Duane,Your efforts are appreciated by me, Good effort, Good Job ; Keep them coming I enjoy learning from an experienced Tech . Thank You, WalkaboutTech
I'm with spelunkerd on this one. I didn't see anything as far as an actual glitch in the MAF signal which leads to the question of how exactly did you arrive at the conclusion of a bad MAF sensor? Use of a gas analyzer? Volumetric efficiency test? Inquiring minds wanna know. BTW, that stuff I sent you around 1 1/2 years ago I think would tie really well into this video series.
It seemed like you went through complex diagnostics on the MAF, and you didn't find anything wrong. Then you replaced the device and problem was solved. The explanation was that the frequency output was a shade incorrect from the perspective of the PCM. Did I miss something?
What about performing a V.E test. I understand front door back door diagnostics. (scoping, scanning) But I have more than 90% of the time have diaged maf's by doing VE test.
Another simple way to test if a mass air flow sensor is going bad, is by tapping on it while the engine is running, listening for any engine rpm changes.. Wondering how it would look on the the scope when this type of test is performed.
Duane, great video on explaining hertz frequency but i got a question. When you used the lab scope to measure hertz frequency using the volts scale, does the ecm sees or measures hertz frequency in 1 millisecond time frame?
Great info, great presentation. I have not seen you use a video inspection camera for gathering information , I have considered buying one myself and thought I would get your feedback whether you consider this a useful tool and if you do have one would you consider making a video on using one.
I am waiting for your videos for long time, like Apple releasing next iphone...... You know what I do know how to test MAF sensor using scope, however you have created an addiction to all of the viewers to simply watch your explanation. I watch your videos to learn how to explain most complex thing in just human understandable words. Just awesome.
Scanner Danner did some videos on his Youtube channel about testing GM MAF sensors. Danner is an auto tech school teacher so he should be quite clear on explaining MAF sensors. Also Danner uses a Versus to scope bad MAF sensor for dropouts and shows how you will not see this using a any real time data scanner.
You were testing a known good MAF sensor in the video the whole time. We wanted to see what a bad MAF would show.

Someone should do a rave remix with Duane repeatedly saying "the frequency" over and over!

A lot of information in here, probably going to take me awhile to understand how everything works exactly. but great video nonetheless.
