Hey Buddy,I have a 71 camaro 3 speed auto,,about 6months ago when i stepped on accelerator from a stands still my car started hopping, or shuttering I swear it felt like rear end was gonna fall out,,it has progressively gotten worse but I think it trans related, only ,,at 25 -90mph it seems fine please give me an idea what it could be,ive had this car 18 years motor is 6months fresh, thanx Bud.
my friend was certified by gm to rebuild there tranny's and he taught me how to do it i can rebuild a 350 or 400 in my sleep. i love gm's TH tyranny's if you build em right you can throw tons of power at em.
Watching this was a waste of time. Not informative at all. Could've been an explanation as to what you were donig as you were doing it, and at least naming the parts to familiarize potentional builders. If a clue of how the whole video is, I sure wouldn't waste the money. And 2 weeks for shipping a CD??? Get Real !!!
mcluvin45 man u a stupid muthafuka. wats wrong with a person trying to make money.thats how u pay your bills stupid muthafucka. thats what youtube is for to broadcast yourself. at least hes doin sumthing constructive with his time unlike you. wastin your time cricizing people on the internet. and transmission work is not a scam its a skill.
Thats a steal, but you have to ask if they are really going to rebuild it because parts alone can reach about 550 dollars if it needs a pump or a drum.
I got mine done for 364 even- THM350, full rebuild (as they said, and I asked), with a new torque converter... I removed it and brought it in myself. I know it's not some high performance build, but it gets the job done.
@dnl5649 $60 gets you what, frictions & gaskets? Considering any TH350 is now at least a 20+ year old transmission, a master rebuild kit including premium frictions, steels, seals, gaskets, & modulator is in order. Not to mention the valve body probably has issues, the front pump is probably worn out, the torque converter is a core, & there may be some broken/crispy hard parts inside the trans. $500 bucks is a very reasonable cost if you want the rebuilt transmission to last more than 20K miles.
@MrSirosis1 thtas funny, u saw the same vid as me lol!
my dad rebuild a burned out trans in his 72 olds 442 cutlass supreme 455 cubes that pushed out 550 horsepower, the trans lasted 210,000 miles before it started slipping. with a 30 $ rebuild kit. that was in 1987
@dnl5649 Yeah, I caught up to you! Your dad my have gotten away with it, but think about how much wear happens in the hard parts and valve body of a transmission. The frictions in a transmission usually rarely wear out on their own. Their death is usually happens when somethings wrong with the valve body, or a broken hard part. Now also keep in mind, rebuilding a transmission for a customer with a warrenty. Do you really want to just throw a set of frictions in, and hope thats all it needed?
@dnl5649 Not to mention that you did all that work, and your now going to put a worn out converter, with fragments of what ever in it back on? A kit may have cost 30 bucks in '87, but look around now. Any decent kit worth installing is well over 100 bucks. Then figure in a new torque converter, new pump parts, and anything the valve body may need.
@MrSirosis1 the rebuild kit didnt include a converter. that was bought seperate.
i have rebuild at least 3 transmissions and have never had one fail. i only replaced all of the bushings and bands/ friction pads. the one in the lincoln versallias i rebuild just hit 300,000 miles on my transmisison and is giving no trouble at all. with a 65$ rebuild kit from rockauto autoparts.
@dnl5649 Your anecdotal evidence is very convincing. But I have to say, so what? You got lucky. Again, join us in the real world, where we repair cars for customers rather than our selfs. See how many transmissions you can "rebuild" (especially a modern one with tighter tolerances) by slapping in a set of frictions and seals before one comes back to bite you in the ass. Ignoring the fact that most friction failures occur from problems other than the frictions on their own won't get you too far.
@MrSirosis1 thats true, but i only work on older cars, engines, and transmissions. and i dont and have never attempted to work on a transmission thats electronically controlled. if the trans were to have a good working valve body, a good oil pump and didnt have anything ground up a simple gasket and friction pad set would mostlikely be all you would need. id replace the torque converter anyway
@dnl5649 Yeah, but thats the thing about old transmissions. You may have what seams to be a valve body in good working order, but how many times in the life of that valve body have those springs been flexed? Springs only have so many cycles before they become weak or break. A spring may look just fine when you have the valve body on the bench, and then it breaks next week. Same goes for the plungers/pistons in the valve body. Did you measure the tolerances to check for excessive wear?
@dnl5649 Also doing all that work with an old pump is foolish. Again same logic. How long are the veins in an old pump going to be good for before one breaks, or it looses adequate oil pressure and wipes out your new frictions? In many cases there are cheap upgrades that either the factory made or the aftermarket made to address known issues, its a good time to throw those in. It really comes down to taking risks to save a buck. I personally only want to do one out/in with a tranny.
ive rebuilt atleast 100 of thes i got so good i could do a complete rebuild in under 1 hr and it would be perfect lash tolerances pre soaked clutches new or rebuilt converter and sometimes paint
THEY RE ONLY A 3 SPEeD but they are short and strong transmision for what they are
350's are rather easy to rebuild, with alittle bit of research and alot of attention to detail you could prolly do it. 350's and 700's are rather easy the 4l60E is alittle tougher, not much tho.
This is a great start but is there more... it gets to the front pump then stops... I have always wanted to see if I could rebuild one myself.... guess I will get a manual and find out! Maybe I will make the complete video!
