  • i love this song so much!!! One of my favourites!!! I may be old-fashioned but this is one awesome song!!!

  • For decades I just know it's a song called Looker, but never looked deep into it. Recently, I've started loving it very much.

  • You should be physically abused yourself if you do not like this song.

  • Reject the victim mentality - especially if you're really a victim. Throw it off.

Few things are more destructive than the victim mentality. It kills. It led my sister to the end of a rope.

For the few of you who understand, don't forget what I've said here.

  • Great performance, but the snare sounds terrible, no depth or tone.

  • Beautiful...

  • she didn't even finish the intro and i was already choking :(

  • STARSCREAM SPEAKING

I've seen you before? Try performing IN Indonesia madam. That's the greatest range utmost limit of my tracker missiles

  • a cozy feeling

  • Wow, she's amazing. No playback! Respect!

  • great song!

  • que buena canción!!!

  • I completely adore everything about the beautiful and incredibly talented person who is Suzanne Vega. Her music has meant so much to my life over the years, and especially during really difficult times.

  • boring

  • I love her

  • Since I am father (my daughter is now 11 month) I am even more sensitive of 'not fair' things in the world as I was anyway. And one thing is child abuse AND child neglect. Sometimes I have really bad thoughts when I playing with my daughter thinking on other childs which have at the same time psychical and pyhiscal pain. What can a baby or a child for the bad (unfulfilled, frustrated) living of adults. And even more I am thinking on all that babys and childs which died because of that. (cont.)

If you are believing in god then you can think/hope that they will have justice and a good time after. But if you are not believing how can you stand the fact, that they have never had anything good in their short life? Am not a really strong believer and the last question giving me hard times.

  • Tolle Stimme, nachdenklich stimmender Text...

  • She is on of the best Songwriters. I always think at Virginia Woolf - don't know why --- Great Performance!!!

  • תענוג כתמיד

  • I'm in love

  • A wonderful song!

  • Super espectacular

  • Love it, love it....just don't ask me why is that?! I simpley love it.

  • i'm not a massive fan of her music but i just love her voice, so unique

  • espectacularrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • Nice!!!

  • This is, what music is about - sending a message through art. Suzanne Vega ist just awesome.

  • Love this song

  • she sound like leigh nash

  • Great!

  • This live version is even better than the single!

  • @WatchTubeSnippers

cause the single was recorded 1986 and the acoustic of this video is amazing

  • This Has To Be The Best Version Around Of This AWESOME SONG! Such A Big Message It Carries With It, A Message To Anyone In This Position And A Message To Outsiders To Help Them

  • excellent bassist

  • @monnofranco I'm not surprised about you hating this song. Cause I know you are a pedophile (or someone who's worse than that) :)

  • It sounds really good! Thanks!

  • The sound od guitar is greate in this performance

  • monnofranco - real men respect the weaker sex and protect them - you are a real asshole

  • @Jermccluskey

    Weaker sex, protect?

Sounds a little chauvinistic to be honest.

  • Any 1st hand experience Penny, ever been hit, kicked, tripped or had someone twice your strength try & strangle you? I thought not; not arguing or hitting back kep't me alive for years (I was young & trusting a long time ago & made statements @ situations of which I knew nothing about.)

  • No but it would be very possible considering im a very skinny guy(why cant anyone protect me?)

Well If I wanted to get rid of someone twice my strength I could probably try to decieve him then drug him/hit him when his back is turned, tie him up and nail him to something in the wilderness and leave him there! But you have to be pretty gutsy/insane to do that!

It just pisses me off when people expects you to do that because your that and whatnot.

  • Comment removed

  • @Jermccluskey Women are not the weaker sex, and they do not need men's protection. I deline yours. Protection is just another manifestation of oppression: an abusive husband beats his wife while claims to be protecting her; any man will claim he is protecting a woman so that he can control her life. "Real" men see women as human beings, not people who are helpless and need their protection.

  • wow

  • The voice of a primitive man...

  • Did you even understand what this song is about? And if you don't like it, don't here it.. that's it

  • @Anubis2705, learn how to spell, you fucking retard.

  • @meccaturbo

I'll do, if you can speak and write German as good as I can speak and write English.

Mach ich, wenn du so gut Deutsch sprichst und schreibst wie ich Englisch!

  • @monnofranco Jermccluskey is correct; you are an asshole. Stick with that skill, though, as you excel @ it. You'd probably bring home the gold if they ever add 'asshole' into an olympic category. I'd love to see you in the general prison pop bending over for bubba.

  • Nice performance.

I'm a bit of a guitar nut, and I really like the Taylor acoustic that Suzanne is playing. Can anyone tell me what type the other electric guitar is?

WRT to live performances and other people's comments: performers don't wish to play exact covers, so as to express their musical prowess. Advice for others: accept the differences as depth and scope of the performer, and enjoy it for what it is!

  • Great live performance. Flawless singing. two thumbs up

  • I've always loved this song - because of the melody. I have never given any thought to what the song is about until now. I've gotta say the melody and lyrics do not fit together at all. The melody is happy, the lyrics is sad.

  • It's all part of the irony.

  • innamorato di questa canzone e di questa donna

  • I love it. And her. ; )

  • This song was said to be about 'child abuse' ...

I kind of saw the song to be about 'domestic violence' ...

But , which ever ... it surely addresses a serious issue. - It is sad tto know that many children/people have to live in unbearable personal circumstances.

There are so many things to 'battle out ' in every day life. Where do you turn for reassurance and love and peace if your own 'Home' is nothing but another 'battle-field' ... ?

  • You are so right in everything you pointed out. The abuse I suffered was 'verbal abuse' by my mother. Nothing I ever did was right. She knocked me down throughout my life, never apologizing for the hurtful things she called me. She only would say I was overly sensitive. She recently passed away and now she is finally at peace and so am I. She can no longer ridicule and degrade me anymore. The scars I have from her verbal abuse hopefully will heal one day.

  • @hollylieberman Forgive her and you'll find peace!

  • @hollylieberman yes i will ! you might not change everything in the future but oneday as you grow older and matured ! its ur turn to changed the tide in diff. way by showing to ur sibling how much you care and love them! ur mom has done it in a very unorganized way but you ! you can make a good diff.show more love

  • @hollylieberman me!i also receive a verbal and physical abuse but i manage to forgive my dad! i talk to him and he accepted his mistake and ask for forgiveness! everything become possible when i started to pray and believe that im diff. i believe that i can change the world in my own little good way! by doing what is right

  • @imneil1 good for you. It is about how you respond to being abused. Not in an angry way but a forgiving way to break the chain of abuse!

  • @hollylieberman keep strong, I am sorry you had to live through that. My childhood was beautiful. Its just not fair for those like yourself who suffered because your parent had their own issues and took it out on you, its just too sad. God Bless you and your family!

  • @hollylieberman Grow a pair for fucks sakes.

  • @hollylieberman i wish you happiness for the rest of your life regards kev

  • Abuse comes in all forms and when directed at a child can permanently damage that person's life. I make sure I always give my children encouragement and praise, something my mother refused to give me. All parents should cherish their children and always look for the good things they do and be thankful they are loved by them.

  • @hollylieberman

I completely agree. Life is so precious.

  • Comment removed

  • @hollylieberman And what does that have to do with anything in this awsome song? Take your personal problems to a shrink you fucking weirdo. You aint getting any love or compasion in youtube comments. No one fucking cares if you got raped or if your mother kicked your ass.

  • @Anathor1 You are an idiot, and I think a lot of people do care about people who were abused, most who like this song do I believe.

  • @faithnikkiian Ya that doesnt mean you have to come and post the story of your life on a youtube coment, cuz believe this, no one gives a fuck.

  • @Anathor1 I give a fuck, and so do many others. And a song like this, which is about speaking out against abuse, is a catalyst for people to speak out.

  • Comment removed

  • @Anathor1 I feel sad for you really to be thinking like that ya heart must be hard or hurting either way isnt good people do care and nomatter who ya are or where ya from there are allways others doing it worse so pull up being such an ass

  • Comment removed

  • @hollylieberman I agree with you. I couldn't have put it better myself. Have you ever read "Letter to his father" by Franz Kafka? I have a daughter, she is the love of my life and this books always gave me many lessons of what parents should never do. You can find it online.

  • FAB !!!!

  • the "good stuff"

  • showw!!

  • I cant stop playing this song.

  • i remember this song 86' 87' around there

  • no hay voz mas dulce....

  • great voice for being live. doesn't sound like crapola.

  • That has to be one of the worst drummers evver. The drums on the original AAHHHH i give up but that drummer is useless!!!

  • Well.

Fire me I would like to her the keybord that is on the Studio record, but it is a nice version.

  • simple the best Suzanne amooo questa canzone

  • intelligent lyrics about family abuse.

no one would doubt the importance of the song in music history, especially for contemporary singer/songwriter genre, it's a must-listen classic for all CSS lovers.

  • where is luka come from...?

  • Does it really matter? XD

  • exactly. She is the "every girl, poster girl for domestic violence".

  • Suzanne Vega said Luka was the actual name of a boy whom she only casually knew in New York City. However, she only took his name for the song, and the abuse part was probably fictional. It was her disclaimer in case she ever saw the kid whose life she ruined. :) Sort of like whomever had the misfortune of having the phone number, 867-5309 in the 80s. :)

  • my god! how i've loved this song and Suzanne Vega is still very beautiful!
