  • wtf looks so disgusting....

  • Where to download it. 8 bit version didnt appeal that mutch to me. i wanted this

  • what engine are u using?

  • damn this is awesome

  • I like your work, congratulations!

But I think you should be based in the original features of serie. I like your style of drawing, but I think does not work well with the characters of MegaMan (Plug Man and Rush, for example, are very different from its original version).

  • R.I.P megaman universe :'(

  • More like "crappy flash game version of MM9!" really, this looks much worse to me, I mean I prefer the 8-bit anyway but this just looks like cheap programming nowadays does :P i would still play this for the lulz though

  • You have no soul

  • Very nice. I like it but Megaman's and Rush's apperance are a little bit ugly. Maybe you should modify them again to look like Japan's version then you will be awesome! :)

  • I'm sorry, but am I supposed to play this and pretend it's a different game? This is Megaman 9 in HD.Period.There's no reason to play this if you have Megaman 9 because it's the exact same game.Graphics don't make a difference.

  • @SuperAwesomeTiago Graphics do make a difference. Especially in this case, when they look worse.

  • Dear god, it looks like Tim Fuckley's twin brother with Down's syndrome drew this. Damn.

  • Why is there always a handful of dislikes?

  • I dont like it.. you dont even have the original model of megaman

  • looks like complete shit lmao

  • nice job i bet it took a ton of work to make this :D

  • the title screen rockman don't look very good ...

and the jewelman looks .. WTF XD

  • how dare it not be 8bit

  • 3:49 now you're thinking with portals! awesome! :)

  • @danooct1 Ur moms missing the point of Megaman 9

  • Completely missing the point of Megaman 9.

  • Comment removed

  • please release this!!!!!!!

  • @nintenfenderr do you even read the description?

  • @nicobandicoot

    yes, i did

  • @nintenfenderr damit

  • this is really awesome but does it come with every thing like megaman 9 like hero mode or being able to play as protoman? it would also be cool if you could do the same thing with megaman 10. well that beside the ponit great job keep doing what you do best

  • The boss battle music is really epic

  • This is just awesome. I love the bg on this stage too.

  • asi es como devio ser este megaman

  • This is a masterpiece. Damn you put alot effort in your every project, wish you the best luck in producing games! =)

  • I give you an A+ for the game engine. Looks like it plays just like Rockman 9! But the art style... A+ for the art itself, but C- due to the fact it looks nothing like the official artwork.

  • is this flash based. it looks like its flash based.

  • @PRocker320 no, it's game maker.

  • @PRocker320 no, it's game maker. flash games aren't this good.

  • Amazing! Nice-looking game!

  • I WANT THE GALAXY MAN REMIX MUSIC SHIT FUCK YEAAAAAAH

  • Meh, not bad, but in my opinion the music is a bit off. Still enjoyable, but doesn't have as full of a feel to it as the original. Im not entirely fond of the artwork style here, especially Rush. But, from a programming standpoint, you have things perfectly set up, and very accurate.

  • mind = blown O.o

  • Nice is their a release for this game

  • HOLY CRAP!!! At first glance I thought this was real. And I still wish I could play it. It reminds me of Commander Keen, only it's MM9, and it's HD. Big congrads for making this! Too bad Capcom (and other big companies) are too narrow-minded to allow such things to be created. :(

  • well like i've said before, i think this looks amazing. i want to play it.

i know nothing about making games or anything, but i think you've done a great job.

  • It looked pretty good until you got to the boss. It looks a lot easier than the actual game. Not to mention that the player has the upper hand with the wide screen.

A good attempt but not the best. A good choice for players who don't have a console system but want to play megaman 9.

  • you sir have spent entirely to much time playing mega man

  • you

    are

    god

  • rush and megaman need a little bit of work I think they don't resemble the 8bit models too much and are too tin, the size its ok though unlike the rest of the level design and galaxy man the rest its pretty neat :)

  • @misanthropiclusion I mean that the level design, the enemies and galaxy man were pretty good*

  • Ah, you use Game Maker too? Which version do you use?

  • My only complaint about this is that you take far too many liberties with the important character design. I'm all for originality and interpretation but you're messing with some of the character design far too much. Tiny details that are very well documented and have been established through multiple mediums are being ignored or replaced like his solar panel on his head being replaced by a red crystal, or Rush looking nothing like Rush at all.

  • @RickDanto

    Blasted character limit.

If you were trying to get a more detail look for Mega Man, I would suggest looking up Hitoshi Ariga's character design for inspiration. He doesn't follow the official look for Mega Man either for his work but he does a terrific job giving a simple character detail that would be perfectly suitable for something like this.

  • There are some ridiculously talented people out there, that's for sure.

  • Looks more like powered up to me.

  • I don't like the skinny and tall version of MegaMan.

  • Dude this was amazing. I kinda wish (when I first heard that it was coming out) that Mega man 9 had the choice of playing with an updated style. I would like if they let you play 8-bit but if they added updated graphics it would add to the re-playability. Like why can't a non-8-bit Mega man game be good if done right? Same goes for 3D Sonic games, Unleashed's day stages were amazing. But regardless this was awesome man.

  • You SHOULD use teckworks music. It kicks ass. Go check it out if you haven't.

I think using Capcom's arrangements is unoriginal.

  • really horrible, please use the megaman 8 graphics

  • Hmm, shoulda used my music, bro. :P

  • Your effort in putting this together is amazing.

However I'm very fond of 8bit style.

  • @z32o i....sort orf agree on that. :P

Im not bein a dick or anything, just sayin.

  • Can't say I'm extremely fond of the artstyle but considering everything is hand drawn, very impressive.

May I ask what program you used for the sound effects?

  • the idea is good but the artwork is a little ugly and off the characters, game looks slower than the original and game sprites too small...

    at least music is nice

  • Megaman looks like a fetus in this version.

  • Excellent Video. Five out of Five!!!!!

  • Excelent work!

  • I love how Rush looks in this game. Much more of a realistic version of a robot dog.

  • Great job. I wish they had MegaMan in HD. Or at least flippable so I can choose standard or HD. Looks great!

  • I like the remixed music. Something looks off with Mega Man though...

  • If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

  • looks like one of these lame under web flash games that nobody give a shit to play.

  • Oh man, it's a nice work! You should be sponsored by Capcom to finish it. Put it on Steam and sell!

  • Hey, this is an awesome effort. They should have remade them like this.

  • It's not as bad as the comments suggest. I'd call it Mega Man junior or something like that though. The gameplay seem quite old- fashioned and maybe you would wanna change the "let's rock'n'roll" sample, but keep doing what you are doing! It'll get you somewhere some day.

  • This was pretty awful. Why bother going to the trouble of making something so obviously aesthetically ugly when compared to the original?

I mean, nice work, from a technical standpoint...but...

  • Good effort but it's ugly as heck, starting from the fact that in the opening screen Megaman has X's helmet for some inexplicable reason.

  • Hey!

...This is some spiffy work here! It'll never match the 8-bit series, but nothing can.

But what can ya do? It's really pretty regardless.

  • wtf everytime you kill an enemy they turn into diarrhea.

  • No thanks...i'll take the 8-bit Mega Man please.

  • This, is not what megaman should be.

i appreciate the efforts, but no. just no,

  • I thought this was fucking awesome.

It takes some balls to do it, but I think the redesign, albeit not my cup of tea, is pretty cool.

It's like as if the old American MM boxarts - MM9's included - had their own game.

  • 0:42 epic gay pose

  • I appreciate the hard work that you put into this, but the art work for the title screen/character select/weapon selection screens are rubbing me the wrong way and the sprites remind of the lifeless, generic 3D sprites that were on all the shareware CD covers back in the late 90's, ie, they don't seem to have any soul/heart/personality. As I'm sure others have mentioned, the sprites should be bigger so the play area doesn't look so huge. Also, please, no voice over work. That was really awkward.

  • @TheMadGeener im afraid im gonna have to agree. not to be mean but to be honest, its good and i understand alot of hard work went into it.. but you know this is also why there is a studio of 30 programmers collaborating on one title so for one person this is pretty good. but still looks akward.

  • It's too bad you aren't planning on finishing this due to the given circumstances, but it would be cool if there was a way around it all. When I first saw the title screen I wasn't exactly digging the art style (expecting it to basically be traced from the original I guess) but after seeing the way everything else looks in the game, I actually find it pretty interesting and innovative. The great amount of detail reminds me of the style they used for the "boxart" for MM9 and 10.

  • (continued, too many characters) The added detail really adds to the whole HD experience, and I especially love what you've done with the Metools. I partially agree with a comment made earlier that if you were to work on the character art any further that I'd prefer for it to be consistent with everything else, which is more detailed and realistic. Still definitely pretty impressive for a one-man project. Nice use of the arrange soundtrack and everything.

  • (continued again, sorry about this -_-) Also just want to add that the other little added touches (such as 'Rock and Roll') keep the game feeling fresh and new, which is great. I can tell you but a lot of effort and planning into the character select screen alone with those Robot Master cards, right down to their DRN numbers and the slightly tinted Dr. Light logos on each one. Even though it doesn't seem very likely at the moment, I would still love to see this project continued if possible.

  • And finally, nice work! =P

(thank you YouTube for making this a whole lot more annoying to type and read).

  • i prefer a hundred times megaman for the NES

  • Congratulations friend, excellent work

  • Eric dont worry about the haters, this is great!

  • While I won't deny that its a good looking remake/remix w/e it is, doing this defeats the entire purpose capcom wants to achieve with MM9.

    But still looks pretty cool

  • Came from the destructoid site and here's by 2-bits.

-The hand-drawn selection screen is out of place

-The sound effects (booms, rush) are a nice touch (even the annoyingly 80's/90's 1-up voice)

-The stage music is pretty good

-The electric guitar opening needs more echoing (ditto with power-up pick-ups... like how MegaMan X had)

-The spri-- character-graphics need to be blown up more. Boss rooms the size of Flame Mammoth's change the boss dynamic.

  • Great work guy!

    * Cheer*

  • A lot of critical comments are MYSTERIOUSLY disappearing. Everyone is expected to take (honest, reasonable) criticism in this industry, if you can't deal with random strangers thoughts on your works then you're going to have a really hard time in an actual studio environment. Your performance evaluation won't have a delete button for your detractors' commentary either.

  • I feel I need to respond to this.

I haven't thumbed down or deleted ANYONE's comments, good or bad. I read everything everyone says and take it all into consideration for future titles. EVERY TIME, with no exceptions.

I am not offended by people disliking my work, but I AM offended by people who make accusations....especially of the untrue variety. Of all the negative I've ever heard- Congratulations. You are the first to actively irritate me.

  • Here's the deal, the jump between SFII and SFII HD Remix was massive, the art supported the increase in resolution. What you have here are a ton of brand new hand drawn sprites, but they're all bubble shaded, or animated in strange ways. That's the feedback I was trying to give you. As others have pointed out by increasing the screen size but not increasing the size of the character sprites you have simply made the levels bigger without adding any detail to the actual sprites.

  • Did you check out the full resolution screen shots? I think maybe you'd understand a bit better if you'll take a look at them. They're linked in the youtube video info.

  • I did, I'm just giving you my feedback because I get the impression this is something you want to do for a living and I think you absolutely have the design and programming chops, I just think art shouldn't be a focus for you.

  • @NickisNightwing

The thing is he can't make the character sprites any bigger than they already are without it screwing with the level design even further. Mega Man was never meant to take up a large amount of screen space. Aside from Mega Man 7, he's always been tiny compared to the rest of the levels. The tiny size is what helps keeps the vertical platforming elements in the Mega Man games in check. A larger Mega Man will just give you a more cramped level design.

    And he did add detail.

  • @NickisNightwing:

I feel your pain, this happens to my comments all the time. The thing is, this happens to positive comments as well. I can guarantee you that it's a bug with youtube and I've talked to a lot of other people where it's happened as well.

  • @NickisNightwing That must be the Youtube glitch. But still, I hope you don´t expect every single inquire to be answered.

  • congratulations, you made jewel man look more attractive than splash woman. how the hell you managed that is beyond me

  • Not enjoying this art style :(

  • Eric Ruth. I was a huge fan of your 8-bit L4d, and I absolutely love what you've done with this. As a game artist I understand how much of a huge project this is! Great job man! I applaud.

  • The whole charme about MM9 is the 8bit style. This is just pointless.

  • The art is just awful.

The rest is awesome, you emulated the physics perfectly!

  • Jesus Christ, all you people are just a bunch of shitheads aren't you?

Who gives a fuck if the art isn't to your liking? God damn, you don't seem to understand that this whole thing was done by a SINGLE PERSON as a FAN PROJECT!

Even if you think his art's shit, you seriously have to give him credit for his dedication and programming talent.

  • wow, like everything else is detailed but megaman. At least make him look cool if you are gonna make an HD version. Art sucks too...

  • I wouldn't say your art is bad, but it's hardly befitting of the style of the characters. Regardless, though, nice work - I can't imagine how much effort was put in to something like this.

  • Scrap this artstyle. It looks horrible, off-model, and just...bad. Getting someone else to do it would probably be best.

    The stage looks great, though.

  • i praise the tremendous effort you probably put on this, but the art is totally unrelated to megaman, it really doesn't match. i'm talking about the artwork itself AND the animation. it's not technically "bad", but, just doesn't work.

  • Is there a reason you made Jewel Man look like a chick?

I mean granted, everything ELSE sucks too, but that's just baffling.

  • nice, but there are a couple problems:

Mega Man was inspired by anime, make the game have an anime like look. Mega Man looks a bit to small, even in full screen, rush is now realistic, some animations just don't look right. It just feels alien compared to playing Mega Man 9, I mean wheres the cheesiness or goofy atmosphere? If you removed all Mega Man relations it would be a great indie game though.

  • This looks terrible. The stages look nice, but the sprites look awful.

  • horrible, horrible art.

  • very nice i saw a few bugs in there but all and all very nice.

  • fugly

  • I loved how you used 9's Arranged music as the BM.

  • Eric,

This is an awesome demonstration of your dedication and what you will be able to accomplish in the future. If you moved away from the sort of Japanese-anime style that so many people get trapped into, you could really shine. Overall the levels look solid and the gameplay looks near-classic.

I honestly believe that if you created something similar with original characters, you could be the next Pixel. Way to go.

  • can u charge ur gun?

  • Good job!

  • I'm sorry, but I'm just not very fond of the way this looks. It all looks slower, and the art style doesn't seem to suit the game, ESPECIALLY at the RM select screen. I applaud the effort, but the finishing result just doesn't cut it for me. It looks like the game is better off in 8-bit, and this video seems to be a rather clear indication. I dunno, that's just me.

Lol, I just realized that it's like I'm being a reverse graphics whore.

  • Man just amazing, music are so fuckin awesome too.

But the Character seems a bit to "kidly" for me.

Make him a bit more badass!

And capcom should be interested about this,i would love to see it published.

  • olololol

  • Thank goodness the game doesn't look like this. The artwork for the robot masters is horrible. The rest isn't as bad but still looks very amateurish.

  • Comment removed

  • Well it's impressive an all that they guy did this but to me it doesn't look quite right. Everything looks a bit too small and weak now.

Still it's impressive non the less.

  • THANK YOU SIR! this is the way i wanted the game to be.

  • (8)

  • hahaha NO THANKS

  • character art needs some refinement

  • Can you do one of captain america and the avengers...? :( At least 5 minutes of gameplay...

  • I love it!

  • yeah rom hacks are kind of insulting if they claim to be improving the original game when they look like total amateur work, which is what has happened here, but i didnt want to sound like a total asshole in my first post.

  • Nothing less than stellar. Makes me wonder why we even see 1-star titles show up in the XBL Indie catalog and WiiWare It *is* possible to set standards for yourself and meet them, profit or no.

  • I love the art style in this. Capcom should have went with this art style or had an option rather than the total retro.

  • WoW ! This is amazing Eric. Don't let those hater discourage you. Keep up the good work and keep working hard. It will pay off you will see. Can't wait to see an original game from you.

  • wow you guys are douche bags, he did a good job, if you have something to say then you MUST be able to do better right?

  • ever heard of constructive criticism? being a brainless yes-man never helped anyone.

  • Good work Eric!

  • don't listen to all these crazies on here. This game looks awesome!

  • great, I think to make that you must put a great effort to this. Hope to see an original game from you soon.

  • Mega Man, looks to thin! lol

  • This project is an egregious waste of your time in its current form, because it fails as a graphical upgrade. These sprites clearly took a lot of effort, but I think your time is better spent designing gameplay than trying to circumvent the Mega Man art style in favor of some amateur bubble shading. I too am a horrible artist, but that doesn't mean you can't keep trying if that's where your passion is and not game development in general.

  • Ah hahahahahaa - your avatar kind of looks like me. I looked up your ScrewAttack vids though and finally I can see the difference

  • well its pretty impressive that you strung together the parts to make a megaman game but you really need to either take drawing lessons or get someone else to do your art. you really shouldnt be using capcom's property though, they could shut you down so easy if they wanted to, you have enough talent to make your own game, plus you wouldnt be insulting MM9 by trying to put HD graphics in a game who's entire point was to be an old school megman game.

  • Ironic that the video isn't available in HD...

  • i have to say this looks awesome by the way.

  • haha @ galaxy man pose.

  • cool!

  • nice gameplay.

  • this really looks awesome

  • Nice work man, looks like you put much effort in this, good luck further..

  • yo this is aweseome ;)

  • Oh! and how on earth did Capcom discover your project? Do they have watchdogs on the internet 24/7 performing "seek & destroy" on every fan project like this in existence?

I hope they don't C&D you. Seems a lot of effort went into it already.

  • A friend of a friend works at Capcom. Apparently Capcom has their eye on me...whether that be good or bad.

  • Game Maker is NOTORIOUS for hogging RAM like crazy and having atrocious load times. Just look at Mushroom Kingdom Fusion which takes about 5 to 10 minutes to load and uses over 1GB of RAM.

This make have been fixed in a newer version but I'm not 100% sure.

It's unfortunate considering how powerful the tool really is but I guess it's difficult to optimize in an "all purpose" environment. Anyhow, I do hope a demo of this does get produced. Sounds pretty neat.

  • Why?

  • he's talking about his mother...

  • Wow. I REALLY wish this could be finished.
