She climbed in through the bathroom window, this is a reference to a Beatles song by the same title. The guy who died in the war was Lucy's boyfriend, he was drafted in the beginning. Jude didn't want to return back to the UK and Max was dropping out of college so they were like 'why the hell not?'. Jude returned after applying for a citizenship to the US. Excuse me if I missed anything <:)
