Is there anything in all opera that compares to this? The ever-increasing sense of suffocation and doom, the deadly seriousness that the jokes are over now and the time to pay has come, the realization there is no way out...and accomplished through music that isn't blaring and mostly moves at a moderate pace instead of what you would usually expect.
"Don Juan l'endurcissement au péché traîne une mort funeste... et les grâces du Ciel que l'on renvoie ouvrent un chemin à sa foudre...." Molière -Don Juan-
Through my influence, I saw to it that Don Giovanni was played only five times in Vienna. But in secret, I went to every one of those five. Worshipping sounds I alone seemed to hear. As I stood there understanding how that bitter old man was still possessing his poor son even from beyond the grave
Undoubtedly the best score in all of Don Giovanni (imo), and possibly the best piece used in the film Amadeus....though it's impossible to say for sure, since every score is simply mind-blowing. I could listen to this all day and never get tired of it.
não acho esta a melhor cena do movie, prefiro aquela em que sua mulher está retornando e ele (Mozart) está com Salliere compondo uma música Melhor filme de minha vida, Retirando Jesus de Nazaré de Franco Zefirelle
Unfortunately, this is not taken from a full length recording of Don Giovanni. As with the Figaro as heard in Amadeus, this was sung/performed only for the soundtrack to the movie. It frustrates me terribly that this is not a full length album of Don Giovanni, Marriner has recorded both Don Giovanni & Figaro but it's with different singers and it's not the version heard in Amadeus. They are very good recordings because Marriner was a gifted Mozartian conductor.
i've seen don giovanna 6 times now...... love the storyline.and of course the music cannot be bettered..there isa moral in his dark tale for all of humanity
It's incredible how the first five seconds establish the tone of the entire piece so perfectly. You hear those first few notes and you think "I'm about to hear some shit-your-pants, kick-ass, horror music.
quanta potenza, quanta rabbia e quanta dolcezza al tempo stesso.....solo Mozart sa unire tutto questo.....sei il più grande Amadeus, non smetto mai di ringraziarti per aver dinato all' umanità tutto questo
I have to perform a part of Don Giovanni along with others from my school and other schools too on Monday. The bit when Don Giovanni gets dragged to hell, I'm singing the second to top soprano, with 4 others, but in english. It still sounds good!
And soon we get to see a reherse of it soon! I love Mozart.
@oliviarocker123 i did it yesterday, it went so well! i had a small part where i had to sing with 4 others out of the whole choir, and everyone singing together, it sounded fab. we had to dance too, i had to pretend to kiss a guy who was really tall! there was 4 guys from my school who did the performance too, and they all pretended to be Don Giovanni. 1 wore a suit, another wore a hoddie, someone else wore a white shirt, and the guy i worked with had a checkered shirt and jeans <3

The final scream is pure genius. It really sounds like a soul sinking into Hell's Maw.
Simply chilling.
