cold of a tstat because the knock sensors dont come on till 160-165 i believe. I would go with a 180 to make sure your Knock Sensors are coming on because with a 160 tstat your engines too cold.

  • @calistameghan

Thanks Man it really hard to get a honest answer

  • @calistameghan

No problem bud. 3800 enthusiasts are the best around! Gotta help each other out man! Feel free to ask more questions if you have any!

  • Do you have to have a supercharged to install a pulley?

  • @queculo0

    Supercharger pulley yes

Waterpump and alternator underive pulleys will work on non supercharged and supercharged cars

  • @JohnFromSpace

So one of these underdrive pulleys would sound like Supercharger pulley? I really like the sound that the pulleys make on acceleration.

  • instead of a 180 degree thermostat, should i get a 160 degree thermostat?

  • @FutureMarine246

Go 180 The Knock sensors turn on at 165 degrees I believe and If you go 160 itll take forver for your car to heat up

  • @JohnFromSpace knock sensors are always on.. and you car will still heat up with a 160 degree tstat due to your radiator is too small to keep the coolant that cool... if you want a cooler engine, just drill your 180* tstat or get an electric water pump.

  • Nice regal. I hope to start getting mine worked on. I have a 180 stat in now and plan on doing a cai and exhaust next. You get on any regal forums? Regalgs()net is a good forum. A lot of great knowledge and no drama. Kinda of a small forum but I know you have some knowledge to add.

  • @TheSethDavis

Good luck with the build! I dont go on forums I like youtube more. I figure there are people who dislike forums and look up stuff on YT. I'm surprised this got 31,000 views. I'm happy that the 3800 motor is gaining interest!

  • YOu think all this would be worth it for a base model of the Buick Park avenue?

  • @queculo0

Plenty of mods for non supercharged 3800s!

How fast do you wanna go and how much can you spend.

  • you know ur shit!

  • Knock retard.... hrm. Knock retarted is something the computer adds when its knock sensers sense detonation. Detonation is what destroys pistons and rods.

  • i have a 91 lesabre and was wondering what i could do to make it faster

  • @heartboy86

Build an intake, pick up a highflow muffler if you have a resonator get that removed and if your thermostat is 195 degrees get one thats 180.

These are the 3 basic mods you can do on anycar and your car will sound better, run cooler and you'll pick up some extra horsepower.

  • @JohnFromSpace do yopu know of any other mods for a l27 short of nitrious and a s2 engine swap.

  • @KoolCordell

L27 is the series 1 3800? Not much you can do besides a intake,180 degree tstat and high flow muffler.

If you want to do a 3800 Series 2 S/C swap then Ed Morad is the man you want to contact. He always has S2 Engines and trannys for sale for a great price.

  • hi agian, i just installed a throttle body spacer on my gtp but its from a different vendor and now my car has a terrible idle! spits and sputters and stalls out at times. what did i do wrong?

  • @barffboy217

Did it come with garlock (Blue) gaskets? If so those don't seal well and I would use RTV on them or get factory or equivalent gaskets.

Also Did you crack a vaccum line? Is everything reconnected?

If your vac lines are fine and everything is connected then your gaskets are not sealing and it's a vac leak.

Your car only stalls when your at idle right once your moving everythings fine?

  • @JohnFromSpace only simple gaskets with no garlock. but i found the problem already- a small peice of the old gasket was still stuck in there making a vaccum leak. but thanks for the quick reply

  • @barffboy217

Cool man, gotta love it when it's something so simple. Keep up the great work with your car man

  • if i ware you i would chance the position of the sportsfilter

its beter is you put it in front of the gril becus your engine would then get fresh cold air

if you do it in a closet area your engine wil suck worm air and that is not healthy for the engine

becuse in worm air there is less oxsigen then cold air

if the engine doesnt get the requayert oxcegen it will leave unburned fual in de ciliender and leads it to the exoust and finely your exoust gets clogged

  • That intake is gr8 for water uptake! lol

  • @garrett6699

The fenderliner has a little slit I just stuff a few plastic bags in there when it rains. Works great! When the rains gone just pull the bags out =P

  • @JohnFromSpace ahh! I see

  • cool vid man,but i got a question.can i put a 3800 in a 93 buick skylark?i got a lil insparation off ur vid.let me know if i can please.

  • @artblok66

Yeah go to bigmax88's channel he put a 3800 S/C engine in his Lasabre. He's a cool guy with a good channel

  • Hey man how do those mounts affect the ride quality? I mean how much do they vibrate?

Nice tips dude I'm lookin into getting a 3800S2 car.

  • @markkjay

Ride Quality wont be affected at all, you'll feel some vibration through the steering wheel but its worth it.

Good luck with whatever 3800 car you choose. Great engines.

  • @JohnFromSpace

Aight man. You sound chill and have real good videos, nice to see a decent person representing their car for once.

  • @markkjay

Thanks for the kind words bud. I'm lucky that I have such cool visitors on my page. I never thought this video would get 25,000 views. It's cool ass people like you that rate this video high.

  • @JohnFromSpace

Its cause use guys with 3800's are awesome people!

I just wish I could mod my Impala.

But buying a motorcycle and parents owning it complicates that...

  • @tjmick1992

Yup 3800 drivers are the best and most knowledgable enthusiasts in the world! I'm part of Corvette Forums too but they don't know about other cars and their specs like 3800 owners do.

  • @86interceptor

Thats going to be a low to mid 13 second car. Nice solid setup good luck with the build!

  • what year is your car in this vid?

  • @minchellas

    Its a 98

  • i meant an impala ls :P

  • @aj508746

Its a 3800 so I have no complaints with that bud

  • he sounds so mellowed out lol..love th vid dude.......proud owner of a 2000 ls!!

  • @aj508746

    I'm a pretty mellow dude =P

You should be proud Regals are sweet rides!

  • How fast is this thing, 0-60 etc. can you smoke a mustang 5.0?

  • @ChrisXCXCX

I have a 0-100 video up, just click on my user name.

Can it beat a 5.0? The new ones no the old ones depends on what mods they have of course =P

  • @JohnFromSpace i bet people freak out when you spank a stock 5.0 or something. That was pretty fast, Cant really tell what your 0-60 is because the tach jumps. How does the automatic tranny hold up to this? Can you upgrade that also? My dads got a 2003 impala LS not supercharged, i looked up the specs and found out the supercharged version is way different internal wise so i guess thats a no go. He babys it anyways.

  • @ChrisXCXCX

If you watch the boost gauge from 0-30 its like less then 5 psi then it spikes.

You have to ease onto the throttle or you'll spin the tires allday long.

This is a good amount of mods and the tranny has held up fine at this level.

Once you get a cam and like a 3.0 pulley or smaller your stock transmission will be toast within 5,000 miles.

The Transmissions in the N/A 3800s are similar to the supercharged ones I think the S/C 3800 just has a stronger differential.

  • Ok, last question i swear! With the 3.2 SC pulley, and bigger alternator/Waterpump pulleys - What size Belt are you using, and where did you get it?

  • @barffboy217

Ask all the questions you want bud

Go to ZZPerformance (dot)com and go to the pulleys and belt section they list all the proper belts you'll need with all your combination of pulleys.

Remember the SC belt is different from the accessory belt, there are 2.

  • With your solid motor mounts, does the car vibrate at all due to the stiffness of the mounts?

  • @barffboy217

Yeah you can feel it through the steering wheel at a light, if you dont like that feeling take your hands off the wheel when your stopped at a light, the mounts are worth having !

  • great video john i just did some small mods to my gtp like coils and a CAI from K&N and remover the res in the exhaust it made a little difference. i dont want to go to crazy its a daily driver so look at my video at paddywagons104 if you got any ideas im open to them.........

  • Great Vid man ur rite about sum of the 3800 forums there are jerkoffs on there. nice rig and mods, howd u like the SSIC? im thinkin of that next after my rockers.

  • @1loudcorde

Yeah I dont hang out much on forums anymore I actually interact with fellow 3800 owners on youtube more now. The forum environment has too many e-tough guys.

Short Stack IC is a great mod and you can get a complete set up with everything you need for less then $1000 VS $2000 or so for full size.

When your dropping down to a 3.0 pulley or less you need bigger injectors and with a SSIC you can go down to a 3.2 so bigger injectors wont be needed.

  • hey bro i got my vid up of my moded impala check it out....all i need is the supercharger now and its the newest 3800 in the world

  • i went to the website but i got a 2001 monte carlo ss what do i do

  • @pokethelocc44

Whats your goal how much do you want to spend?

  • Dude, this video was perfect. i just got a 2000 GTP and i want to mod it right away but dont know where to start. This video helped alot, Thanks!

Just one question... With the 3.2 pulley, did you need to make other changes to the engine to avoid chipping a piston?

  • @barffboy217

Hey man glad you enjoyed the video. To run a 3.2 inch pulley your going to need an intercooler, or a high performance cam with headers.

  • HI nice video I have a 2000 buick park ave with a code p1811 and a hard shift from 1st to 2nd gear seams to be worse when the motor is warm any help would be great thank you

  • @v6ish

Tranny could be on the way out, how many miles on it?

  • fenderwell intake suks i have one on my gt and u have to change it every 2 months and the mounts r the number 1 mods

  • @elder699

They are best for bringing in cold air but yeah they get dirty fast

  • @elder699 K&N Filters are washable, you dont have to keepbuying a new one

  • I have a 99 GTP with 3'' cat-back exhaust u bend delete no resonators or mufflers high flow cat and wizaired cold air intake. I am looking at ordering a 3.5 mps, colder plugs, 180 tstat, throttle body spacer & heat shield. Can i run this setup with the stock pcm until i get more money in and i will get an intense pcm. Should i be ok with my setup?

  • hey were did you get your fuel rail?

  • @dantheman121983

Its a ZZP modded fuel rail, I think Wbody store sells modded fuel rails too
