Thanks. Yes I know that Asterisk can greatly expand the capabilities of an 802.11 (WiFi) phone, but it appears that your Asterisk usage requires your home computer to be turned on 24/7, and that's not what I want.
Excellent tutorial. I hardly knew a thing about Asterisk before this. But doesn't being tied to a computer take away some of the advantage of having a WiFi phone?
no, by WiFi you mean 802.11 I hope, it works like this, when I'm anywhere where there is a wifi signal I can connect to my home asterisk box and place calls from there. I also use Asterisk to spoof my Caller ID number so the person being called see my cell number. When I'm not in wifi I use cellular. doing this I can pay for a 400 minute plan from at&t but use about 1500 total min a month, and AT&T doesn't see a penny of those extra minutes.
do you have to have a service plan on the phone before you do that right or you can do it without a service plan any help thanks ?
