When we lived in Belize we were at a quarry and noticed part of the wall was dark. We walked over and there were army ants crawling down the wall, heading our way,but unlike the thick single line of them in this vid, there were dozens of single file lines of them, zigzagging across one another forming walled in areas, trapping bugs and other life making it impossible to escape,good tactic. Ahead of the swarm was a whole line of spiders running for their lives, literally! We got out of there!

those soldier ants protecting ants on the outside of the path are HUGE, have HUGE fuckin heads and HUGES pincers measuring about a cm added together, they stick BOTH under your skin and pinch you and they hurt like motherfuckers, I've developed a phobia for them after living in Cameroon for a few years. On the plus side they can use them to heal up wounds like stitches out in the bush.

by the way, the exact name of these species is Driver Ants, the soldiers of the driver ants are 3 times as big which is what bit you, look them up wikipedia they're probably the most dangerous ants around.

I once stepped on the entrance to a fire ant nest under the grass in central texas on accedent, and ended up standing there 20-30 seconds while throwing some stuff in a dumpster. I had no idea 300 ants climbed up to my knee until they all decided to bite at the same time (I was ware shorts). That was an interestingly painful feeling I hope to never have again... hint: stomp hard several times.

I used to play with red ants when I was a kid, I think the black ants took them over cuz I haven't seen a red ant in my home town in 20 years, kinda weird how the black (argentinian?) took them over.
